4.2L A8 for €2750. Awful advert, but relatively low miles.

Bit of an odd one, if I put the reg in to https://www.carsireland.ie/add.php it says reg not found but if I put it in motortax.ie or cartell.ie it is found. What could cause that, it's not an import by the reg number, could it be a car that VRT export rebate has been got from?

I'd enquire about the car but I know from the rubbish pics and 12 year old child description that it would break my heart trying to get the basic information about the condition out of the car from the seller and I'm not driving down to Mayo for a visual.

Valid test on it until 1/4/16.

@Atlantic Dawn - carsireland hasn't been functioning for a good few hours now. It doesn't recognise any regs. Hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow. A useful tool for all us bangerhunters :D

Yes I normally use it to get the previous owners, NCT and if there's tax, sometimes useful too for spec like Xenons etc.correc

Just an observation - most of the Lexus I saw on DD were on Cork plates - maybe just a coincidence but I clicked about 10 ads last night all but 1 were cork reg! :D

I'd imagine that was to do with Kearys. They were one of the main Lexus dealers in the country for many years.

I'd take that A8 all day over an E65. Lashings of power and quattro too yet far easier to live with than an S8. Could be a really nice motor if tidied up a bit.

NCTS last night said it expires in 2016?
    NCT due date 01/04/2016.

    NCT due date 01/04/2016.

New nct website is abit misleading.
Once within 90 days of test date it says next nct due on that date however if you go further down the page and enter reg into the section for checking when test is due, it will give expiry date.

You're right, stupid new site. Expiry was 31/03/2013.

can always tell a car has no nct when the alloy is missing their middle sections

also for 110k, the back seats are looking very distressed

Either that or the fact that those style wheels were notorious for getting their center sections stolen as they could be clicked straight into the same style wheels on VW Golfs, Polo's etc

The genuine version of the wheels has locks IIRC, but the reps were just click in / out.

Everyone likes what they have, but it makes perfect sense having it by the steering wheel. You could argue reaching down to change drive mode (just because the gearbox is underneath) is as archaic as changing gear itself.

And it leaves room for the excellent cup holders in the E65, far superior to F01... I believe you have to buy an insert. Good cupholders are high on my priority, I often set off on 2-3 hour journey, critical safety extras are 750ml water and large travel mug of scald.:D

Gone already, was well priced to be fair. But being sold by a part-time dealer with another 3 cars on sale, so you'd have to wonder what money he bought it at to make money, and consequently what problems it may have had to acquire it at that price.

Additionally, the VRT refund is not a sure thing by any means - so many things that can leave it void, such as a previous refund being issued on it, which regardless of time is held against the car. eg - If you vrt'ed it in 2003 and appealed the figure and got 5k off the bill, this 5k is held on record and used against any future refund - so the circa 2k refund due currently, would be wiped out.

I heard that about any previous refunds being held against.
That cannot be lawful and will fail if tried in court. After all an appeal only works if you can satisfy revenue that their figure was in fact wrong based on other cars being offered for sale. That being the case, any refund still only leaves the car with 100 of required vrt paid.
I know they are said to be doing it but id imagine someone will challenge that sooner rather than later.

They are interpreting a subsection of the 1992 Finance act this way.

Ultimately someone may challenge it, but until that point, thems the beans unfortunately.

You luxobarge lads might point me in the right direction.... I'm at the very end of my 40s and since I work 40m away in the big smoke and seeing that I'm horsing up everyday on the motorway in a 10 yr old fiesta, I was gonna treat myself to a big old cruiser..for the 50th. I love the s class... But its got to have a budget or 7/8k..are they a bag of ****e or will they go on for ever...

At that budget you are probably looking at the s class that was sold until 2005. You would pick up an e65 7 series for that money no problem, even a facelift one. I wonder if you best bet would be an a6 or 5 series, e class or Volvo, a massive jump in comfort on fiesta, but cheaper insurance and tax...
