Don't think I've ever had a first date in a bar. What's wrong with a walk in the park, a visit to a nice museum or a date at the pictures?

You can't talk at the cinema.
Park fair enough, Id be afraid it could get awkward on a first date though.
Pub has nice busy atmosphere, casual , laid back,a drink or two is good as social lubricant.

I love Frank Ryans and Dice Bar but I'm not sure many other women do.

Ah they do. The dice is the best bar in Dublin shur.

    Worked out well did they?

Definitely not the shelbourne, and Friday/saturday night are a bad idea for a first date.i Everywhere is packed and if the date is not going great you can't escape by using the "work in the morning" excuse. A few nice Sunday afternoon pints are best.

I like it... Always have the exit strategy planned.

Well I like it. It's suitably dark and dingy for me.

My very first online date was actually in a zoo - and we ended up bailing after an hour to head to the pub, at 2pm! Cue 10 hours later we were dancing the night away in Qbar, back when it actually existed.

    God, I'm old.

Best piece of advice I never got was "Alf, have a first date on the train "

In terms of recommendations, I'd suggest the likes of The Hairy Lemon, Capitol, Anseo, or The Bleeding Horse - for example. Nice cosy spots with a bit of craic about them.

    Where is Capitol?

    Where is Capitol?

Junction of Aungier St and George's St. Not far from The Long Hall

Because if it's on Good Friday you can still drink?

Or because you can always pretend you're going to the toilet and hop off at the next stop if you're getting bored?

Both are great reasons I feel.

What the frack is a 'date' ? Do ppl still 'court' ? Very old fashioned. Why would the guy have to take the fair damsel somewhere 'nice'. Surely there are some feminists that would object to this question but I don't see them here on this thread. If you don't have the wealth to take your bird to the shelbourne every weekend then I don't see the point and it's not a reflection of your real life anyway.

In this age of 'equality' isn't there as much onus on 'the bird' to impress you too. And what effort is 'she' making. Picking up the bill would be a nice start for that swanky restaurant date. That would make a good impression, on you.

It's where two people go out somewhere to see if they want to ride each other.

Summer is just around the corner. Few cans of Dutch sitting on the boardwalk. If you're hungry, Apache do a student deal for a fiver. Sorted.

I don't know why ppl wan't to complicate things. I go out, I pull. If it's good we'll arrange to meet up again. If not , try again.

I'm not a regular visitor back to Dublin, but I met an old flame of mine from University the last time I was back. We went to Mulligans on Poolbeg Street. A lovely old-fashioned pub for a catch up. The only negative was the complete lack of a wine list. All very obvious choices served in those wretched small bottles so beloved of the Irish in a pub setting.

What's wrong with a few pints of cider & a kebab in Zaytoon on the way home?

Well so do I. Great pub. Great crowd.

Of course staying at home and pulling is probably a more regular occurrence.

Tish and bother, whatever is one to do?

Plenty of places with good wine lists in Dublin. You only have yourself to blame if you went to Mulligan's expecting a selection of wine. Why you weren't at Patrick Guilbaud's is beyond me.

Oh shut up Alf, this whole tread is based on complicating the most natural of things like dating. Comparing notes on how you go about it. Pathetic.

Your last post suggested you had no idea what a date actually is.

Has it been a while? You seem frustrated.
