Just read this in the IC. Has there been an apology? I don't think it's been covered by the Irish media. I guess some jobsworth chinless wonder got his jollies from it.
Does everyone agree that he should not have been stopped entering?

This happened before years ago if I'm not mistaken.

Probably not the best idea going to America when you're the ex spokesperson for a terrorist organisation.

It was on the 6o'c news on RTE

ETA post made slightly redundant by the one above :D

Delighted he was refused admittance. I have absolutely no time for the lying ex-Terrorist.

He should be refused entry back into Ireland too.

    Kinda funny as well.

One of the main drivers of the Peace Process. This would never have happened in Clintons day.

He's an elected representative by some of the people of Ireland, like it or lump it

The graveyards are full of people that can't go to the USA at all thanks to Gerry and co.

I wouldn't let him in to my house.

    Go Barack.

He's no ex spokesperson for the British, I think you've got this wrong. Gerry is an ex spokesperson of one of Irelands and the worlds finest guerilla army! Not one terrorist bone in the mans body!

I've no time for him myself but he was invited.

Poor form to invite someone to your house and then dick them around and not let them in for 30mins+

Though these days Gerry looks a bit like everyone's favourite Father Christmas.

I did like his quite though

He wasn't denied entry, he had additional security checks and he left because it was taking too long.

Yes he was. He was stopped, given the treatment and, if checking someone's creds takes 90 mins in this day and age, there is more to it than meets the eye.

Who pays for these politicians on a trip like this? Themselves? Sinn Fein? Taxpayers?

It does betoken a lack of nuance on behalf of the Americans, snubbing such a high profile elected Irish Politician.

I really can't stand him and I'm not at all bothered to see him treated in such a manner. He has a lot of blood on his hands and should never have been invited in the first place.

The best part is that Mary Lou and Martin just went in anyway and ditched him on his lonesome.

"eh... See ya back at the hotel, Gerry"

Trump would have been happy to see his old friend!

What was the point of 9/11 if it didn't take the heat off the Irish? If he thought that was bad he should try travelling while having a tan and beard, randomly selected for searches all of the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,564 ✭✭✭✭steddyeddy

I don't think Trump would have the smarts to make an informed political opinion one way or another. Whatever the mob tells him I suppose.

He had not patience for 90 minutes of security searches?

Because of Gerry " I was never in the IRA" Adams and his comrades in the 70's and 80's, how many millions of others had to waste hours every week at security searches because of the PIRA bombing campaign?

n.b. I'll say one thing for him at least, he changed his attitudes towards the "armed struggle" in his middle age.

Seems quite a leap of logic to try blame security searches on the ira :pac:

Pretty sure they were trying to remove them :pac:

By that logic Mandela should have been excluded from diplomatic functions. Terrorist is a form of warfare not a moral stance.
