And I might still be convinced to partake in one or two more trades ... if the right offers are made ...

A quick question though. When writing shows, is it okay to use the names of commentators / interviewers that have not been drafted? Not planning on using them in storylines but more of a sort of greek chorus to better explain what's going on ...

So is it okay to use the likes of Todd Pettengrill or Lance Russell?

Yeah assuming your not going to have them as a big part of an angle or wrestle you can use people like that, I usually use people like Todd or Sean Mooney who nobody will draft instead of just saying a backstage announcers .

Don't open that can of worms :P

Honestly I think this comes up every year and people are split on it. I'm on the side that I'm not going to rate a show based on who a commentator on, so if everyone has JR as a commentator it makes zero difference to me and my votes (I just never mention their names in my own shows). My feeling is if they are just a name used as a commentator or announcer it's fine, as long as they are not used as a character in an angle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,025 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Id say though even if someone isnt drafted yet, theu may still be drafted b some in the future rounds. I know some names not yet drafted have been previously.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 23,103 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Yeah I'd only use someone who def won't be drafted elsewhere. People can write an announcer to be JResque for example but seeing as someone has JR Tia better to avoid them.

I will only really take announcers into consideration when judging someone's roster if it's someone they drafted. For example someone used Shieky as a color commentator one year or how I have Heenan and Monsoon both drafted this year.

Was meaning ask the same. I was thinking of including Sean Mooney as an interviewer/reporter on WWF Primetime or WWF Colosseum Video throwback footage just to brush an added coat of nostalgia to my fed.

Was quite sure nobody intends drafting him. So I hope it isn't a problem.

With these characters it's all about exclusiveity. JR, Heenan, Monsoon have a certain value that merits somebody claiming them as their own for the draft.

Al Snow was on my list for the next round, along with Dalton Castle, my list is dwindling....

Tommy Rich and Austin Idol..... Im delighted to see these guys finally drafted. What a great under rated team.

Great to see Gene and Ole back with Brad, though I almost drafted them for BH since he has Arn.

I def coulda made use of them, almost drafted them last year iirc still happy with who you did give me.

A lot of names going much later this draft like Bob Sapp in rd 13 is a bit of a steal, the man is a Beast!

I remember his story with lashley well, and I referenced his "prison time" when I drafted him the year though never used him in an actually match except for interference.

There really is so much history in the draft with some picks although unless it was a huge standout angle or in the BWA (or I suppose my draft rivals MNG/WECWF) I probably won't be referencing it this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

This whole process has been more enjoyable for me than I ever thought it actually would be. I've lots of drafts of shows knocking around on my desktop here but have to cut some now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,025 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Its my 3rd year doing the draft and I can honestly say its one hell of a fun game.

In 2014 I signed up after seeing the previous years draft and said why not. While the drafting stars and deciding who to pick can be fun, the real enjoyment starts when the evaluation thread opens.

I love writing my shows, coming up with angles and match ideas for feuds and most of all reading others work. Over the last few years I’ve had a great time reading some of the most ingenious and creative wrestling writing around.

From Jeese Venturas off the wall character last year (an embodiment of the sexist male dominated 80’s ladies man) to MNGs portrayal of Tom Billington becoming ultimate bad ass heel The Dynamite King to AJ Lee doing her best single white female stalker impression in TBCs all-female fed, the draft brings some of the best characters ever imagined to life.

This year we already have some great ground work set for future write ups and we still have a lot of work to come from others who haven’t posted yet. With plenty of seasoned drafted veterans bringing their A game and with plenty of new guys to the game this year who are already posting great write ups, I’m predicting this could be the best year of the draft yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,429 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

Yeah I'd agree. There was a bit of a vibe last year of Draft fatigue. Whether it's the new guys or what but I certainly am buzzing to write my show this year and read what is produced by others.

Thanks to BMG for making my pick. Delighted to get Idol and Rich so late. As beakerjoe said a tremendously underrated team.

