If Conan goes it could also give Jordi Murphy a chance to nail down the number 8 position which is where I think he plays his best rugby.

nail down the backup 8 spot..

So if this rumour is true:

    Leinster get Henshaw
    Munster get Arnold
    Ulster get Conan
    Connacht get.... ?

Sad moment for Irish rugby, but a fantastic bit of business by Leinster. That must be one of the only poaches of a front line internationals by any of the provinces ever.

Henshaw's decision, not a poach. TBF would you say the same had Munster signed him?

I'd rather he stayed West but at the end of the day he's a free agent so he can really go where he likes. The alternative would have been to say Connacht or nobody which would have been a dangerous play.

Not directed at you MG, but I'm laughing at the comments online that this is an IRFU stitch up to beef up Leinster. Well if the IRFU were firmly in Leinster's court, Madigan and Moore would still be there next year.

Good signing for Leinster, would have preferred him to stay at Connacht (or Munster :))

Shame he won't be able to be there for Champion's Cup rugby next season at Connacht after all the hard work they've gone through

Leaving everything else aside it's a really outstanding signing for Leinster, we know the pack is strong but we've added a huge weapon in the backline, in a position we really need it, and Ringrose looks like he's coming through at the right time too. I won't say we're back to the golden days but we have a squad that can win in Europe within the next few years certainly. If we were getting a talent like Henshaw from somewhere like Oz/NZ/SA we'd be in meltdown, it's a shame an Irish province has to be weakened for it to happen but from a purely Leinster POV the signing is massive.

Well I'm of the opinion they should have made it difficult for him to move from Connacht.

Conan move to Ulster would be smart bit of business for Ulster and himself. He's hardly going to get ahead of Ruddock or Heaslip but he's good enough to be playing top level right now.

Nagle is a weird one. I would take that to mean we are losing one of Denton or Triggs.

    All so cynical. :D

If it's true then Munster are the only province not to lose anyone elsewhere?

The only province with nothing worth raiding :)

    By doing what though?

Maybe they did do everything to keep him at Connacht. We don't know they didn't at least. TBF these days when foreign clubs are threatening to sign our top players you have tread delicately and not try to mess too much with players (a la Sexton in 2013). It's certainly a far cry from the days when the IRFU lowballed players (particularly at Munster) because they felt the player wouldn't leave.

There's some non-rugby reasons too. Leinster is a far bigger market so there's more non-rugby revenue opportunities. Plus I read somewhere that his girlfriend lives in Dublin.

If Henshaw made it clear he was leaving connacht and the IRFU didnt facilitate a move to Leinster they ran the risk of him going to england or france? Irelands backline for the next 10 years can be built around this guy with the likes of Zebo, Earls, Ringrose, McCloskey.

What's it like to support a team with no real history?

Couldn't Connacht have offered him Sharon Ní Bheoláin instead?

Honestly, this move doesn't sit well with me. I hope it was Henshaw's decision himself. I don't like how many decent Connacht players have left to Leinster.

Delighted to arrive home and read about this announcement. At least we can stop speculating now! Brilliant signing, and lovely news about the renewals too.

Anyone saying it was an IRFU stitch up hasn't been following the story at all.

    Complete bull.

We tried to offer him the Seoige sisters, now that I think of it maybe that's what pushed him towards Leinster

I can just imagine Henshaw shows up for his final stage of negotiations and they have his family tied up in the background and some lad with a blowtorch hovering over his favourite childhood teddy.

The IRFU representative spins around in his chair in a buttoned up grey suit stroking a white cat and in an odd Euro trash accent demands he stays in Connacht...

Then the child burglar from chitty chitty bang bang prances in wearing his Leinster jersey and lures Henshaw into his carriage with a life size poster of Drico and whisks him of to Leinster where he is forced to sit in a room and stare at nothing but Leo Cullens mam until he signs the contract.

EOS made a point on sunday after the england game that maybe he wants to, and feels he needs to, play ERCC year on year and feels he is more likely to get that at Leinster. This has been an awkward season for the pro 12 with the world cup providing huge disruption for several teams who are usually much stronger while Connacht had only 2 [?] players away. Only time will tell.
