    Yeah,no problems.:)

I wiped down the tank with some alcohol wipes 1st,before doing any work.

The Tech Spec tank gripper pads have a resuable sticky pack padding,so you can peel em off and move them around to suit your legs and riding position.
The carbon tank sliders were put on with Wruth clear silicone that came with the kit,bonded/cured on to the tank perfectly.:)

Cheers mate! Got them off of ebay.

They fit perfect and seem like decent enough quality. Shipping was only about two weeks, worth the price in my opinion.

I Fitted a new D.I.D chain and front + Rear sprockets today. After 12500 km the OEM chain was pretty much done. Quite a few NC owners have complained about the cheap quality on the OEM chain that Honda supplied. I suppose thats what happens with a budget bike.

I never removed a rear wheel before so removing that and the chain was a big achievement for me. I had bought a chain fitting tool from louis.de last year and finally put it to good use. Along with a youtube video of a D.I.D technician fitting a chain off I went. It was all pretty straight forward. It was more or less a 2 man job to fit the rear wheel back on whilst the boss fed the axel bolt through. I only had a small spanner to tighten the chain tool so ill invest in a larger one for this task in future, something with more leverage.

The chain comes with a grease coating on it so I didnt add anything. I then used the laser tool to align the chain. As with some bikes the alignment markers that Honda use are not perfect. And lastly I gave the bike a good clean and a coating of acf 50. I spent about 6 hrs doing that today but now that its done once im sure its more of a 1.5 hr job maybe.

    Hi Richard,

Just wondering what sort of Laser tool you used to adjust it? I hate doing it by eye and you dont really get more precise than a laser so it could be a worth investment!

    Ayrtonf7, I got it here https://m.louis.de/artikel/profi-laser-cat-kettenfluchttester/10003097?list=174939183&filter_article_number=10003097

Maybe it can be sourced closer to home?
Once the laser stays aligned on the chain from rear to front sprocket it is aligned correctly. Great little tool.

Very ingenious little yoke, no use to me though with a single sided swingarm ;)

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

Did you find much benefit apart from the gadget aspect?
Never used one and only reason I would be sceptical is because you can be guaranteed most shops you would ever leave your bike into wouldnt bother using anything bar the swingarm marks to align the chain.

Its not cheap considering you would use it very infrequently

I believe in real life experiences. The is a UK and USA nc forum and the general consensus is the markers that honda supply are not 100% accurate. For example, when I aligned the chain using the markers on the swing arm the laser would start on the left side of the chain link but as I moved the laser up the chain it would end up in the middle of the chain at the front sprocket. That's probably only a 3mm error but surely that's enough to cause a more rapid chain and sprocket wear.

As for how often I would use the laser tool... at least once every 2 weeks.

Fair enough, I didnt realise the Honda's were known for being that bad.
I wouldnt even look at mine for 3 months after changing the sprockets/chain and I take pretty good care of my bike.
wouldn't be looking for anything except catastrophic damage every 2 weeks and oiling chain. Once its aligned and torqued I would take the approach its not moving, well not in 2 weeks.#

Id use it once every time I changed the chain so say every 10,000 kmh and that would be it.
    Looks handy though.

    What bike is it?

NC750X Jeebus....I hope I get more than 10,000km out of the chain. I do just under 600km a week. I suppose in a way I just want to get major miles out of this bike and with very few problems. For example the recommended oil change is every 8000 mile but Ill do it every 5 or 6k.

I would be of the same mindset as you are changing the oil.

^^^ Talk of chains ~ slightly off topic but after four years on a BMW and recently changing to a Vstrom its only now that I'm appreciating how convenient a shaft drive is.

    I miss the shaft.

Same here, even the cleanliness of the shaft alone is worth it. Here's a song about shaft drive

Did a test fit of the Kriega US30 and US10s on each side.
Stuck the painted front mudguard back on,it looks better than the carbon one.
A roll of rubber gripmate from Dealz for 1 euro 49 cents protects the paintwork too.:)

Also dropped the bike over to Brian at Motorcycle Valeting for a full on deep clean and ACF50 treatment.:)

When did you stick the carbon tank stuff on?
I think its way ott man tbh, looked better before. Still looks unreal though

Put the carbon tank sliders and the Tech Spec pads on last week.

Supposedly they will protect the tank from being scraped to bits if I have an off.
Heres hoping I never find out.:pac:

Just back from collecting the bike off Brian. He worked till 10pm tonight to get the R1 ready for me.:)

This man is a legend at what he does, talk about a deep clean, fook me the bike is unreal, like it just came off the production line, its that clean and shiney.

Thanks Brian, will be sending the 996 over to you for the same treatment.:D