    Some more feedback:

    DM_7 -
I enjoyed the way you set everything up with the press conference. You got over the main angles and left a great final moment which leaves me eager to see the triple threat. I have a feeling Piper might be the star of your brand this year.

    Shag -
I thought you did a terrific job outlining where we are in your fed and I'm digging this alternate history-type story you're developing. Jack Swagger looks like he will be a very interesting character and I'm keen to see what's in store for him.

    LeeJM -
I like the mysterious He story you're doing and I'm intrigued to see how it will unfold. I also like the way you introduced Taz with a strong debut. I look forward to seeing how AJ responds to this. I'm also keen to see the future interactions between King and J.R.

I'll get to the other ones soon.

My feedback on some of the shows so far. Haven't gotten round to reading DM7, LeeJM's, Shagnastii's or Cheese's yet; hoping to get a bit more done tomorrow as well as posting my 1st episode which is almost finished.

    Stereomaniac
I liked your reference to a tournament in Brazil to crown Bret as champion in the preview & kicking things off with a Last Man Standing match between Hitman & Big Show is a big start.
Big Show went over strong & it'll be interesting to see how Bret reacts. Also quite an interesting decision to have one match be the entire episode but it seemed all the more important for it.
I'm sure the commentary angle risks rubbing a few people up the wrong way but I did think it was funny.

    Brianregan09
Great to see Raven placed in a strong position immediately and a potential promo battle with Heyman & his client should be good. Apollo Crews being undefeated makes me wonder if he'll lock horns with Goldberg down the line and sets up your episodes nicely.

    Necrominus
I loved your use of Kane throughout the 2 shows and the addition of Pete Rose & Disco Inferno makes for great comedy. The Cena promo felt very real so kudos on that and Hardy is a good opponent to solidify a Cena heel turn. You've set up 3 potentially awesome feuds with Cena vs Jeff, New Age Outlaws vs Hall & X-Pac and Andre vs Hassan.
    Mr Nice Guy
Your preview makes for really excellent reading & I gotta ask, do you do any other creative writing? The preview set everything up for your roster, from characters & feuds to general atmosphere. And then the 1st episode continued that with everybody looking good & getting fleshed out. I'm intrigued by your plans for Balor & his demon battles, I'm glad to see Axelmania may run wild once more & Ted DiBiase is such a great character whom you've captured well. And goddammit that Edge move was great.

    Lord TSC
Well this is certainly unique to say the least. Could be too odd or it could be great; based on previous years I'd be betting on the latter. As has been said, the Lucha's at the wall is a wonderful image and I look forward to more as the pictures seem to be an important part of your shows this year. I didn't see that Austin angle coming either, him vs Dean would be great & it will be interesting to see how you incorporate more wrestling matches into your shows.

    Paulie21
A short and sweet preview which gives us a quick glimpse at what you're planning. Having Rikishi & The Usos is a good get but having Foley & Funk is an even better one and guarantees your tournament will be exciting.

Russo's a great pick for Walt's roster. There's so many egos that would make for great material

Made my pick, sent the pm.

Needed George back for storyline reasons, think last year was the first time he had ever been picked but he turned out so well I gave him a contract extension :)

I actually have 2.5 shows essentially written up (.5 cos one of them is my preview show which takes the form of a pre-show for the first BWA Raw) just waiting on getting the last 2 rounds picks done so I can post it up.

draw is up for the next round, One of the rules that could potentially be broken in this round (you can only break one of them even though there are a few options if you so choose to do so) is about number of trades and tbh I think only I could take advantage of that given my limit atm although I just wanna state now that I don't really have any plans to do so as my remaining 2 rds picks are what I would consider needs for storyline purposes like Gorgeous George was in this round.

rd 15 will be based on average order so if anyone has been keeping note of the average orders great otherwise ill work that up before I post that one.

Just on that, do we not have a missed pick from mrk to wait for at end of the round too? Or am I imagining things

Nope your not imagining things and cheers for highlighting that I completely missed that he missed a pick cos I guess there hadn't been many comments on that fact in here. I've added him to the still to pick part in the draw after no.20 for the last round now
