What was the wide count in the end? WP can be awful for wind. Up high and no shelter

Wouldnt call that an awful game. Ye should have came to Thurles last night and I could've shown ye an awful game.

Wides disappointing but a fine effort. Undoubtedly an undercooked Kilkenny side, but we were about ten points better. Gleeson was exceptional even withe wides.

18 wides is ridiculous, 3 different free takers...would wanna get that sorted out.
But the backs were unbelievable, Darragh Fives my man of the match. Jamie Barron had a great second half, brick and Dillon worked hard...valuable 2 points

As I thought. Comfortable win in the end and should have been alot more. Terrible game in a bog so hard to judge anything from it. Gleeson so good and so frustrating at times. He's still doing the same things wrong as 2 yrs ago which is an issue but his defensive side was good. Kilkenny looked like they've little hurling done but anytime you get a win against them is a good day. Dillon,Curran and Shan were poor I thought Thomas Ryan could have been introduced in the second half as he's a scoring forward, something we don't have on the bench.

Is that because Tipp won by 14 points?

Yeah it was an awful one sided game with no intensity. Dublin were shocking.

That was the consensus around the Tipp people I was with at that match too. Some outstanding score taking by numerous forwards on the Tipp team and remarked before today's game that it was something we could do with.

If you're looking to be offended I'm sure you'll find good reason though all the same. Did you think it was a good game yourself??

Just a remark on today again, as puke hurling has already been churned out. All of Waterfords forwards scored from play bar Brick. We had the only clear goal chance. And the pitch was absolutely atrocious.

No I didn't think it was a good game but there was aspects of the performance I was pleased with. Tipp could only beat what's put in front of them. Either way I wouldn't be getting carried away but come championship time id be very confident we'd have Dublins measure again. Todays game was certainly no classic but having the worst co ground in Ireland lends itself to puke hurling even more so than normal.

A win over KK never something to be sniffed at. Difficult to read much into it given the state of the pitch mind.

14 scores, 18 wides and about another 5 or 6 shots dropped short show just how many scoring chances Waterford got, although to be fair, maybe as many as 10 were long distance 'hail mary' type efforts. 2 points in the bag, 2 more wins should ensure safety and a quarter final place.

Great win...as for the puke hurling...I did think both tried to make the best of it

Waterford in particular seemed to be targeting the kk full back line with quick direct ball (with limited success) in the first half espially...if this amounts to puke hurling I dunno what people want

We will beat Cork next Saturday night and will beat Dublin also. It was very interesting to see how animated McGrath was during and after the game whereas Cody seemed as if it was a challenge game he stumbled upon on the way back from work!

Wouldn't be counting our chickens yet and saying we will beat, we should beat both Dublin and Cork if we play well but who knows if we keep getting a wide count like we did today. A great start for us imagine we will certainly be avoiding relegation anyway.

Naturally, jason Forde in particular was outstanding.

No but I dunno who these people expecting classics on the first game of the league in earlier February after two months of hard rain are.

I don't theres a team in 1A that wont have the Dubs measure this year to be honest they look septic and it's no real surprise with the loss of Sutcliffe and the fact that Cunningham has failed to get two outstanding UCC teams out of theIr group in successive years suggests he is a poor manager.

I agree its a deplorable ground, but having good county grounds doesn't win you matches. I doubt Semple Stadium is much consolation to you on days when Tipp are beaten.

For intensity and an actual contest, the Waterford Kilkenny game was quite a bit ahead of the other two, that's not Tipps fault of course that Dublin were awful.

Good win for Waterford. I thought Kilkenny might have been better. One thing I noted was the amount of hail Mary shots from Waterford. With so few up front and more around the middle of the park it lends itself to more long range chances appearing. Would it worry people that come summer, these long range chances will still appear but remain low % and the lack of forwards leading to lack of goal chances will cost them again?
I think in last year's munster final ye had a lot of long range chances too but ultimately fell well short? Just a thought.

Think there was chances in the Tipp game that should have been taken. Same today but agree the 14/32 scoring chances statistic is false as plenty of the 18 wides werent real scoring chances.

Wouldn't be judging any team on goal chances there today in fairness it wasnt conducive to it. Only 3 goals in 3 games this weekend so not like anyone was racking up a lot of chances.

Ultimately, a strategy and utilizing possession in the middle third and creating a goal getting offense is the big development needed this year. But far too early to be making judgements on how that will materialize.

Today was about getting the result and they did that well. Another win next week would give them scope to try a few things in the remaining games.

Best Valentine's Day ever for me and I'm single lol. Although kilkenny were not themselves a win against them is always great. Numbers 1-6 on our team are some there best defensive units in the country if we get a solid goal scorer an all Ireland is not too far away.

Cork next Saturday will be tough and a must win game for them. I'd take a victory away to tipp over cork. Hopefully 2016 will be a year to remember

No Cork and Tipp both away then Dublin and Galway at home to finish, hopefully we will be qualified for the QF and no worries about relegation before the Galway game

Well done to Waterford today, easily the better team and deserved winners.
Austin Gleeson is an absolute joy to watch btw.

Good win. As Kev said, its not to be sneezed when you beat the cats. Anytime you beat them theres always the few comments like; 'oh cody wasn't too bothered about it 'or they were only at half pace, or team holidays etc'. B*****cks to that anytime you beat them you earn it and are made to work damn hard and yesterday was no different so while no need to get carried away this was a big milestone for this youngteam. Underage level in recent years weve beaten KK at minor and colleges level and theres certainly no fear factor there which bodes well for the future.
We were no way near our best either and still managed to grind out the win so that is promising in itself.

he very athletic and unbelievable ability.

but once again his decision making was called in to question, stupid pot shots and running into blind alleys, we have seen too much of this now, time for the penny to drop for the lad

I wonder will the penny ever drop with Austin. He's young, but he has a lot of miles on the clock. I'm worried he might never learn. Still, what he has can't be taught. Watching him gallop from 45 to 45 in the 60th minute like it was the 6th minute . . . a horse of a man.

Pulling away fro no less a player than Cillian Buckley - on that ground as well - he has sensational ability.

Can he learn - he must be after listening to it after every game last year and here we are after the first game this year and again Derek has to give him the same talk, either he doesnt listen or the stupid decisions is him returning to a default setting when under pressure.

I worry because he got burned as a minor when we drew with limerick (eventually losing the replay) when he ran 70 yards and left a hole in the middle and limerick caught a goal... we lost the replay, if that wasnt lesson enough for him I would be concerned!

A 20 yr old bullying the greatest physical specimens the sport has seen (albeit they were undercooked) for 70 minutes. Wayward shooting and some bad shot selection, but he was immense and to be honest I for one am delighted he is wearing a Waterford jersey. Long may he wear it.

Who here is good enough to tell him what to do??
While it's hard/frustrating to watch (remember that minor final)...

There is nothing worse than a person of less talent telling someone better than them what to do with the ball
