Warning to women and men - both victims and potential perpetrators.

I am 38. I've heard about date rape drugs. I've maintained the stance that I must have had my drink spiked in my ill-spent youth. In reality, I had just drank shorts on top of pints.

Last night however, I was drugged. I was drugged and my partner was drugged.

At about 11.30, we were doing the highland swing together (or some version of what you do 6 pints in). Grand job. Lovely hurling.

We had been rotating going out for cigarettes, to guard the well-filled wallets etc. as you do. But, when we both took to the dancefloor, our drinks were unguarded.

Anyway, about 2 minutes later, partner drinking guinness, buckled. (Cynic that I am, I was thinking the ****er is after downing whiskys.) Anyway - other man in bar agrees to escort him the 100 feet to the flat. I go in, down last of my drink and follow.

Now - to return to the flat is maybe 40 feet, turn the corner, 20 feet, turn the corner and 40 feet.

    However.............

Somewhere on the last 40 feet, whatever drugged me hit me. I could see the man and my partner just turning in, but I didn't know what was happening so didn't call out (had no idea that I might need to!).

I vividly remember trying to claw with my nails onto the wall. That didn't work, my legs didn't work and I was on the pavement. I tried to crawl, my arms didn't have any strength, my legs I could not feel. I tried to find my phone in handbag, my arms stopped moving.

Apparently, I lay for 2 hours in the pouring rain in London, in a gutter. It seems to me like 10 minutes, but I must have passed out, so I don't even remember the cold.

I remember shouting Help help help and a man with brown skin coming and me saying ambulance. He vanished after that and I kept saying 'please come back'. Probably fell unconcsious again, but my lovely brown-skinned stranger obviously called an ambulance.

Ambulance came and when I was brought to hospital my temperature was 31 degrees. I remember them talking about it reaching 33 degrees and then some sort of round of applause when I reached 36.4.

    SO

To men and women. Trust NAE ****er.

To potential perpetrators? 15 minutes longer, I'd have been dead and you'd be looking at a sentence for murder.

I'm glad you're ok. Have no idea why people would be so sick as to do that to another person

Glad to hear you and other half are fine. Remember people "NEVER" "NEVER" leave your drinks untended. Finish it up before dancing or going for a bio.

Did you save your piss or get a blood test to see what you were poisoned with

Did you lodge a report with the police? Have you or they been in to look at the pub's CCTV?

If it's any consolation, I had it out with the doctor in charge of me. They have no jurisdiction to test for drugs. Drugs tests come from forensics apparently.

Where your wallets and phones missing?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 794 ✭✭✭TheHillOfDoom

No - I haven't lodged a report with the police. That is partly why I had the argument with the doctor. Anyway, protocl schmotocol, they don't test for drugs. He advised reporting it as if the police receive several reports of deaths or whatever results! in the same venue, then they'll investigate. Yes. I'm going to pointlessly do that. No.

Nothing was missing at all. I was recovered with my handbag half full of water. I genuinely don't think they knew how quick these drugs would work or something. Anyway. I'm still alive.

Strange...anyway good to hear you survived, it's a scarey experience losing your functions like that.

so maybe if you do report it, then they might pay more heed to the next one, or the last one, but if you don't, then nothing will happen.
it's the weekend in london, the hospital will deal with plenty of people who are hammered, all with similar symptoms as yourself. that's why they won't test you for anything.
    you should've reported it.

It was the most terrifying experience of my life and I'd be prone to losing the run of myself with drink. Anyway, cat of nine lives, I'm alive to tell the tale. I want to see the ****ers who almost killed me suffer though.

    Yes. No.

I'm glad you survived but I have to play devils advocate, you really need to be more aware of you're surroundings. There is scum everywhere. They are like rats, you very rarely see them but you are never too far from them

A thread in AH will do the trick so!

The police may do nothing if you report it, they will definitely do nothing now.
If people started to report all these incidents rather than being content to tell their stories online, it might be a safer place out there.

I would be reporting nonsense. No evidence whatsoever.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 277 ✭✭JackieBauer

Maybe there was CCTV in the pub, OP. It's London after all. Report it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,373 ✭✭✭✭foggy_lad

OP had you and OH eaten at any restaurants before your episode in the nightclub?

Is it possible that ye were poisoned by some food eaten a few days prior to the night out? some bouts of food poisoning can be very debilitating and leave the person feeling like they have been doped. Any hot flushes or cold sweats or cramps or dose of the trots after or before the night out?

Look. I have no motive here than to warn you that the big bad bastard wolf still exists (even at 38). Take from it what you will. Couples be wary. All of you be wary. Whoever spikes your drink could inadvertently cause your death. Ain't noboby got time for that!

How do you know there is no evidence? There could be CCTV in the pub, you have a timeline.

It's nonsense not reporting it. I would go as far as saying it's extremely selfish and foolish not to report it.

What of your partner and the bloke thst brought him home?
Anyway - other man in bar agrees to escort him the 100 feet to the flat. I go in, down last of my drink and follow.

Was this guy someone you know? We're you not concerned about your partner to go back with him?

Ask about for CCTV coverage of your table for possible evidence of someone tampering your drinks ...

There is no CCTV in the pub. We've already checked.

What does you partner remember about the night?

    7 pints will do that

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 794 ✭✭✭TheHillOfDoom

The only reason that I can see (I may have not thought of anything else for 20 hours) for us being targetted would be a warning to get away or something. Otherwise, I can't see how both of us were targetted. In any case - warning well received!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,492 ✭✭✭stoplooklisten

What sort of a warning to get away? Not a very good one if it leaves you lying in the road for 2 hours!

why wouldn't you file a police report.? You went to the hospital, they'll have done blood tests, no?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 794 ✭✭✭TheHillOfDoom

As I said to the doctor, I've often had more for breakfast. In the heel of the hunt he genuinely knew that I had been drugged (regaling him about the time I stood up on the surfboard after 40 pints o' stout helped in that regard).

In your OP you state that 15 mins longer and you could have been dead. You nearly died and you don't see fit in informing the authorities? If you don't, you're not doing everything you can to ensure that someone else isn't the victim.

You later talk of the "big bad bastard wolf" drugging people, non reporting of these incidents just adds to the notion that many people just cry wolf when it comes to being drugged.
