That car was first owned by a property developer in Dublin. Had one of the first 6ers in the country a couple years previous.

Impressive spec. The grey leather and interior is interesting, not many E65s with it.

Same colour combo as mine, the salesman reckoned it is a good combo and I agree with obvious bias. Only thing missing from this car is the night vision camera. Rear comfort seats are.... rare :D

No ventilated seats or comfort access at a quick glance. :D Nice all the same, it won't hang around long. Only thing holding it back are the wheels, which are common all the same on 750s.

Tbh it would be worth more if you did the bearings and put it through the NCT.

Knock from the rear is more likely top shock mounts. Less expensive than you would think.

    It's a nice car.

You said 'Mechanically perfect considering mileage' would you elaborate on that?:)

Lovely e class. For that year the cabin is very current. Such bull**** with the Irish motor tax system a2.5 is e1080 100cc more a near e200 leap!

Nice car, I'd love one myself. For your asking price I'd expect it to be faultless though, and with a new NCT.

A little OT, but did someone here link to this 750Li like a year ago? Same garage too, has no one bought it?

You are the only man around here for that machine.

Haha, or in the country it would seem. Mind boggling that a car like that can sit for so long unsold; I don't think i'd have the stomach for €2350 tax either. Pretty sure it was sitting around the €35,000 mark last I saw. €25k is where it should be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,192 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Crazy thing is that it is still taxed. Sitting there in the showroom.

Do you not think they would take €25k cash if you waved it in front of them?

That said, I wouldn't. In 5 years time it will be worth no more than about €5k. Then it will be a nice buy :D

I dunno, if it was €35k 10-12 odd months ago, what did they pay for it? They hardly have a €10k margin in there.

I'm the opposite, I probably would. '09 is fresh enough, tech is mostly bang up to date and there plenty of years before it becomes just another old barge.

That's the general problem with the Irish motoring trade. They are too stuck up on the "it stands me" principle and they can't look beyond that to what is a realistic price that will actually sell the car.

In other words - sometimes they are dreaming, and unwilling to realise the inevitable loss on a mistake. And the longer they hold on to their "it stands me", the more they lose...

^^ If its currently taxed, then its probably being used as a 'company car' and they are writing down a percentage of its value each year against tax.

Mmmm 5.0 v8 twin turbo. Just saying that gives me a semi.
Curious, when is the tax up on that? And id say if you did show up with 25k cash they'd give it to you.
2 year warranty is a very attractive selling point as well.

Tax is up in 4 days :D

I wonder if the 2300 tax makes it worthwhile to do limousine tax? I know it's so close its not worth it at 1809. You could be driver for the couple of weddings you'd be invited to anyway each year, as a gift.. :D If you were going down the long term barge route that would probably be the best bet

You'd also need a psv licence, and insurance to operate the car as a psv. You will probably also need to do a tax return, which while uncomplicated, is another hassle. If the extra marginal cost of these was less than the tax difference, then why not. But it sounds like a hassle.

If the cost of the tax was an issue, surely it makes more sense to buy an older car, or a smaller car in the first place

You'd need taxi insurance which is a multiple of private insurance.

    Edit : just said

Or just don't bother taxing it! A good friend of mine was stopped last week in a 2004 530d, insured and NCTd, tax out by several years. The guard asked where the tax was "its too expensive so I don't bother with it", guard agreed it was stupidly high and let him away!

Wouldn't happen me, I'd be done!

Ye, we all have friends like that. My friend saw a nigerian woman leave a pram on a bus.

Wouldn't be able to play that game. Why buy a car knowing you can't afford the tax.

What's a fine anyway? For instance, how much is a fine if caught with no tax on a 3 litre if say it's out of tax by no more than 3 months? What would stop someone buying a big engined car and swapping names on the logbook over and back every 11 weeks? I know, I know, legally that's ok though? I'm not endorsing it in any way but hypothetically speaking?

Very easy to do and you'd likely get away with it in most parts of the country. But try selling on a 2009 750Li with 23 owners in a few years and see how far you get.

    Here's a clean S500 with a shade over 100k miles.

NCT just out, but 6 months tax.

The car will be seized .

As far as the insurance company and an accident is concerned, is the policy not invalidated if the car is not taxed and on the road legally ?

Re insurance it depends on the terms and conditions.
Swapping names over again and again could work but if you lived in a small town and kept meeting the same guard at a checkpoint, how would you explain it?
The guard was amazingly nice as he could have seized the car and you wouldn't get it back until the back tax is paid and if it has been several years I imagine you are looking at writing off the car.
