If you dont like the man or hes not saintly enough for you log off the Conor McGregor Thread on the mma forum, simple.
He could just rise above, be the bigger man, instead he posts the same old fake bravado crap but it all rings a bit hollow when it's just a few hours out from you submitting. He has reached the limit of where that style of promotion can take him now with this embarrassing loss, a change of tack and showing himself to be the decent guy he is supposed to be could get him some more new fans imo

No I'm going to stay here thanks, the fanboys put me off this forum for long enough already.

Oh and you might want to correct the spelling mistake in #746

I seriously don't get all the reactions it's way ott, He's lost one ufc fight ffs these things happen in this sport that's it, Of course theres that aura gone about him and the things he was saying but what do people want him to do now go into a cave and completely change his character after a defeat? It's the way he bounces back in his next fight that most will care about not the sh!te that's said between now and then, Some people need to chill out.

Ido Portal is apparently an expert in jiu jitsu as well

"Once you're pinned down, you are a sitting target. You're moving in predictable ways. It's very easy to implement all kinds of attacks on you. Then, people like Aldo can shine. Once you're on the move, being unpredictable and taking all kinds of shapes and rhythms, then the whole game changes."

This guy is doing pad work with Conor, advising him on his jiu jitsu and wasting hours doing silly yoga stretches in parks.

What's Ido's rank? Who gave him his black belt?

As far as I can tell, he's not even a single stripe white belt, why the **** would his input on Jiu Jitsu be worth anything?

What's his grade in Muay Thai? What level is his kyokushin or Taekwondo? How long has be been boxing? Who has he trained with?

Doing flagpole poses on lamp posts and back flips on the beach don't mean sh*t.

Frankie "The Answer" Edgar, I heard you were asking for a title shot. I respect you as a fighter, but let's check the facts: you lost twice to Ben Henderson before coming to the 145 division and geting a title shot against me without having fought once in the featherweight division. We had a great fight, but everybody knows the result. You can't come here now and cut the line, you have to wait because you don't have any right to ask for a title shot yet. Conor McGregor: instead of running up to a different weight division and talking **** about me, you could make your time valuable and go to a real gym to learn real jiu-jitsu. I'll be ready for you at UFC 200, so we can leave no doubt.

Has Jose got a new media relations manager lately? or has he just learned that talking **** like Conor gets you paid? nice to see, shame he wasnt ready last week when he was needed,he should be resting up not thinking of fighting imo.

CONOR McGregor's star came crashing down to the canvass in Las Vegas last night as Nate Diaz choked the life out of the MGM Grand Garden Arena and submitted the UFC's golden boy on an utterly startling night of mixed martial arts.
    Too cocky gets you nowhere.

Did you rob that headline from a newspaper or do you actually always talk like that?

I don't think he's cocky, though. I think he believes he's the best in the world. Thats confidence. I don't think he walks around thinking he's better than your average joe in real life.

I think he ramps up the confidence and he acts cocky when he's promoting fights to sell more PPV's. A lot of people just can't grasp the concept of someone acting like a pr1ck for a few weeks to make more money.

That's my point, why act the big I am if you cant back it up.
I agree that a lot of the showmanship is for the media and advertising but
unless you can back it all up then it will all come to an abrupt end.
Id much prefer if he weren't so cocky and then when he got defeat at least
you could say well he was a damn good lad without all the ****.
But I suppose with the money those guys make, what do they care anyway.

Why act the big man? I just said why in my previous comment. To make money! I'd say McGregor couldn't give a fiddlers fcuk what anyone thinks of him, as long as he makes as much money as possible.

And on your point of backing it up, he's backed everything he's said up until last night. He wasn't going to go undefeated for the rest of his career. He'll still talk sh1t in the future and he'll still make more than everyone eles, imo.

I see no harm at all in being cocky and in fairness he had a right to be.He entered the UFC and achieved so much in such a short time.

Im sure he will be humbled by the loss but I wouldn't expect or want him to lose the cockiness as its great for show and I don't know anyone who wasn't amused or had a laugh at the press conference banter.

I think the world would be a boring place if everyone was 'respectful' and walking around complimenting each other.

Lets be honest if we was that respectful guy then he wouldn't have half the fan base or have made the millions he has.

Its like a Donald trump effect-the world seems to be tiring of all the political correctness and enjoys straight talking brashness.

I am a Mcgregor fan and have been since he was fighting in GAA halls,i hope he learns from this and comes stronger than ever, defends his belt and gets back on track at multi weight belt holding.

I also hope to see him adjust properly to the new weight in future and avenge his loss to diaz down the line

Talking got McGregor to exactly where he is, I doubt he really cares about him acting the big man. McGregor isn't afraid of a challenge, he is probably the most active main event fighter. He lost, he bit off more than he could chew, he took the defeat like a man, I applaud him. There is much more to come from McGregor.

He's not everyone's cup of tea but that's what's great about him, I sick and tired of this PC, afraid to offend world we live in. Our sporting heroes are dull model pro's, generally reading from a script, Mcgregor is a refreshing change.

Your the one acting the big man taking shots behind a keyboard.

I still find Conor entertaining and will watch his fights but I cannot believe that he is humble in defeat or victory. He is the last person I would describe as humble. As for complaining about other fighters gloating, that's all he ever does!

I didn't really understand his comments about the bigger man being able to take the shots and having to adjust to that. How would he adjust to that if his boxing isn't effective and he isn't much good on the ground?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 97 ✭✭Ken Masters

first off i am not a UFC fan at all, it doesn't excite me one bit, but i am not going to run it down as that is just ignorant, i am a lover of Golf, but i know a lot of people hate it, and when they have to let the whole world know that golf is s*** whether it be on Facebook or in a bar, it bugs me, each to our own as they say, i totally respect what McGregor has done in the UFC and tbh the guy is funny ide imagine if he was in a bar and he sat with ya you would have a great chuckle, remember he was a dole head, ide like to have a pint with him, do the golf haters Respect Rory McIlroy? Probably not, but that's down to an ignorance thing.

Pretty easy really , adjust your gameplan... he used all his energy landing and trying to land large power shots which wear out your gas tank , a lot of them were missing the target.

If he was to do it again , I'm sure he'd have a much slower approach , wait for openings before landing them power shots , time them better...attack his leading leg, aim to win rounds on points.

It's a tactical sport above all else , as you seen you can lose a fight before it starts if your game plan is all wrong...and his was on Saturday.

I know his ground game wasnt tested in that fight really as he was done when subbed but they do they you have to be comfortable on the ground to be comfortable standing, imagine if he had a takedown defence that people really respected and a game off his back,it would lead to more stand up fights naturally,

Everyone has their style hes never going to be like werdum on his back but if he takes a break id love him to do lots of grappling maybe travel train with some wrestlers new bodies ect.

And at the same time you are calling the team with the best wrestlers in FW a bunch of useless midgets :)

And no I don't think McG would ever go to alpha male as it's a dumb idea

I mean big guys to grapple with no one in particular just new bodies, not saying the wrestling is bad in sbg but theres no one on their pro team who is going to spam double legs all day at him,I dont think anywhere would want him really after the abuse hes given most camps.
