Some decent guys behind that XV too. Big areas lacking are 2nd row (especially if triggs goes) and half back.

I wonder is Kirchner around next season.
Don't worry, we're signing Retallick ;) (or at least I keep telling myself we are)

There's a Cian Healy shaped hole in that list, no?

How long has Ross had his contract extended for? Presumably just a year?

Nagle is probably cheap as chips.

I tried to look for Conan's contract details before but could find nothing.

Thornley reported he is in the middle of a 2 year deal

Looks like Ian Nagle is going to be featuring for Ireland in next year's 6N now so. :pac:

Good bit of business by Leinster. He'll be cheap and has (/had) the ability to be a top player.

I was under the impression he was promoted early out of the academy into a 2 year contract starting in the 14/15 season?

    http://www.herald.ie/sport/rugby/athletic-conan-skips-queue-to-first-leinster-senior-contract-30443273.html

It never actually mentions the length of the contract but this is the most recent news on him signing anything so presumably this is the 2 year deal in question?

Unless he signed for 1 year and then for 2 years before this season but it's unusual that there's no mention of it in any press releases.

given the secrecy in recent years.. it's hard to know..

Thornley was fairly clear that he wasn't out of contract this summer though

Are any of the Leinster back row players out of contract this year?

Actually, would contract matter if making an interpro transfer?

    Whats the story with Conan?

All this talk is miles off. He hasn't been poached by Leinster. He hasn't been forced to leave by the IRFU. He has chosen to move to Leinster for his own personal reasons.

He has a long term girlfriend who he has seen once a week for the last 3 years, if he remained with Connacht it would be another 3 years. Majority of his family and friends are based in Dublin too. I believe Dublin is simply where he wants to live his life. Add in the fact that he gets on well with a lot of the Leinster lads.

I certainly don't begrudge him the move.

Don't begrudge the move for Robbie because all you said is very true, but it is a significant disappointment for Irish rugby. The strongest team in Ireland has become stronger through the greatest academy produce from Connacht ever. Also, the financial side of things with 120k salary that would have been spent on an extra player for Connacht now has to be used to replace Robbie. Not having the central contract is a blow to our finances.

I've no bones with the IRFU about it, but the inability of Nucifora to get players moving around to other provinces is alarming. So far it is just Arnold and Ah You. Not great really.

Sad moment for Irish rugby, but a fantastic bit of business by Leinster. That must be one of the only poaches of a front line internationals by any of the provinces ever.

Ah dude he was never going to go to Munster: Leinster fans would be like WTF and Munster fans would view him with suspicion "he's not one of us".

Can I introduce to the concept of "free will" by the way. It was Robbie who lifted up his right or left hand (no idea of his handedness), picked up a pen, put the pen down on the paper, and left his autograph.

Only Ruddock and Van Der Flier, both who have resigned.

Don't know there is precedent for a player switching provinces mid contract.

Only if the player didnt want to move I would suspect.

loyalty to your province is a positive not a negative..

Hate to lose him but understand why it would be a good move.

    Damn Ulster and their "poaching"...

I heard Conan too but won't believe it til I see it.

Could actually suit us long term if he went up there for a couple of years and came back when Heaslip retired (if he wanted to come home in future).

Would be great business for Ulster. And maybe some of the Nucifora criticism will start to subside.

If Conan goes it could also give Jordi Murphy a chance to nail down the number 8 position which is where I think he plays his best rugby.

IMO it would be a given that he'd eventually return to Leinster if this actually happens. Hopefully by that stage Ulster would be in a position to suitably replace him.

Well, it's official. Henshaw to Leinster!

That was fast. He only announced on Sunday that he was leaving Connacht at the end of this season.

Nice bit of business by Leinster.
