    The 'Irish' part.

But he is Irish. Why is this even a thing for you?

Shouldn't you be off spray painting "Brits out" somewhere?

Such a shame. My folks were 100% died in the wool TOGs and he seemed to be a constant presence in their house.

He was a real broadcasting legend.

    RIP Tel.

He made the Eurovision. I stopped watching when he stopped doing it. RIP Sir Terry.

Was just watching some old Eurovision videos on Youtube during the week and came across one where Wogan comments on some mad Austrian on a unicycle, "look at this ejit here".

A final kick to a horrible January.

    RIP, Terry.

I always thought of Wogan as the grandfather everyone would want to have, an ol codger full of laughs but as down to earth as they come. He'll be sorely missed. RIP

Would the be ultimate line up of an interview should Heaven have a chat show. Lemmy, Bowie, Rickman, St Peters reaction to them all, with Wogan the Helm.

Someone needs to draw a sketch of that!

Hard to take in. A class act, a terrific broadcaster and by all accounts great company for anyone who had the pleasure to know him.

The warmth and sincerity where he signed off for the final time on his BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show speaks for itself.

Heard that at the time and was saddened then.

Don't know why were having onions for Sunday dinner :o

I'm awaiting the FB post from Roddy Doyle...He is always impressive with his chats over pints.

His Commitments main character, Jimmy Rabbitte, had imaginary interviews with Wogan throughout the book and to a lesser extent, the movie. I'd be surprised if he didn't pay a 'Two Pints' tribute.

Shame on anyone bringing nationality in to this thread. It is utterly irrelevant.

Where to start with Terry Wogan. A gentleman in every sense of the word. I've yet to see anyone say a bad word against the man. He never sought or courted favour, rather his genuineness struck home with all who listened to him. He saw the humour in the ordinary and realised that taking life too seriously is a forlorn pursuit.

He will be sadly missed. RIP.

Gaybo gave an astute assessment - Terry had a surreal sense of humour akin to Flan O' Brien. RIP tog-mister.

A wonderful ambassador for the Irish in Britain at a tough time in our history. A gentleman. A character. A wit. An all round great individual who never rose above his station, and yet became one of the best known and loved on the BBC.

I am so glad he went across the water. He did everyone far more service from there than he ever could have from here.

Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.

He could have read out the phone book and made it great to hear. Even Children in Need wasn't the same without him at the helm this year.

Himself and another Irishman, Eamonn Andrews, were easily two of the BBC's biggest stars back in the day. RIP.

British television rather than BBC, Eamon Andrews career highlights were almost all on ITV.

Don't usually feel any personal loss at the death of celebrities, but Terry Wogan is an exception. He was a radio (and television) master, made it all look like a piece of cake, his easy wit and likability disguising his superb professionalism. He could even make the Eurovision watchable, and while it's a cliché, he was also a marvellous ambassador for Ireland. RIP.

I kind of guessed he must've been very sick to miss children in need last year. Very sad news. He always came across as a very nice warm funny and genuine man.

Very true. The Eurovision for most sane people is awful rubbish, but his gentle piss taking was a joy. I can't say he made me a fan of it, but I certainly wouldn't have watched it those 2 times without him being at the helm!

He really was - I bumped into him a couple of times in the BBC car park on Shepherds Bush Green, really pleasant likeable guy - bumped into a few tossers too in those years.

Yes, and in a way that Graham Norton can't quite emulate because he is obviously funny, whereas Terry could switch it - maybe his true talent. I don't know I'm rambling on a Sunday evening ;)

Dara Ó Briain didn't take kindly to Twitter users throwing the words ‘Wogan's heir’ around like some kind of insult.

He was on a chat show a few years (Jonathan Ross, I think) ago talking about making christmas dinner.
"Do you want stuffing?", he asked the wife. And two hours later they sat down to a cold dinner.

You appear to have been confused, O'Briain was commenting about something else entirely.
