Biggest positive of the weekend surely has to be no more Ido Portal wasting a slot on the MMA hour. John Kavanagh on later along with Shields should be good hear their thoughts on how it went down.

A lot of people only loving the fact that McGregor lost. I bet they couldn't wait for the day that he finally tasted defeat in the UFC!

Firstly, sure there's no getting away from the fact that if you talk so much trash that you're going to get a backlash when you lose........ but what's a loss? Nothing! He's not beaten, he lost a fight!

Look at all the champions, Johnson, RDA, Cruz, Lawler, Cormier*, Werdum..... all of them have tasted defeat! What makes a REAL champion is tasting that defeat, learning from it and coming back stronger!

All the greats have had this same set back. Liddell lost to Jeremy Horn, Matt Hughes lost to Hallman, Hughes himself beat GSP before GSP came back to be the most dominant WW ever.

As Matt Hughes used to say, if you haven't been beaten, you haven't been fighting anybody!

In fairness he left himself open for abuse it came with the territory . He said he would never tap again . He tapped . He slagged opponents for panic wresting , he panic wrestled . He said he could go all day . He gassed.

Anyway one lose wont kill him and will add to the intrigue for his next fight against Edgar/Aldo or a rematch against Nate if he cant cut to 145.

Great point, Conor could have refused to fight after RDA pulled out, if I'm not mistaken, Jon Bones Jones did that when Dan Henderson became injured and refused to fight Chael Sonnen, UFC 151 was then cancelled.

Sure, it would have looked better on his record, but with so many people pulling out of fights with him - he'd never get a fight.

Realistically speaking, Conor took a big risk fighting Diaz on short notice. He could have turned down the fight, or pushed to have the fight at lightweight, forcing Diaz into a tough weight cut.

But despite all of his trash talking, I don't think the man should be berated for stepping up to a challenge.

Diaz is a much easier fight than RDA any day of the week.

Agree with previous posters.I think McG needs to change camp or at least go away and train with grappling animals.Iron sharpens iron and all that and it was evident ,even though he gassed, that his ground game needs improvement.Diaz mounted him and finished with ease.

Mcg is obviously very loyal to his team but in order to advance his career and become an all time great he will have to get experience outside of SBG.

I think Conor needs to decide what he wants a Stick to it.

Either fight Anyone, Anytime , Anywhere and expect to win or lose ( Russian Roulette )

    or

Focus on Divisions and work through them making him a better fighter. ( Improvement )

So by that logic, with McGregor being unbeaten he was fighting nobodies. Gothcha!

He wasn't unbeaten, he'd been beaten twice!

given how he carried on, a lot of people are loving his taste of humility , its called schadenfreude, Germany invented it , Ireland elevates it to an art form

Exactly. At the end of the day, he set himself up for that fall with his constant hubris. He brought everything that he is getting now onto himself and that is all their is too it really. You cant have it every way.

What will be interesting is his next contest. It is probably the most important fight of his career.

Does RDA eat the lefts and keep coming like Diaz? I don't think so. I think they would destroy him. You would have a hard time knocking Diaz out with a baseball bat in fairness.

RDA wouldn't get hit as much as Diaz, he'd just close the distance and do an impression of Bam-Bam from the flintstones.

MMA maths doesn't work. They are very different fights.

I think this point has been overlooked. There is no way McGregor approaches a fight with RDA the same way.

Late to the party but I think it's very very sad to see fellow Irish men relishing in his defeat.

The man went up a second weight class at short notice and still turned up to fight. Respect given for the fact he still turned up which is more than slot of anti Mc Gregor people would do.

Even the greatest lost (Ali lost 5 matches) and Mc Gregor is handling his loss well. It will make him better for sure.

He needs to get back and shut people like Aldo up.

    No doubt he will.

Was really disappointed with his gas tank the other day. People will say it was down to him focus on haymakers & missing but it was only the 2nd round and he was clearly struggling. The build up to the fight he was saying this was his easiest weight cut & felt great, which is more of a head scratcher

Plus its his 3rd loss to submission, which other fighters are going to take up on & recognise his weakness

I agree with other people saying he should switch things up in terms of training camps. Team Elevation seem to be on the up & have amazing facilities & coaches but with since Dillashaw trains there dont think he would be welcome!

It was a hard one to take, but a rematch with Aldo or fight with Edgar is shaping up nicely. Either fight is going to generate a massive amount of interest.

On the upside McGregor on a Dublin card 2016 seems more of a possibility after that result

I reckon at ufc 200 we see aldo v mcgregor as jose aldo is a bigger draw than frankie, diaz v dos anjos for the lightweight belt and taite v rousey for the belt.

Also in that infamous 'El Chapo' press conference he insulted just about every fighter in game by saying he'd take out the whole roster in 4 months, nobody was on his level.......he went way overboard in that presser for me, it was too much McGregor and brought all the enemies on him...

In saying that I still wanted to see him win and continue winning

I would much rather see McGregor vs Edgar at 200. Do we really want to go through another McGregor/Aldo circus. I for one have had enough of that promoting, maybe let it stew for awhile. Edgar is a new opponent and more intriguing for the fans.
