Back to matters on the pitch. Welbeck lasted 60 mins in the U21 game against Brighton. Arsenal lead 3 - 0 but I don't think Danny was involved in any of the goals.

Another mediocre player to add to the list.

If he can start recreating his England form for Arsenal, we'll be sorted!

It's better to have him as an option, than not....so don't know what you gain from being negative about him coming back.

Unless, of course, you meant the Premier League medal winner's list. He's already on it, so no need to add him.

No I'm talking about the mediocre players in the club and how he fits in.

That is why we are 4th.

And when we were top of the table, what was the explanation you were giving us?

I can say one thing, you didn't say the table never lies when we were on top. You just save that kind of stuff for when we're not. Sad really.

The only time the table lies is when we're top according to most people

Happens every year. Top then 4th.

Seems its acceptable in some fans eyes.

I kind of agree with his comments. There are far too many mediocre players at the club now that would never of been good enough to even make the bench in our title winning teams, players that are starting now. All thats matters is been top at the end of the season and its been over a decade since we last done that.

It doesn't happen every year. I think it happened 3 years ago. Not sure when before then.

Welbeck was good enough for the bench in a title winning team, so pretty crazy using him to make a point.

Its a strange cycle we go through as Arsenal fans. We start off great and start to believe this team are good enough to win a league, then we start to faulter and we realise were actually not good enough. Or else its start off poorly and finish superb, getring our hopes up for the following season and the manager actually thinking were good enough and not investing in the team. Its so frustrating because in some games we can be absolutely fantastic to watch and in others we can be appalling.

If he was so good and integral to Uniteds league winning team they would have never let him leave.

His goal to game ratio speaks for itself.

Mediocre. Good enough for a team like Sunderland.

Bebe was good enough to make the bench in that Utd team. They were managed by the greatest manager of all time who could consistently get the best out of mediocre players. Sure Tom Cleverly was a first team regular in that Utd side that won the league :O

I was talking about our title winning teams under Wenger.

He was alright last year when he beat United for us in Old Trafford.

I'll love him forever for that.

I don't think Ferguson would have let him leave.

He's a bench/impact player, and he still has time and ability to improve. He has a good goal to game ratio for England, so that says something.

Regardless, he's a good squad player. Look at some of the players who have played for United and won titles. Even look at some of the average players that some of the big spenders have outside their starting 11. Your expectations are unrealistic.

There's no reason why Wenger can't win the title with this squad.

I cant see it now. I really think these last few games have exposed us for what we are, challengers but nothing else. We havent scored in 3 games now, we badly lack an alternative to Giroud up front to get us goals but the manager yet again refuses to strengthen this area in the team. When was the last time we bought a 25+ goal a season striker? Eduardo was probably closest to that but injury ruined any chance of him fulfilling that potential.

We have being crying out for a prolific goalscorer the last few seasons now. These sort of players have moved to other clubs while we are twidding our thumbs waiting on Walcott to come good.

Are Leicester contenders? They have also gone 3 matches in a row without scoring this season, ending up with 2 goals in 5 matches.

We are creating lots of chances, and inevitably that leads to plenty of goals.

Mario Mandzuckic, Gonzalo Higuain, Javier Hernandez, Mario Gomez, Alvaro Morata, Carlos Bacca, Jackson Martinez. Just a few prolific goalscorers that were available the past few seasons.

All good players, but I guess if Wenger views Walcott as a striker, then he was on par with pretty much all of them before his injury. It's a shame he hasn't been able to find that form again.

When has Walcott ever ever scored a goal every other game? These are in a different league to Theo with all due respect to him.

Woulda paid his transfer fee alone for us to beat them at old Trafford so he's a good lad in my books

He just doesn't play enough. 13/14 he went at a goal every 180 mins played. 14/15 goal every 90. He just has too small a sample size on those years, and this year he is really in a slump.

Most league goals he has scored in a season is 14. Last 3 seasons league goals read, 5, 5, 14. He currently has 3 this season. He is a goal every 4 game player just like Welbeck, but I think Welbeck can improve on that. Personally cant see Walcott improving.

Last season he only played the equivalent of 5 full matches for his 5 goals. His biggest problem is injuries.

I think it's time to give him a run up front though, time for him to step up.

He turns 27 in March. I honestly for the life of me cant see how he can cut it as a lone striker. He just isnt a natural goalscorer. Would love to be proved wrong.

Yes but until you put a theory into practice, all you have is talk. Is Walcott good enough to be a central striker? Some say yes. Some say no. The point is nobody knows. You stick up front for 20 games. Then you have your answer one way or another. Sporadic games up front and then out wide and then injured and then up front and then out wide......that cycle proves nothing.

Either way, it would be nice to have a definitive answer. Girouds purple patch and walcotts injuries meant we weren't going to see that this season so far.
