ok its a big fat Pug 405 but for what I drive, i consider it luxury - very clean, small milage and you will hardly lose after you are finished with it at the the asking price

looks in nice nick, NCTed till March and only 500 notes- maybe an issue with the passenger seat belt looking at the photos but hard to know -

Don't think I'd put here as a luxobrage and more into the bangernomics thread but I wouldn't say no to it. Especially for 500e.
Re the seatbelt, what I think he is doing is that he is driving without his belt which causes the alarm to ring so he has the passenger belt clipped in to fool the sensor.

€500 and taking offers, so yours for €400 or even €350

Very short NCT, but could be worth a punt. If all fails, sell it for scrap (€150) and you would have lost very little. I'd drive it :D

Actually, the NCT is already out on that 607, so it doesn't deserve to be here...

Looks great, best of luck with it. How do you find your steering? I have the same wheels and find the steering quite heavy on mine doing very low speed manoeuvres, like turning into a housing estate. 2 years on and it still bugs me somewhat, do you find the same?

no not at all the steering is quite light a lot lighter than previous 5 series on 17'' rims and a hell of a lot lighter than the mrs E90 3 series on 18'' rims

only gripe so far is the steering wheel is really solid compared to old E39 sport steering wheel . the way i rest my arm on the window and against the steering wheel is uncomfortable . but other than that i love it

I suppose it's all relative, what I find heavy you might find light. Well wear anyways!

Possibly. I can quite easily move the wheel with one finger at low speed if that helps . Id consider that fairly light .

You dont know what "aux engine heat" is for in the idrive menu do you ? Its in the climate section under extras

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,653 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

Its the auxiliary Webasto heater, you can set it to heat the coolant and cabin before you get into the car. Needs to be below 5 Celsius, have enough battery charge and enough fuel to operate.
I could probably turn my wheel with one finger, but certainly not easily. Might be worth looking in to.

I wonder if I may ask about the hybrid lexus. Do the batteries in these cars wear out, and if so, when, and at what cost?
    I'd be sorely tempted.

You can replace the batteries if they do and it's a DIY job I have a link to a guy in Cork that done his own. Go for it you won't regret it trust me!!

Yep as above. It's not economically viable via lexus if talking about a car worth small money but they basically replace the whole battery unit.
A single cell can be bought on ebay for 30 or 40 quid. There is abit of work in pulling the battery out. Im only going from internet diy guides but there doesn't seem to be anything difficult involved.

Tidy looking S-Class with a good bit of tax and test.

Jaysus. Get it for 1800 minus the 300+ tax still on it and it is effectively a €1,500 car

I don't even have to look to know that a car like that in similar condition with as low a mileage is worth the guts of 10 grand on the continent...

In loco-land perhaps. It's worth about 4-6k depending on a lot of stuff.

Don't be a dick. Low mileage in very good condition it is worth well north of 6k anywhere in the world, which is not substantially off the guts of 10 grand.

I would have thought as a mod you would know not to attack the poster.

Anyway, I cant see anyone anywhere paying anything like 10k for that thing. If you can show me a few at that price, then fair enough.

Much less mileage and a year newer and also a Diesel which is more popular and much cheaper to run.

Same year, wee bit more mileage.

    7k.

    2003.

Low miles (87k miles), great spec (nav, xenons, heated seats)

But the most important part - it's an S500.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,181 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Will we agree to agree so? 7k is a bit more than 4-6k and it is not far off the guts of 10 grand

Did anyone miss the point I made about coming up with a very rough figure without having a look?

    Well, kinda agree and disagree.

It will be more expensive, I'll agree with that, but for different reasons.

    1. Low mileage will be much more rare in Europe and Germany due to a better road network than here. In mainland Europe, 100k miles is actually considered well below average.
    2. It's a LHD market and these cars can be sold all over Europe and most of the world frankly.
    3. Mainland cars will have better spec 95% of the time.

So I agree it will be more expensive, but a 2002 S320 in boggo spec is nothing special in mainland even. Try the 500, 600.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,181 ✭✭✭✭unkel

I reckon we agree. The W220 in the above post is a great bargain. Surely everyone can see that. I was the first to acknowledge the post by thanking it and replying to it. That said, the car wouldn't be for me. If I were to pay max tax, it would have to be yet another V8 (my favourite engine) or something else special

So, I don't mean to be incredibly thick but what's the story on that 7 series having no gear stick? Some photos online show a stick and some don't.

I believe they have a stalk on the steering column similar to indicator/wiper stalk. It has park neutral and drive controlled by moving it up and down. Then there's a button on the tip for park. Similar to the 2006 Mercedes S-Class.
