So who will step up and read the Proclamation at the exact moment 100 years on?

Well it's not really, is it? People give out about the commemorations of the Easter Rising moving in accordance with the changing date of Easter but why not? It's the traditionally accepted time which simplifies the date.

Your date is equally invalid to a degree, it's not 100 years exactly. I mean you haven't taken into account the various leap days, leap seconds into your calculation. Usually we let them go, equally by traditionally accepted idea of simplifying the matter.

Only the true political descendants of the 1916 heroes could reasonably be expected to read the proclamation.
Well that only rules out the Green party.

I don't want to make an unnecessary journey to Dublin though.

Eghh. I think we need to steer clear of politicians who give 'favours' to their friends, nice salary favours!

Slab Murphy. Followed by a duet of Boolavogue by the Healy Rae's. everyone gets bladdered then in the Dail bar and an IW protest march starts for the Vaticant

Don't be picking on the Healy Raes. And if you want to pick on Michael, you'll have to go through his brother first.

    Sean Haughey.

His grandfather (Sean Lemass) was on the roof of the GPO as a boy soldier in 1916.

The National Graves Association will be holding a commemoration on the 24th.

    www.nga.ie

"To summarise the events on 24th April:
Assembly in front of GPO between 11.15 and 12 noon. There will be entertainment in the form of music, song and dance.
March from GPO to Glasnevin cemetery accompanied by 12 marching bands from Ireland, Scotland, England, America and Australia.
On arrival at the St.Paul’s section of Glasnevin cemetery the ceremony will include the reading of the Easter Proclamation, the Roll of Honour, some poetry and the main oration which will be delivered by lifelong republican, ex POW, ex hungerstriker, trade unionist and author Tommy Mc Kearney. After the main oration there will be a lament by a piper and the proceedings will conclude with the playing of Amhrán na bhFiann.
Beidh fáilte roimh chuile ar an lá speisialta seo. Everybody will be welcome on this special day."

    Has to be Joan Bruton.

She can prefix each paragraph with "Can I just say ".

On addition the entire country can hear her, without the need for microphones, TV or radio.

    'Can I just sAAaayyyy..........'

Surely the green party will object to the noise pollution and the deaths caused amongst the avian and aquatic populations.

How about the only surviving child of a 1916 leader?

Michael Mallin, second in command of the Irish Citizens' Army under James Connolly, who was executed on 8 May 1916, has a son named Joseph Mallin. He's a Jesuit priest who's a formidable 102 years of age and by all accounts hale and hearty in Hong Kong today. He was 2 years and 7 months old when his father was executed by the British Empire.

Son of executed Rising leader celebrates 102nd birthday
