  • My dad told me a story before about a friend of his who was spending a small fortune on dry cleaning each week. He used to drop off his 5 shirts for the week on a Friday evening and collect them on Monday morning before work. Said he was grumbling massively about it, but needed it as he was basically a pleb at house stuff. He was also pretty miserly and hated having to do this.

He found out that the charity shop next door to the dry cleaners had a deal with them, that any clothes donations that came in during the week would get washed and ironed by the dry cleaners en masse at the weekend and returned for store-opening on a Monday.

Dad's friend notices that they sell shirts for 50p each. Does a bit of thinking and comes up with this plan.

He would 'donate' 5 shirts each Friday to the charity shop, they would get them cleaned and pressed by the dry cleaners, and then have them back on sale each Monday first thing. He would be the first to the shop and buy all 5 for £2.50, saving him a fair old chunk of money each week.

Dad said that one week he got knocked out by the flu, and couldn't drag himself out of bed for on Monday. When he managed to get to the shop on Tuesday morning still feeling rough, he found (obviously) that they had already sold each of his >£50 shirts for 50p to other people the day before.

tl;dr, miser gets miserly, gets caught out.

Haven't been there in a while to be honest. Bloomin Deliveroo has me spoiled these days though.

"A Cork man was rushed to hospital after a rat bit him on the backside while he sat on the toilet."

    Some shock I'd say!

"There was a redback on the toilet seat, when I was there last night. I didnt see him in the dark, but boy I felt his bite"

A bit of an australian song there to make our kiwi friends homesick

I dunno. I actually don't know what to make it. A lot of sources close to dana White saying he's livid. It just smells funny. Why troll fans like that? Why is Kavanagh getting in on it?

Unusual way to announce it too, for him. I'd have thought he'd have had a press conference, a parade, a fly by from the Air Force etc. etc.

There's an article on the Irish Times saying they believe it to be real and an official announcement is imminent but then the rest of the article lists all the reasons why it's probably not.

If it's not true making jokes about retirement at this time given the events that happened a week ago in that sport seems pretty crass and of very poor taste.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

    I think it's true, but I don't necessarily believe it's permanent

Nate Diaz also says he's retiring by the way!

Wetting themselves with fear. They'll have nothing to write about if he retires.

All the talk now is that he's gotten in trouble for not promoting the Diaz rematch. So either this is all part of him doing exactly that or it's him throwing a bit of tantrum that they took the fight from him. It'll all be sorted in a few days and we'll all be thankful of getting even more McGregor news in our news feeds, media sources, discussion forums etc etc.

I've no interest in MMA and don't really begrudge the guy, but this constant attention seeking and reporting is just getting really old now. Wish someone would just create a filter to allow people to block anything and everything McGregor related from our internet and SM browsers.

I'm with you molloyjh. Sick of hearing and reading about him

It's all like a soap opera. Too much nonsense around the fights, too much pantomime rubbish.

I enjoy the sport a lot, but I don't like him or the media circus that surrounds him. I'm lucky enough not to live in Ireland so it can be avoided. So I'm hoping this is the end of it all but I know it won't be. At least now we'll get through UFC 197-200 without that annoyance which is great news.

From the 1 or 2 bits I've read about this, it sounds like he's throwing a strop because he's not getting his way

And getting his name and the sport in the press while he's doing it. Call me cynical but......

I preferred the story line where Vince McMahon pretended to be a "greater power" to trick Stone Cold Steve Austin into doing his bidding.
