Seeking PT with background in functional training / injury prevention (Dublin CC)

    Anyone have any recommendations for a PT as per the topic?

    I have some problems in the upper back and am trying to build muscle, but it can be tricky and having had a load of setbacks previously, I’m pretty paranoid about injury now. I was training with a guy who had a functional training background and was making positive progress, but he has left Dublin.

    Really needs to be someone who has a really strong understanding of the mechanics of the shoulder girdle, scapula etc who can watch me and identify and correct faults and imbalances.

    How do you define functional training?

    All PT's should have a good knowledge of anatomy as it pertains to movement, having said that, not to the degree of a physio with regards diagnosis/rehab.

    My advice is if there are serious issues present, find a good physio who'll work and liaise with a PT, and vice versa.

    Think Pearse St Physio offer PT. as chartered physios they would have the knowledge you require.

    Interesting, I wonder when they started doing that. I was seeing James about this for a while and I've had dry needle from 2 of the other physios there also. I see James does the PT sessions there.

    I suppose someone who can analyse my movement and tailor exercises that focus on improving/correcting mobility and stability. I had a PT doing this and made progress; after he left I went to a PT who basically gave me a generic program on a bunch of machines and things have gotten worse again.

    I might give Pearse St physio a ring again so, cheers.

    The guys in Pearse St. will give you guidance on some specific prehab/rehab work, along with instruction on how best to do them and how they should feel...the hard part is dedicating the time to actually doing them.

    I've referred a couple of people and liaised with Tadhg in there so they'll definitely be willing to do that if you want to go that route, aside from that there's the usually suspects here for PT that crop up depending on your location.

    Think it's James Sherry and Andrew Austin who do the PT stuff in there.

    Honestly it sounds like you just need a good PT based off that previous post.

    "generic machine program" is the lowest of the low when it comes to the work personal trainers should be doing.
