Grogans. If your potential future better half doesnt like the toasties and roasters then you should dump them immediately

I like Cafe en Seine, its a nice looking place that makes me look slightly sophisticated for suggesting ( I'm not :o ), there are quieter less busy areas upstairs to chat plus from up there you can look down and make funny comments about the other pioneers :pac: I'd usually leave before the loud dance music starts.

    Pmacs or Cassidy's.

Get to know your date over a game of or Jenga.

A great way to fill those awkward silences at the start.

If it goes well, do a bit of the flirting thing by making faces when it's their turn.

Blowing air in their face is acceptable.
Rage quitting because they are cheating is not.

Don't think I've ever had a first date in a bar. What's wrong with a walk in the park, a visit to a nice museum or a date at the pictures?

Grand for the over 50's :P

Summer is just around the corner. Few cans of Dutch sitting on the boardwalk. If you're hungry, Apache do a student deal for a fiver. Sorted.

If she aint into that, she aint the one m8.

    Finches Neilstown

Damn good pub! Don't let the reputation put you off. Good barstaff, decent pint and always a bit of a laugh in there.

I don't know about a pub for a first date. The nerves could cause awkward silences, which lead to more nerves and more awkward silences. I prefer to do something first like a walk/cinema (a crappy horror is good) then end up in a pub so then at least there is an ice breaker.

If my date coincides everything fun with drinking, we probably wouldn't be suited.

t on a first date once. It was really nerve wracking and awkward.

Since then I only ever go on second dates. Much more relaxed and easy going.

One date less before the ride as well. Win-win.

Well so do I. Great pub. Great crowd.

Ah sorry. I didn't mean for my post to come across like that. *embarrassed face*

The Hacienda isn't too far from Dice and it's a little gem :)

Friend of mine was telling me he brought a girl out on a first date recently for a carvery dinner! She loved it. Keeper.

    Go for a kebab.

After the two of you struggle through the impossible feat of scoffing a gooey lump of horse-meat whilst maintaining that first-date sense of mystery and decorum, anything else will seem like bliss and you'll have bonded over your mutual strife.

(Plus, has anyone ever actually watched someone eat a kebab sober ?)

Sophisticated? That place looks like a 'high-end' brothel!

Imagine the embarrassment though if you bring a date there and then Shay doesn't let you in!

Frank Ryan's in Smithfield. It's so dark in there that you can barely see your pint on the table in front of you. Useful if you're a mutant, or if the person you're meeting is a swamp donkey. After a few pints it won't matter and you can move on to a serious discussion about the possibility of doing the old beast with two backs.

On my first ever date I arranged to meet her at an abandoned quarry

    She didn't show up :(

It's only just now that I'm beginning to realise why

You can't beat an old mans pub on a quiet night for a date I find.

You will be the youngest guy there, the most in shape, and probably the best looking!

You will have no competition and her eyes won't be wandering!

I''ve always just walked in so I don't know, you'd be better off giving them a call.

What I can tell you is that it's a really nice place, the cocktails are top-notch and that your wallet will hate you (but cocktail bars are never cheap, are they? ).

Ha! The Mezz….. Gas! My distinct memory from there is from about 15 years ago. Was out on a Thursday night with friends and ended up in there. I was so drunk that I got approached TWICE and asked if I was selling drugs. Which I thought was quite strange cause surely the people selling are the ones that ARENT off their face?? But perhaps that’s naïve? Haha

I second The Bank on Dame Street, it’s a nice spot. Bit of character and comfortable. Can be very busy at weekends though and hard to get a seat.
I was actually in Dakota one Wednesday night with a friend and it was TOTALLY date central!! Haha – just pairs of people all over the shop! Baggots Hutton is a nice spot – feels like a little secret so that adds a nice element.
Grogans is good too. I think I’d be more comfortable in a real pub type place for a first date than a fancy bar….. Don’t get me wrong, I like a fancy oul cocktail in a bar, but I that’s where I go with my girls, not my man….. [/sexism]

I actually don’t mind a pub for a first date, it’s easy to chat, but I would never organise a first date for a Friday or Saturday night, personally. Def not cinema for first date. It’s too awkward.

went O'rileys under Tara street dart station for a tinder date a while back, would recommend for a date, went around 7pm or so, was quiet enough to have a conversation , good lighting / mood.... Don't go there on Monday for a first date anyway, unless yer both happy to be knocking back shots for the night. Monday is "cheap ass Mondays" there its always wedged. Serious craic but but not ideal for conversation with someone you've just met sober!

I'd rather have a date that involved my penis being cut off than surround myself with the vacuous w@nkers that frequent that place.
