Would you die for Ireland?

Imagine the Queen, in a very hypothetical situation, turned around and said: 'Here, lads, go over to Ireland nick those other 26 things back, would you?'

What would you do? Would you kiss your wives, girlfriends and children goodbye and risk your life for this country? Not trying to stoke any fires here I'm genuinely interested in knowing how many people would be willing to die in order to save the country.

Personally, I wouldn't. I'm not very patriotic in the first place, which you can probably tell, but even if I was, would I love Ireland more than life itself? I doubt it. I quite like being alive.

I think I would be more likely to do it if I had witnessed atrocities, or feared that they would happen to those I loved.

If it was just a threat of Britain taking over the government, then probably not.

If I thought they'd be marching down O'Connell Street flying a flag with my face on it 100 years later I might. But knowing my luck I'd trip and fall on the way to the battle field and end up taking out a few of my own by accident

I'm really not sure what modern first world army the defense forces would be able to withstand a direct assault from for any length of time, particularly without air support. I'm pretty sure the country would not be saved (by your definition) so it would be a completely futile death.

To answer your question, as a combatant or partisan/irregular fighter - no, absolutely not

Yeah, I probably wouldn't be arsed then. But if they tried to replace proper Taytos with the imposters that are sold in the North, then that would be a different matter.

Hypothetical answer: absolutely, I would hypothetically die for my Country.

Nope. I am not an never will be nationalist or patriotic. I had no choice being born in Ireland, why be proud of it? Might as well be proud of being white or male. That said, while I'm not proud I do appreciate living in a country with clean water, no war, a reasonable social welfare network and good public services, despite the Indo freaks.
