Yeah I do. Except for when the delivery guy deliberately takes forever to fish out the change in the hope that I'll say "ah just keep it". Nope. I'll wait all night for every single cent of my change. I hate when they do that.

I'm never able to tip in my area. The delivery guys hand me the food and leave so fast that I never get the chance. I've been trying for ages and still no success. And I live in a nice area! It really seems like they just don't expect any tips.

Back in Ireland I give a couple of euro if I happen to have cash on me. I always pay for takeaways by card.

I do and I don't. I hate the ones that make looking for change an ordeal. They get f*ck all from me. Off licence delivery guy always gets a tip,he reciprocated around Christmas time when, along with our usual order he threw in 13 cans of grolsch that had a best before date of Dec 15. The chap himself doesn't drink as he's a follower of the Islamic faith. The beer tasted fine,a lovely gesture on his part methinks.

i find it hard to reward poor service. i wouldn't tip in every situation. if its late and the driver is an asshole, then nothing. but 99 percent of the time the drivers are nice lads, the indian ones especially, always smiling and friendly. i mostly judge it on the manner of the driver.

if its more than an hour late and no apology is given, i cant tip that, sorry.

i hate when they ring you up post order and tack on an extra delivery charge. they often aren't even consistent with it. they just randomly decide. and they often don't tell you until drivers at the door.

the younger lads ive dealt with never fish for tips and even refused one before.

i completely understand college students being tight with the tips. that couple of euro could pay for their lunch the next day.

Yeah I do. I'm an incurable tipper, a few years stateside means I get a horrible case of the guilts if I don't.

Plus it deters me from ordering takeout most of the time. Bloody cost of it

    Yes. 2-3 euro.

I don't like tipping and don't believe in the culture of being expected to tip but this is self interest. The tippers are known to the drivers. We tend to get takeaway on Fridays. They know my address because I tip every time. So my food delivered very fast and I don't get a call from the drivers because they are lost.

    Self interest.

You do know that the drivers dont cook the food......would you prefer them to arrive early with a bag of uncooked muck

As for smiley friendly indian drivers i'd be asking **ok...what have they done to my food?**

My mam tips her favourite take away purely because of this. she never waits more than 20 minutes from calling in the order, to eating the food.

As for me, I usually tip 2-3 euro. Any delivery driver I've worked with or known always got half of the delivery charge and a fiver an hour, so I feel bad for them working for such crap money.

Dont forget their dole money too.

I would only tip the delivery driver my change if it was 2-3 down from a note. But I have a terrible habit of doing this. I tipped my barber a fiver this week and gave a tip to the guy you pay in the car park. Maybe i'm too generous?

I think you should, drivers rely on tips as the pay is really terrible, like €25 a night plus delivery charge. But €25 a night is €5 an hour! Now before people chime in on minimum wage etc this is cash in hand gigs for chippers/chinese, no contracts, no employee number, nothing.

Know one very busy Chinese in Rathmines that pays drivers 20 a night, €4 an hour 5 hour shift!

I always tip and I'm always polite.

After all, these folks are bringing food.

I'm always polite but I don't always tip. These folk are employed to bring the food and I assume paid in some way by the takeaway in question.

The American bull**** of tipping everyone just because they open a door for you is stupid. Does anyone tip a nurse a fiver just because she puts a few stitches in for you? What a load of crap.

As others have said, our regular place nearly has the food at the door before we've hung up the phone. The driver always gets 1.50/2 euro. Everyone is happy.

I don't tip everyone but i always tip when it come to food being served, whether that's in a restaurant or a delivery service.

I also tip my barber and today I gave €10 extra to the young lad that changed my tyre because it was pissing rain.

I don't work in an industry that would be generally known for receiving tips but when I do get the odd tip, it's a nice little gesture.

Why though? Over here the restaurant is legally obliged to pay the waitress's minimum wage at least are they not? I do tip myself in restaurants but not any huge amount normally. Maybe a couple of quid. There are people out there breaking their backs for minimum wage with no tips so don't know why everyone would act the yank with certain professions over here.

If its somewhere I regularly eat from I just always tip, especially with delivery drivers. I guess that its partially down to me not having much trust in people I dont know.

I wouldn't like to be regarded as the guy that never tips and then fall victim to the disgruntled driver.

I'm a delivery driver myself.. we work 5 in our restaurant 5 hours per night and paid 30 euro for it.

We don't charge for delivery and instead the shop pays me 2 euro for each delivery and I keep the tips.. it amazes me the amount of people that don't tip especially when we don't charge delivery for it.

Before I done deliveries I thought it was a 90% norm to tip the delivery driver so I always did a couple euro even when their is a delivery charge. I'll be awaiting for the "why should we tip for food to be delivered agenda" from some on here but seriously an odd euro wouldn't go a miss when some spend 30 euro on an order

It's not the best paid job and every little cent helps in it. I do it to help with my other part time job. To me it pays for my kids in creche. It's true if I have 3 or so deliveries to go out with I will go to the people who will tip me first... all drivers I know do this also.

We also have to put up with some crap off people and also plonkers hanging around the area.. being threatened to have my throat slit if I didn't give them money but I just ran into car laughed at them as I drove away..

I can see why some people don't tip when their is a delivery charge but that's to themselves. .. we do it free and sometimes I go further than our durisdiction if their is a request and still wouldn't be tipped..

Agree with above, did it go years ago in college never got grief thankfully but often dropped off to people stoned and or wasted. My experience of tips was, if it was a corporation council flat in the city I was guaranteed a tip, sometimes quite generous 4,5 bob. If it was a multi million euro mansion in Rathgar with several brand new, Cars in the drive the tightwads never tipped. Go figure.

Bloody tippers, no wonder my food takes forever to arrive and it's cold when it gets here.

Yes you said it minium wage. Who the hell doesn't tip 10%+ in a restaurant after good service? There is nothing 'Yank' about it. I live in Germany you tip your bartender, waitress, taxi driver, barber even in fast food outlets you at least round up the total. Naturally you tip your delivery driver when the food arrives prompt and hot. Why the hell wouldn't you?

10% is roughly what I go by too. The only time I intentionally don't tip is when I've gotten bad service. Which is very rare.

Everyone gets paid at least minimum wage which is high enough for unskilled work so they can all get ****ed if they expect tips.

I drive to the takeaway to avoid any delivery tipping scenario.

I pay x as advertised. Why would I add percentages to that and only for some professions and not others?

No chance and I have never had issues with my food. Had a chancer try the rooting for change thing once which he miraculously found so I pay with a card now.
