Today I went down to AMI/Overlanders in Gorey.
Bought that fantastic little 12v air pump and a tyre plue kit,Oh and a Kriega US10 tailpack aswell.

Air Pump pack a serious punch for the small size of it.Has the SAE quick connect lead,so it just plugs straight onto the SAE battery lead.
Inflates a flat tyre to 40psi in 2.5 minutes.:)

I installed my new Goldfren pads ans cleaned up the caliper. The pistons show lots of corrosion. Is this odd for a barely 2 year old bike? 2804okh.jpg

Thats not heavy corrosion Joe just run of the mill neglect on a bike thats commuting. with all the salt and grime off the roads they go like that pretty qucikly. A good clean with brake cleaner and wire brush (not the pistons) they will be as good as new....

You can get brown scotchbrite type material. I use this to clean corrosion off pistons.
Use rubber grease on the sides and on the front where they are corroded use some copper grease and don't forget to give the inside of the pistons a smear as well.
Get some ACF50 or similar on a rag and wipe the carrier and caliper as well where the corrosion is starting.

Also if you wanted after being out and about a Spray Gun (the hozelock types for gardening pump action) is very hand for giving the bike a quick pressured hose down to get the salt off the spot areas.

    bit anal but it works.

Scouring pads are great at cleaning stuff you dont want to scratch.
Pick them up in Dealz or most Discount Stores for next to nothing.

Another suggestion here for giving the calliper a covering in acf50.
Do it while the pads are out and the calliper is away from the disc so not to cause contamination.
The Pistons will come up spotless with brake cleaner and the green scouring pads from the kitchen ( don't tell the misses)

Joe, while you are cleaning the pads dont forget to do the rotors (the small holes that go all the way around the disc) on the disc. You be amazed the amount of people that neglect them and for your brakes to be 100% they need to be free from dirt and grime also.

When finished cleaning use a dry lube on the rotors that contains PTFE (it lubricates but its dry to the touch) and they will be brand new.

    *Edit Rotors/Bobbins.

I did say in original post the small holes all the same.

Just seen all the replies. Thanks lads. I have them fitted and all now and I filled it with fresh fluid. I used my new fresh copper grease and everything is grand after a quick spin today. I must check the rotors alright. Forgot these. Just t be clear I didnt mean I hadnt cleaned the bike in 2 years. I only have it since Oct I think & due to minus temperatures the last few weeks it has got little use. I have a small note book and every Mod/clean/service gets noted.

Ill be getting the auld CB cleaned up and ready for selling in a few weeks

You mean bobbins - only on bikes with fully floating rotors.

The rotor is the bit the pad grips, don't want any lubricant on that :p

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

My bad yes of course, not the disc! Most of the vids I watched referred to the "bobbins" as rotors must be the way the yanks talk....will edit for clarity.

As it happens the disc does not have ''bobbins''. There is an allen key bolt securing the disc to the wheel itself. What type of wheel is this?

There are fixed discs where the disc is one piece and is bolted directly to the hub, this is what you have.
Then there are floating discs where the attachment to the hub is separate to the part of the disc that is swept by the pads, these have the separate parts joined loosely with the bobbins so they can still act as brakes but the disc itself is free to move in a limited manner.

Fixed disc. Grand. So no maintenance required.
