I absolutely loved it. I was 12 when I played it too. I remember the Cuban and Haitian gangs too. When I bought the printing works, my own gang would spawn in that region, and you'd occasionally see them fighting with the Cubans or Haitians because it was around their territories. I'd take part in the gang fights too.

Best game of the GTA series I think.

All time classic that should be rereleased on PS4 along with San Andreas. I miss the chainsaw and the swords you could decapitate people with.

I think it's time for GTA to go to Texas. Like SA you could have 3 major cities (Austin, Houston and Dallas) plus the country side that Texas has. It's very diverse culturally. Rednecks, blacks, mexican gangs, Jesus freaks, conservative gun culture. It would be great.

Ok shutup a second ok. This game was released on PS2 in 2002 and was set in the 1980's. I played this game as a teenager and loved it. I thought cool the 80's, wow olden times.

Ok shut up. That game was released 14 years ago now. When it was released, 1988 was 14 years ago....from 2002. You get it?

So that means they could release a game now set in 2002 and today's teenagers would have the same feeling of being transported back in time to a different world of olden times???

    2002 was yesterday....what the f*ck brick d*ck is happening?

GTA Vice city was actually set in 1986, 15 years before GTA 3.

GTA 3 was released in 2001, 15 years before this year.

    Let that sink in.

It's between Lazlo and Fernando for the best VJ's in GTA as far as I'm concerned

Possibly the best and most fitting tune in any GTA ever:

Got to hand it to Rockstar, the moment in the first mission where you jump into your first car and Billy Jean is on the radio.... Just fantastic.

the beauty of that was that the song was midway through like it could be in real life, that attention to detail is what puts rockstar ahead of most developers

but in all honesty, lose your love by outfield was amazing

Owner of a lonely heart....call me,call meeee, won't you call this number now.....video killed the radio star.....

Ramping up the wanted level then hiding upstairs in the mall to see if the cops would bother following me up. And if they did, challenge accepted.

My favourite thing to do used to be beating people to death with a hammer.

Anyways, I've never played Vice City or any GTA game so I've got nothing meaningful to contribute.

    I LOL'd

    Loved Vice City. Loved it.

But my favourite GTA memory is cruising round Liberty City listening to Double Cleff FM.

That is, though, just one of a million favourite memories.

To put the OP in slightly different terms, World Cup 2002 was as long ago now as Euro 88 was then.

Me and a girl broke up the same day I got to 1st play it, I didn't care about the breakup because my brother had just walked in the door with his new PS2 and a copy of Vice City :pac:

Driving an Inferno on the big bridge, "Kids In America" on the radio, the sunset behind you painting the sky orange, and you're in your blue suit / black shirt combo.

Good God, so many memories and fun with that game.

Probably one of the finest computer games I've ever played.
I wouldn't even say I 'wasted' hours on this... they were very well spent!

I remember taking the trip to Liffey valley with my dad to get this and the copy of reservoir dogs that came with it on release. It's scary to think it was that long ago, arguably one of the greatest games ever made.

We're almost as far away from the 90s as That 70s Show was from the 70s. They could make a That 90s Show and the teens would be as bemused by the way the world was then as we were when watching That 70s Show.

    San Andreas was better :p

Your Lance Vances don't match up to your Torinos.

I'm not much of a computer game player. I will be buying the sequel to Red Dead Redemption though. That game was extraordinary.

I still consider that the greatest game I ever played. I bought it on a whim when it came out in 2010, I didn't expect to become completely engrossed in it. It was just perfectly executed, Rockstar's finest hour imo.

I remember in Vice City if you helped the police beat someone up you would get a 50 dollar good citizen reward each time you hit them. :D

Also how violent the shopping centre got with those security guys always fighting with the gang that used to wander around.
Great place to get free pistol ammo and some small time cash.

"Looks like this is the last dance for Lance Vance"
"I got enough of that in school!"

Everytime I hear one of those songs it transports me back to playing Vice City.

Probably not the best thing when I'm behind the wheel of a car...

I don't think there's been a game with a better selection of music.

Yeah that very thought occurred to me before too. That episode where Red helps Kelso fix the Atari console to play Pong.... that seemed prehistoric to us back in the 90's.

That 90's Show would have references to tamagotchis and Gameboys. What would the kids make of those!

I don't think there was a bad station on Vice City. San Andreas, you could say was just as good in its on way. SF-UR and Radio Los Santos probably the standout.

I did a road trip through California a couple of years ago with SF-UR playing most of the way. Good times.

Early 2000s fashion definitely looks dated now though?

It really, really, REALLY does. Seriously
