An Post not delivering Parcels

I keep getting Sorry we Missed you notices dropped into my letterbox. Tired of having to pay for a taxi to collect parcels at my local delivery Office Carlow Town. Route No 305

I'm at home at the time waiting on parcel to be delivered each time.

I have no problems with any other Carriers when buying items from Amazon.

Just a case of bad luck with getting DHL/An Post as a Carrier.

Rang on post to make a complaint and also got in contact with Amazon.co.uk. As was assured by both my parcel would be delivered yet have not received my parcel.

Just back with talking with Amazon chat support which they reported

"I have tracked your item and see that the carrier has updated us that the delivery was put on hold as per your request. "

Customer decides to make a complaint about poor service. Local Delivery Office decides to but the delivery on hold not requested by me.

    Shocking Behavior

afaik you can arrange with the depot to put your package back out for delivery, but if they're playing silly buggers delivering it first time around it's hard to know if they'd put more effort in the second time

Op get yourself an An Post Delivery Box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 148 ✭✭cocaliquid

The item is 50X120CM most parcels would not fit in that toy box

I experienced the same years ago where I always got a "sorry we missed you note" in my letterbox, some as early as 0600 am in the morning or some put in there together with the rest of the mail by the standard post man.

After several complaints to AnPost and the regulator with evidence they changed the contractor that worked my route and ever since, my AnPost parcel delivery guy is the best.

In the meantime while they investigate what is going on, you can request a re-delivery here: https://managingmail.anpost.ie/redelivery/

It's free of charge (used to cost 3.50) but it does not guarantee when it will be delivered, it can take 2 days.

Maybe best to let AnPost Customer Service re-arrange the delivery tomorrow for you giving that their contractor messed up?

Did you have to supply video evidence or something i guess?

Why have you not confronted the postman/delivery guy when he is sticking those "missed you" notes in the door if you are at home waiting?.
That is what I would do, just as he is putting it in the letterbox open the door and say "I'm here ya dozy B*ll*x, how the fcuk can you miss me?".

is your post delivered by bicycle or van?

Cycle deliveries don't do parcels, they would be delivered by a van.
One route would deliver the parcels / packets that are too big for several cycle routes. so the issue is either there is no one to do the parcel delivery or the person doing it is telling the postman (cycle) to stick the notes in the door.
I've seen it happen a thousand times over the years, the driver couldn't be bothered going all the way out there (anywhere out of the way) just for a p*xy parcel (not my words), so will you (cycle posty) stick a note in yer mans letterbox for me.

I've seen it elsewhere when the apartment box has postboxes in the foyer, the regular mailman as above just drops all the dockets and then residents collect from the pickup point as necessary. They know 9 times in 10 nobody will be home at 2PM when they pass so they don't bother attempting.

We have a postie that knows us and knows where to stash parcels if we happen to have nobody home (rare enough). Totally against regulation but dead handy.

I've had a few over the years ask the same, most are genuine people but 1 person told me they were expecting a delivery and that they won't be there but are desperate for the item and would i please leave in a designated place, which I duly obliged only for them to say they never received it, then proceed to tell the dsm that they never asked nor gave me permission to leave the package, That situation caused me a lot of grief and hassle and that 1 person ( they suggested to the dsm that perhaps I stole the package) created a very angry and paranoid postie, I guess you live and learn.

An post run the worst delivery service ever. They forge our signature for our registered mail and pop it in the mail box. They left an iPhone six on top of the mailbox two weeks ago and forged our signature. The courts rely on these signatures to make Judgements. The fact is the signatures mean nothing. An post deliver green leaflets instead of the parcels even though we are there from 8:30am to 6:30pm. Our CCTV shows the postman arriving on a bicycle at around 7:30am. I doubt he has the parcels as often they are heavy. I reckon he just has a fist full of green leaflets for everyboby. I'm guessing Mr Postman wants to get finished up early to have the rest of the day off.

That makes sense ok. The weight would be way too much.

Having to pay 10 euro for a taxi to pick up a parcel. I paid postage for is fraud by An Post there getting paid and not delivering a service.

Going to stop using Amazon really not worth it. If They continue to use An Post.

Funny thing is I'm the first Apartment in the building. How Lazy can an employee be and continue their employment.

Of course Amazon use An Post, they're the national mail carrier.

Its three months later, if it bothers you so much chase it up with the postmaster.

I just received a complaint from a suppliers. They posted us samples on the 20th April 2016 from the UK.
No sign of the parcel. It's now 12 May 2016. I explained to the supplier that there is only 50/50 chance n Ireland that
we will receive a parcel via An Post. He must use a private firm. He was quite shocked. He said it's 100% reliable in the
UK in his experience. I felt a little jealous.I explained the service is like Kevin Costner's film The Postman or at least that
is the service levels we may one day reach.

It would make sense for mail from other countries to be handled by private firms so companies
in ireland can use working foreign post services without An Post keeping the goods.

was the parcel tracked? How do you know that it wasnt royal mail that lost it? and where are you getting your 50/50 chance from? thats just ridiculous.

    Hi ohnonotgmail

The 50/50 chance is my direct experience.

For every 10 parcels send we generally receive 5.
around 2 are returned and 3 are never found. This
is Ireland to Ireland. You are correct that Royal mail
may have lost the parcel from the UK, however
speaking to UK colleagues Royal mail have always
delivered ok. They say 100%. This is why I believe
this weeks loss is on this side of the water. This may
not be the national average. Maybe Glenageary sorting
office have more problems than others.

Another An Post green leaflet was popped in the mailbox today by the postman on his bike at 7:30am.
Even if we were here at 7:30am I seriously doubt the postman has the large parcel stuffed in with
all his letters in that little pouch (we see him on the CCTV). I think I'm beginning to like Irish water
more than An post. Even if you paid An Post twice I doubt they would deliver the goods.

Royal Mail parcels do not come via An Post, mostly GLS.

In about 8 years of ordering several items /mo online I've only ever had AP lose one package, a smartwatch, which they RTS'd 3wks later. Thats a failure rate of maybe 1 in 300. If you're actually seeing 50/50 then either your local PO is a sham or your address has a problem.

For gods sake a lad put puzzles in the post and AP still delivered them.

So you recko 50 out of every 100 parcels sent by an post donlt get delivered. WOW - what a statement.

    What is it based on?

I send about 300 parcels aweek via an post - we had ONE lost parcel last year and it eventually turned up, - the address label had come off.

So for us we have a 99.99% succdess rate.

As for 100% reliable in UK - reliable my arse. Royal Mail are overpriced and slow and have had issues with theft in the past *(BBC Panarama 2014)

    Hi VincePP

We ship out our deliveries with Nightline who have also a 100% success rate at delivering. Even government subsidised and over unionised An post couldn't survive if they had a 50% success rate across the country. I suspect it's my local sorting office that are not doing their work but I'm not sure. Hence why I'm here on Boards complaining. My hope is someone in An post will read this and rectify the problem. I have contacted them dozens of times but they never come back to me. I feel if they were privatised the staff would be forced to do their work. If you post me a parcel I feel I will not get the parcel.

    Hi Ed E

I think you are correct. It seems to be a more local issue. We are at the same address for 25 years so it's not as if they haven't had time to locate us. For years we were able to avoid using An Post but lately people seem to send us more parcels with them.

Actually RoyalMail Parcelforce parcels come via GLS.

Royal Mail parcels up to 2 kg send as standard or tracked are coming via AnPost standard post man.

There is a difference in service which is why there are different delivery organizations.
