Fabulous day and now a fabulous night here in the north east, its been very cold the last few days, but that doesnt bother me, its better then that wet muck we've had for most of the last 6 months.

Last 4* months (November - February)

Are we all still calling for a cold April?

Evidence why for my reason that it will be

    - It is gradually getting colder after this brief spell of some high maximums
    - The top 5 strongest El Ninos were all followed by a colder than normal April (inc. 1983 and 1998)

It looks like a low will bring widespread showery rain on Wednesday (though not particularly heavy).

Keep the water supplies in Dublin up :)

How many days has it been since rainfall?

Well I haven't recorded a drip since the 9th (not even 10 days yet!). And Louise Lear on BBC said we have been dry for so long, she is out of her mind! And no it don't matter if they're from England or Wales or such because they also recorded their last rainfall on the 9th. Let's see this dry spell compared with last years longest or notable dry spells

    January 30th - February 12th (14 days)
    April 3rd - 9th (6 days)
    April 13th - 23rd (10 days)
    June 6th - 25th (19 days) (I only recorded 0.2mm throughout this period)
    August 11th - 18th (7 days)
    September 4th - 10th (6 days)
    September 25th - October 4th (9 days)
    October 7th - 20th (13 days)

Well we have more dry days during this dry spell than 3 of these dry spells from 2015 so far or should I say, I have!

When was the last completely dry month in Ireland? By this I mean, no station records above average rainfall. It looks like it is March 2012 - that long ago!!!

It's a lovely morning, sunny, foggy and frosty, but with promise. I hope it's better than yesterday, I was quite cold and we had very little sun.

Exact same here in West Cork.

Very cloudy day so far here. Not a sunny interval. I haven't gotten above 8c.

Lovely "warm" day the difference the sun makes at this time of year is just huge. 12.6C

In contrast, plenty of cloud and I only reached 7.2c.

This March reminds me a lot of February 2013.

Nicest day of the week so far in Castlebar, broke 13C for a while but felt quite warmer, compared to the last 6 months it feels like heaven this week.

Back to where we started by the look of things. So much for SSW and high latitude blocking! I'll know next winter and not pay any attention to this SSW meaningless tripe!

Sorry "another..."? St. Patrick's Day felt like a Summer day here with big boosts of temperature in the sun and I am not far from you?

    M.T. says a possibility of 20-30mm on Thursday? I hope he's wrong.

I know that this is a Spring thread but here's an update on why I predict Summer 2016 is going to be one of the better. Years ending in "6" tend to be good summers with one exception though. See below:

1976 (The 2nd best Summer ever in Irish history after 1995)
June - Very hot, dry and sunny. (32.5c was recorded in Boora, Co. Offaly)
July - Dry, warm and sunny.
August - Very hot, sunny and dry.

1986 (Very poorly dull, wet and cool)
June - Very thundery and dull but relatively warm.
July - Dullest July on record. Relatively dry but variable generally and average temperatures.
August - Exceptionally wet, cold and dull.

1996 (Very average overall but not a bad Summer)
June - Dry, warm and very sunny.
July - Relatively dry, sunny and warm.
August - Very wet and dull but warm.

    2006 (Best Summer since 1995)
June - Very sunny, warm and dry.
July - Extremely warm, sunny and relatively dry in parts.
August - Mostly dull but dry and relatively warm.

Apart from 1986 - the odd one out, this seems like an interesting pattern.

I'm grateful for the dry spell. And the lack of that godawful wind. But I'd really like some of those blue skies to go along with my clement weather.

The wall to wall grey is bleak. And it's cold. Not bitter but 7 or 8 degrees and feels colder. St. Patrick's day was excellent. More needed.

What would you do to have a month like March or April 2011 again?

Very small diurnal range here today thanks to the continuous cloud cover and wind off the sea. Low of 6.9C and high of 8.6C.
