It does betoken a lack of nuance on behalf of the Americans, snubbing such a high profile elected Irish Politician.

The problem is he got an invite.

    There's a problem?

I really can't stand him and I'm not at all bothered to see him treated in such a manner. He has a lot of blood on his hands and should never have been invited in the first place.

Delighted to see that the Obama administration is finally cracking down on terrorists.

Thanks for that. I'm not feeling great but you did make me laugh.

The best part is that Mary Lou and Martin just went in anyway and ditched him on his lonesome.

"eh... See ya back at the hotel, Gerry"

Trump would have been happy to see his old friend!

What was the point of 9/11 if it didn't take the heat off the Irish? If he thought that was bad he should try travelling while having a tan and beard, randomly selected for searches all of the time.

I don't think Trump would have the smarts to make an informed political opinion one way or another. Whatever the mob tells him I suppose.

He wasn't denied entry, he had additional security checks and he left because it was taking too long.

He had not patience for 90 minutes of security searches?

Because of Gerry " I was never in the IRA" Adams and his comrades in the 70's and 80's, how many millions of others had to waste hours every week at security searches because of the PIRA bombing campaign?

n.b. I'll say one thing for him at least, he changed his attitudes towards the "armed struggle" in his middle age.

Maybe it was "members only" and we all know Gerry was never a member...

Why, was he a terrorist sympathiser?

Seems quite a leap of logic to try blame security searches on the ira :pac:

Pretty sure they were trying to remove them :pac:

By that logic Mandela should have been excluded from diplomatic functions. Terrorist is a form of warfare not a moral stance.

When the PIRA was bombing all the shops and businesses in N.I. as they were economic targets, shoppers going in to shops etc had their bags searched. Plus there were often security force checkpoints - if there was no armed struggle there would have been no need for same.

If there was no security forces....there'd be no armed struggle?? :pac: :pac: :P

Maybe they did a simple maths test to check his sobriety and Gerry got confused?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,192 ✭✭✭✭hmmm

I don't for a minute believe this was accidental. This was a deliberate snub to send him a message, and I'd love to know why - what has he done which has so annoyed the White House?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,549 ✭✭✭maryishere

If there was no security forces....

there would have been more bloodshed if only the extremists on each side had guns and there was no police / army to keep civil order. There would have been even more Northern Bank roberies, unrest etc.

Here in the Republic our security services had to defend against many PIRA / INLA bank robberies, kidnappings etc too.

The people of Ireland have elected the imprisoned before.

It's not like there's an expectation that all representatives will be be able to attend foreign venues or government offices or even set foot on the street.

Maybe they gave him a lie detector test to ask was he in the IRA, and he failed it?
