didn't he get his first full cap in the last autumn international series? I know he's has his injuries but he's hardly fallen that far down the pecking order since then, or has he? Genuine question - is he in the extended WC training squad?

    Yes, but against Georgia.

Ryan isn't in the RWC training squad, whereas Conan is and Ruddock would have been except for injury.

Ryan just isn't as good as he was hyped when younger.
He isn't an openside, he is a 6. Not a great carrier, not great on the ground.
Solid professional but nothing special, won't be at Leinster much longer more than likely.
When everyone is healthy he is competing with McLaughlin to be 3rd choice 6.

Watched him the whole way up through school - has always been a monster in the contact area; but to look at him as a one dimensional bosh machine does him a disservice. He has a decent pass on him and isn't afraid to get stuck into the dirty work.

I'm not sure where they'd be available but take a look at the Ireland U20s 6N 2014 if you want to see some of his play.

Yeah I know he played 10 a lot in school and apparently had a very good skill set on him but just wondering if he's regressed a little in this department. On paper he should be a guy who is at least getting some experience at senior level

How is Dan Leavy developing? He looked a good player at U20s level. Is he still at Leinster?

He was out for a long time with a broken leg I believe. I understand that Leinster are still expecting big things from him. Tough position to get the chance though.

Now world cup 2015 for us is over anyone care to predict a side for 2019 now???

I'm gone it a shot though so hard so many young talent coming through.
    McGrath
    Brian Byrne
    Moore
    Henderson
    ???
    Ruddock
    Heenan
    Conan/ stander
    Murray
Sexton (or Ross Byrne if he moves and gets game time)
    Mclosky
    Henshaw
Back 3 haven't a clue, I imagine Zebo in there some where and new young players. I imagine Kearney and Bowe won't be here.

I assume the midfield will be Henshaw and Ringrose.

Hard to guess after that, who really cares we will go out in the QFs anyway as per every WC. Even Scotland and Romania have made a semi final.

When have Romania made it to the semi final?

Scotland should have made it to the final in 1991 but for a really really bad miss kick from Gavin Hastings. They had a very good team back then to be fair.

Maybe they haven't. Something they share in common with Ireland.

Always a fairly impossible task to make any predictions with such a distant timeline, but it's also interesting to think about. Especially when you need something to distract yourself from the doom & gloom of the past week :(

The likes of Henderson, Henshaw, McCloskey, Murray, Ruddock, Moore, McGrath, Conan & a few others all look to have the capacity to continue developing even further & may well become top class players at international level. JJ Hanrahan, Olding, Marmion, Furlong, Ringrose, & several others also have buckets of potential & may kick on to be top internationals if they stay healthy.

There's plenty of talent around right now, so it will all depend on who can nail down a starting spot at their province & stay injury free. There's a good basis with the lads above though, and hopefully there will be plenty more coming through in the next few years.

Oh hadn't seen this thread. I'll throw something up to have a laugh at in 3.5 years I suppose.

Curious as to how you feel Jackson will improve his versatility and leapfrog Madigan. Mads will be plenty young enough to hold that 22 jersey.
More likely I would think that Sex will be gone from the game and Jackson starting. With Mads still on the bench.

The last couple of months have proved how impossible these predictions are. 6-8 months ago, no one was talking about Dillane, VdF, Bealham or even CJ really. Now we would all expect them to be going to the RWC in 2019.

Agree about Bealham, but mainly because AhYou dropped off the standard, and Moore is leaving

Disagree for CJ, obvious pick for anyone since he's IQ, sadly just after RWC
Even Dillane and VdF were clear prospects for RWC in 3 and 1/2 years. Much time to develop from their natural abilities

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,257 ✭✭✭Hagz

I don't think Dillane was a clear prospect personally. At the start of the season I don't think anyone would have predicted him to get a cap, or to get a cap over the ensuing two seasons to be honest. All that being said, he may still miss out on the RWC 2019 with the calibre of second row coming through from all provinces.

I did a quick scan back through the thread and a couple of people had CJ but no one had Dillane or VdF before the 6 Nations started. I think nearly everyone has Murray. Hope someone is at the very least challenging him for his spot 3.5 years from now.
