    Become a monster indeed

The first thing that I thought when I heard that ad was "The are hamstrung by the stupid domain name that they have chosen, and are now trying to shoehorn in some bad fit of an advertising campaign to try to build the brand name."

There's a significant economy recovery - no propaganda there.

Not everyone benefits in a recovery just as not everyone gets impacted in a downturn. Fact of life. Trying to pretend there isn't an economic recovery because its not impacting you doesn't change facts.

Talking to the meter reader tells me otherwise. Luckily I'm able to pay my bills but there are many out there really struggling, the amount using overpriced pre pay power is shocking.

Anecdotes from meter readers do not outweigh the avalanche of actual, verifiable data (unemployment numbers dropping, employment numbers rising, income tax revenue rocketing, consumer spending rising, etc, etc, etc) as well as the relatively reliable sentiment figures.

The Monster.ie ads are really puzzling me at the moment. There's a couple of them that run along the lines of 'did you love computers at school but never followed it up because no one from your village went into computers? Well log onto monster.ie and show employers what you're made of' and 'did you love taking things apart as a child and tinkering with them but never thought engineering was for you?' etc

So do they have a load of employers waiting to hire people with no engineering or programming qualifications to work in those areas..crying out for people who gave up on their interests while at school, never bothered with college?

    Become a monster indeed

Your dream to work in advertising is one of the lines..how ironic. :D

I'm talking about the rest of the country that exists between Kerry and Dublin. I'll tell the meter reader in April that he's hallucinating that a guy or girl on boards says we're all on the pigs back and no one got their electricity cut off since the last meter reading in February.

I didn't say any of what you're imagining there

There is a strong economic recovery on. Your meter readers anecdotes do not in any way stop that being the case.

There are some people still broke. That also does not stop the recovery existing.

oh the Eff'in voicebox on yer one from the Clonmel hearthcare ad, she pops up from time to time on other ads. I had the misfortune of seeing her the the movie Steller Days a while back , now I know what she looks like and it makes the pain even worse !!!!!!!! she is so mono-f'n-tone she makes Leonard Cohen sound like a soprano.
Newstalk - you have a lot to answer for, my nerves are shattered :(

The Avonmore Slimline milk ad wherein if you drink it, you won't be tempted by chocolate croissants or whatever.

Someone should complain to the advertising standards people (not fully serious).

    Bord Gais Energy ad:

"Are you a beach baby or a city baby?"

    Neither. Both. Stupid b***ard. It's a baby!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,446 ✭✭✭✭Birneybau

    Avonmore Slimline Effect.

    F.O.A.D.

The three I really hate at the moment.

    1. That Bord Gais a$$hole. I just switch off when that stupid ad comes on, in any of it's variations.
    2. Golf. I mean who writes this mindnumbingly stupid rubbish?
    gobsh1te1: "Oh I like models"
    gobsh1te2: "These are Volkwagen models"
    gobsh1te1: "Even better"
    3. That .ie proves your Irish ad. TWO record scratches, just to prove that the if you have registered a .ie domain and you are actually from the island of Saints and Scholars, then you are truly void of originality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,363 ✭✭✭✭Del.Monte

Funny, hyper-critical and all as I am, I actually think the .ie Ad is quite clever - whatever about the product.

Exactly how much mileage do the Ray D'Arcy Show plan to drag out of that interview with Sean Gallagher?

Was there really nothing else worth using for advertising purposes in the last month or so? (or however long the SG clip has been running, which seems like forever, tbh)

Does anyone find the music behind the Aviva ads like fingernails scraping down a blackboard?

Isn't it supposed to be some sort of Charlie Haughey impersonation?

It must be painful, having his nuts trapped in the deckchair, like that.

Originally, yes, but it has become degraded as successive voiceover actors took over.

I don't know if he would regret it that much when he sold it to John Malone for 23 billion dollars ...
