Yup, me and all those studies and reports that conclude that they are marginalised and ostracised.

dont think anyone denied they were marginalised or ostracised they just lay the blame for it squarely at their own feet.

Gotta love the quote from the article
the Council’s must do something to accommodate them in a suitable location.

And why must the council do anything at all? Have these travelers contributed anything to society other than piles of garbage, illegal activity and very likely zero paying of any taxes whatsoever that ironically would pay for the council being able to help them

Why can they not provide for themselves as this is the life they choose and simply buy their own land to trash? Ohh right cus that would require accepting some measure of responsibility for your own circumstances

So now you don't accept the ESRI or European Parliaments findings, as opposed to merely disagreeing with the cause of discrimination in a previous post?

Any chance of a link to this European Parliament finding?

No society should tolerate a group of people who refuse to educate their children generation upon generation, who marry their cousins and produce inbred offspring, who insist on living on the side of the road, who refuse to work or pay taxes or obey the law, who drive uninsured vehicles without licences, who cheat the social welfare system, who arrange marriages where teenage brides are raped into submission and beaten black and blue by violent drunken husbands and forced to have litters of feral children, people who make robbery burgling and stealing their livelihood etc etc etc.

Then these scum play the victim complaining about how they are ostracized and hire lawyers and campaigners and other bleeding hearts who come from affluent areas of the country who buy into their narrative hook like and sinker.

The people of Ireland, decent hard working people who obey the law and have respect for themselves their society and their country are sick to their back teeth of these parasitic psychopathic savages.

hmmm, do you really not understand what my point was or are you just so combative in this thread that you go straight for the jugular?

    Combative? Going for the jugular?

I think it was you who were swearing in a post to another poster who was simply giving her experience, and you took issue with how she presented it.

We can go back and check?

Jesus I know their community has their problems but that's one venomous tirade there. I mean "raped into submission" and "psychopathic parasitic savages". That's mental language.

because they are legally obligated to do so. didn't we not establish this in the last traveler thread.

wellfare recipients don't pay tax apart from when buying goods. where is the outrage. not paying tax is definitely one issue that cannot be used against travelers only.

because if they tried buying land people would be whining and trying to play the victim.

Which they do anyway but if they owned the land the community wouldnt be able to do anything about it, any other reasons you can think of?

And ideally, if they paid for the land and owned it, they may have more respect and maintain their living quarters.

Did the posters who go on about they should own their own land, they should buy land, they should buy houses live in this country throughout the boom and bust?

    1. Not buying property seems to have been pretty sensible.
    2. Nomadism is a feature of their lives, the whole idea that they should buy land and stick to it seems to miss the whole "travel" part of the word "traveller".

Well the people over at tripadvisor seem to value the opinions of travellers.

Unfortunately the council don't bend over backwards to give me a home of my own specifications next door to my family. For some of us, purchasing is necessary, not simply an investment gamble.

There are halting sites that have had the same residents for decades. Should we throw them families out to encourage their nomadic lifestyle?

you could always rent. yes its dead money, but considering the over inflated prices people were stupid enough to buy, and over inflated mortgages many were stupid enough to take out, unless the mortgage payments were cheeper, then maybe renting might have been a better option. nobody had to buy a house, they chose to. thats fine, but nobody forced them to do so.

well then why cant the travellers rent and then when they want to travel rent in the next place , same as the rest of us have to do . that way they would be able to exercise their culture and have a roof over their heads

well then why cant the travellers rent...

Because, as with other walks of life, they face discrimination in renting houses.

That's nonsense. If you think discrimination is the reason the majority of them don't rent in the places they stop off then you are deluded.

If that were the case then there would not be so many incidents of travellers destroying their rented accommodation.

For clarification, I'm talking about private rented accommodation.

travellers aren't given respect by the general public because the most of them just take, take, take.

they would be treated fairly if they gave something back to the community.

I would love to see how they would get on if they were all on one island with there own shops , pubs and houses and had to earn a living to survive like the most of us

i believe they have taken up residence down ballyloughan now ( a beach area not too far from the airport )

Again a choice they made and yet they expect the councils to provide them with land to make that choice possible?

Yes, this is understood. It is extremely foolish to have anything to do with travellers in any sort of business or private context, because they display more traits of an in-bred, insane and pathologically narcissistic individual than the average HSE employee.

are the general public bigoted toards the average wellfare recipient? after all, some would say they "take take take"

You keep comparing travellers to social welfare recipients. SW recipients are not an ethnic group. They come from all types of backgrounds and situations.
And yes, people are very critical of the type that have no intention of working and happily pick up their free money each week.
