No it's not. The proposed runway is on the opposite side of the airfield. It would mean massive refurbishment of the existing tarmac that's there and a lot of the taxiways would need to be made bigger to accommodate the larger aircraft!

New taxiways would have to be built to the already existing terminals. That's in the plan.
Its only 1.3k away so not that far.
So no need for new gates, security etc as poster said.

Yes, with enough feathers stuck to your arse , you most certainly will take off

Nah, tail-feathers are mostly used for in-flight stability and braking when landing. He needs to stick them in his armpits.

The present runway can accommodate the A380.

    In Dublin County North thread.

Apparently, the project includes a new control tower, three times the height of the present one. That'll be quite a significant landmark in the surrounding area:

Here's a picture of what it will look like, next to the current one.

Shows a nice new control tower, I don't know if that is included in the 320 million.

A committee to oppose it is probably in the planning as we speak !

    It's not.

Dublin Airport will need a new 87m high air traffic control tower along with its second runway, bringing the cost of developments there to a possible €370 million.
Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) confirmed on Thursday that it is going ahead with its plans for a new 3,110m runway, parallel to its existing one, at a cost of €320 million.

This runway has been planned for years. It's needed and will be a key part of our transport infrastructure. So let's just get on with it and build it!

The great thing is, they can't do anything about it. The current runway is near capacity. Airport numbers booming, their attempts will be a futile waste of time ...

If it already has planning permission then isn't it too late anyway?

Yes it is too late. But even if they were to let it lapse and reapply again. The residents won't stop it, they may get some small concessions at a push, but it's going ahead one way or another ...

and still Dublin Airport remains without a rail connection...

Maybe they will build a Tractor Park for the politicians and civil servants who run Dublin to get back home to Mayo?
