I upgraded and then did a clean install so all wiped. Had a HDD image backed up to my NAS which I restored everything from but the save file is in the steam folder rather than user/documents so I didn't restore that, some point after the restore the backup image became corrupted so I can't get it now!

Presumed Steam would back that up but it doesn't. Backs all my other games up.

Yehh i cant believe they havent included that in it. I haven't played it for near a month now because i dont have hunger to put in hours and hours to catch up where i was.

I bought Project Cars today. I've only got the chance to do a couple of short races but my first impressions are very positive. It feels and looks great.

It is a very good game mate a lot of people have been soured from all the early issues and attitude of official forums but for anyone thats starting out now the game is excellent and enjoyable.

Thinking of getting this for the ps4. Does anyone know what the online community is like i.e. Will I get good raves as my level progresses on will I get hammered until I become an expert?

Lads, getting the ps4 version. Would a steering wheel be necessary for this?

    Define "necessary." :D

If you want a realistic experience it's necessary, but the game obviously works with a normal controller.

I've been very happy since I bought a Logitech G27 for the PC a few months back (its not PS4 compatible unfortunately) and absolutely love the thing and the force feedback really helps you feel the grip and every bump in Assetto Corsa. It makes the driving experience feel far more like driving a real car, provided you use the inside view.
I think its pointless to play a racing SIM with the outside view even with a gamepad, let alone a wheel.

Haven't played Project Cars but every Sim Racer will tell you that the car physics and handling in Assetto Corsa are much more realistic and it has far less bugs, at least on the PC anyway.
Assetto Corsa will be coming out for the PS4 this year too.

Theres a good deal on the Logitech G29, in curry's at the moment, it's €220. (which is the only entry level wheel worth buying imo).

    http://www.currys.ie/Product/logitech-driving-force-g29-racing-wheel-black/333828/400.3.0

The optional Gear shifter is €40 but it is out of stock on the site, you could always ask your store if they have it.

It's not "necessary" as you have flappy paddles on the wheel to change gear too, but more realistic for cars don't have flappy paddles.

Apparently you can now use the G27 with the PS4 with this hack. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1125782

You absolutely beauty! I was praying for some kind of firmware hack to make the PS4 recognize the G27 as a G29m but looks like this will do the trick for now!

This is an excellent video exploring all the official wheel options for the PS4:

Yep, got this working before xmas, not too difficult, parts came to about 20 euro online. Works perfectly, FFB is perfect, no delay/lag.
A tip would be to use Ubuntu instead of windows to run the program, less hassle.
Saved myself a few quid on having to buy a new wheel and used the cash to get a playseat in the black friday sale instead!.

Used very similar one on PS3, was'nt good at all imo. Felt it was a waste, much better to save some extra cash and get a wheel.

Where did you buy the parts if you dont mind me asking?

Specifcially the Teensy 2.0, im trying to find the cheapest price for it. :)

Bought Project Cars on the Canadian PSN store today for less than €13 in their Essentials Sale.

Absolute no brainer at that price no matter how bad the ffb and game is! :D

Looking forward to getting the G27 setup with the GIMX hack Tiree posted.

Just have to say that using manual gears on a Dualshock 4 is the most uncomfortable thing ever.

I usually press the triggers with my index fingers in other games but you cant do that if you want to shift manually.

Seriously, a logitech g29 is the only way to go in terms of a budget wheel, its well worth the money. And its a fraction of the cost of thrustmaster and fanatec wheels.

I seriously need to get the hack up and running soon so i can use my g27.

Cant stand the dualshock 4 at all.

It could be the start of a terrible addiction though.

At some stage this year I expect I'll upgrade to an accuforce. :o

    I got the teensy and all of the other parts off AliExpress from China;
    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Teensy-2-0-USB-Keyboard-Mouse-AVR-for-arduino-ISP-Board-Mega32u4-U-Disk-Experiment-usb/32363184858.html
Only problem was it took about a month to get here.

    One of the guys off Neogaff got the one below, its the cheapest I have seen one thats confirmed working and I think the pins are already soldered for you unlike the one I got;
    http://www.gearbest.com/boards-shields/pp_248302.html?utm_source=shareasale&utm_medium=shareasale&utm_campaign=shareasale

    For a supplier thats closer to home another Neogaff user order the one below and it worked okay but more expensive;
    http://www.watterott.com/de/Teensy-USB-Board-v20-ATMEGA32U4-mit-Pins

Let me know if you need any help :-)
Took about an hour tops to build, program and install software.

Thanks a lot for the help! I ordered an Atmega32u4 Pro Micro and CP2102 for about 9.30 + Parcel Wizard from this uk seller:

I've done a few soldering projects in the past so I should be okay, but thanks a lot for your offer!

The hardest part is trying to get the bloody thing to work on Raspbian!

Good find on eBay, should work fine and you won't have to wait an age for it like I did!
Yeah, it's just soldering the pins so nothing too tricky. 😊
I have only set it up running through the laptop. I also want to get it running on a raspberry pi when I get a chance. Will be lot more convenient then pulling out the laptop and with Bluetooth it will save a few extra cables needed.

Im planning on using with bluetooth also, but bought the ttl converteR as it was cheap just in case i change my mind.

What would be sweet is if someone made a downloadable image of rasbian with gimx and vnc set to autostart, so you could vnc to the pi to see whats up.

I tried installing gimx On Raspbian Jesslie lite but it tried to download some extra files from an ip address which didnt exist, something like gtx-lib, and failed to finish the install.

Its a shame as Rapsbian Jessie lite fits on a 2gb SD card, and had no gui so it would be a really nice stripped down version that boots quickly.

Gimx installed fine on the full Raspbian Jessie image though.

I might have a word with Malto about getting an image uploaded for ease of use.

Good idea on uploading an image for ease of use. Hav'nt played around with raspbian myself so would be a big help and take away the hassle of using a laptop

Lads just got the game, love it, proper racing no bull****. Reminds me very much of the old toca touring car games. Sound is amazing along with the force feedback on the controller. Really need to get a steering wheel but will have to look out for one second hand as I can't afford to shell out 200±.

The release date for Assetto Corsa has just been announced today for consoles, coming on April 22nd, so looks like you'll have to buy that now too! :P

Assetto corsa is a step up from project cars. Just as a driving experience it's the best there is.

It seems like Assetto Corsa is to Pcars, what pcars is to Forza. Although the gap between pcars and forza is probably bigger than the gap between assetto corsa and pcars.

I haven't played pcars, but on other sim racing forums where people have both they tend to have abandoned pcars in favour of assetto corsa.

Assetto corsa was intended to be a platform for sim racing that will be supported for at least five years and probably last much longer. Pcars makers have already hinted they're making pcars 2.

It really is all down to the physics though, AC makes sense, the car does what you expect it do to. If your car starts an uncontrollable spin, you'll know exactly why it's happening and probably know it's going to happen before it happens (if that makes sense) because you know you've gotten something wrong leading up to the spin/crash.

I don't know what AC is like on a controler, I don't know how it's physics translates through a controller, but I know through a FFB wheel it feels natural, especially if you drive a car in real life. If you start to study real life car racing everything you learn can be applied effectively in AC.
