    Alcudia?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,990 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

Alcudia (which I had to google, it's in Mallorca) turns out to be about as close as Naples. Scilly assuming spelled right is incorrect, if spelled wrong could be closer but not quite where we want to be.

Here's a bit of a clue -- see that large building in the right background? You can probably figure out what that is, if you were near the centre of the city we are talking about looking back towards the photo vantage point, and that building was in your left background now, you would also see palm trees, a harbour and possibly a cruise ship. I would post the photo but it might have give-away clues.

To be clear, I can't validate any country yet but I have not said that any guessed country is wrong either.

Is it on the Suez Canal?

Ignore that, I've lost my bearings entirely.

Not that Josip. I'm off to bed so all guesses will have to wait until tomorrow for confirmation I'm afraid. I wish I was the tanned belly flaunting guy right now. :)

Maybe time for a clue ? Same house, from the opposite side. We were at the white car in pic 1. (you need to zoom to see it)

Yees are all on the right side of the planet though.

Don't know if I'm supposed to give clues as time passes.
The little house is not the landmark.
The white lights structures are clearly visible on Google from the right hovering distance.
The scene would have looked a lot drier 124 years ago.

It is the mouth of the Corinth Canal on the Corinth side.

    It was started in 1891.

I actually thought it was an area flooded due to one of their earthquakes.
Then I just remembered the canal. :D

    Greek-Macedonian border crossing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,705 ✭✭✭Mountainsandh

Well done jmayo, yes it's the Corinth canal, West entrance, the area is called Poseidania. On the same bank as the little house, there are archaeological remains of the Diolkos, a dry passage in existence before the wet canal. Ships used to be pulled along on a stone trackway on wooden rollers !

The bridges on the canal are sinking bridges, this option was decided upon so that in the event of a powercut, bridge will still function (sink as intended).

I am not going to say what border yet :p
I think it is like answering what country.

You need to narrow it down ;-)

EDIT: it is a major one.

    Ok will give it bump.

    It isn't the Macedonian border
