    @BEEFY 78

I can only presume you work in Finance & or you cannot emphatise with the main character in the film, who is unable to pay for prescription drugs for his wifes survival because his investment in stocks is now worthless despite the 'sales pitch' of his broker promising high returns. Hiw would you feel if your wife took her life in such circumstances - How many people committed suicide in Ireland as a result of losing everything.
I don't think the film is ott - esp. with the gun culture in American & I certainly consider the actions taken by the main character are a possible future occurance. I'm sure many investors in Anglo who were fraudulently swindled out of their lifes savings, would have loved / love to undertaken such actions.

Would love to indiscriminately murder dozens of innocent people? I hope not many.

Speed test giving 50mb plus download speeds but Netflix only spooling up to 240 playback here in Drumcondra, anyone else? I'm usually on 1080 no problem all the time?

Netflix is being a little laggy here too. Had put it down to being "on holidays" here.

Wonder if UPC or Netflix are dialling back on Netflix speed?

That never was an issue before, do you think flix are clamping down on tourists now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,107 ✭✭✭Technocentral

Surely they'd be ready for that, no one would continue using their service for long if their quality is only half of SD (480).

No idea, it was just a guess on my part. Everything else is going ok for me.

Could be just an issue as above with more countries being added & they haven't upgraded for increase in traffic.

I’ve been experiencing speed issues since before Christmas. I used to always get 1080p but these days I’m lucky if it’s 720p. This on Irish Netflix with UPC.

Netflix use Amazons cloud servers I wonder have Amazon just not put them up to the max at the moment a little friendly competition and all that.

Or it could simple be a Virgin or Eir or whoever having an issue here.

480 is as good as I ever get! It hasn't got any worse for me, travelling or in Ireland.

I've had nothing less than 1080 and have had no issues with Netflix at all lately. UPC in Dublin.

I think UPC does something weird on sundays, sometimes it only affects netflix but sometimes speeds in general fall off a cliff

I'm OK with 720 , but the current half DVD quality is awful

Think it may be UPC in general. Have noticed issues with all streaming services of late. Earlier today Hulu repeatedly stopped to buffer during a 22 minute episode of TV, Fandor automatically streams on the lower settings and if I change to HD it will need to buffer. Netflix will at best show 720 when in the past all three were at highest settings without a hitch.

I found it poor last night too, first thing I watched was at a reduced resolution but I didn't mind as it was a doc, second thing it seemed to pick up but the load times were longer than usual. This was using the Irish site on UPC, never usually have issues and get up to 1080p normally.

I'm watching an old comedy classic today:

"It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world"

It's rare that I laugh out loud at a comedy movie but this really is a classic.

It's a great film, first saw it as a kid in the 80s some time. Didn't they remake it recently?

Going on holidays to parts of E. Europe, they seem to have a really good selection of movies already available there. Am I right in assuming it's because there probably aren't many big channels that would have the movie rights locked down like Sky do with movies in the UK and Ireland? Since not many people in those countries would be able to afford the prices of subscriptions to such channels. Even Netflix's €7.99 would be considered expensive to a lot of people there.

Labyrinth is on most if not all the South American regions for anyone who fancies a bit of Bowie considering the day that's in it :(

The Prestige is on many Netflix regions too and if you're in New Zealand or Australia you could watch Twine Peaks:Fire Walk With Me!

As an aside since it was mentioned earlier, if anyone with UPC/Virgin Media is experiencing reduced Netflix quality during peak times, add yourself to the chorus in this thread. It appears to be a routing problem (see Kensington's excellent post here) which VM so far aren't acknowledging.

I don't know what VPN stands for but if you go on your holidays to Spain and login to Netflix you access the Spain Netflix titles. Same goes for any other country.

f you go on your holidays to Spain, USA Japan or anywhere else and login to Netflix, you access that regions Netflix.

VPN stands for 'Virtual Private Network'. You can use a VPN to fake your location in general. Different apps and plugins are available to do this. ZenMate is a good plugin that can be installed in Chrome and it has an app as well available for iPhone and Android.

I think you'll find that we're not allowed to talk about those. We are allowed to talk about our holiday plans though. Currently I'm holidaying in Canada.

In my humble opinion one of the best films of 2015, Phoenix is on Netflix USA.

Reviews and plot here, I have just finished my nightshift as my bed is calling, but its very enjoyable, hopefully it nabs an oscar nomination later.:)

I'll be cancelling if it happens.

Irish netflix is terrible and theres no way their vision of having the same thing on every region will happen.

    Terrible to you.

Honestly there is a lot of stuff on there. I have been on it for almost a year and there is still a lot of stuff for me yet to watch. Never seen another version but my mind baffles at the thought of even more

    Apologies for that.

I've just rewatched Trivia, thought it was one of RTEs better efforts in recent years. Funny and quite touching.

Watched Say Anything too, to relive my youth.

    Important to note -

Netflix has announced that it has started clamping down on region bypassing.
Video-streaming giant Netflix has said it is going to stop subscribers from using internet proxies to view content not available in their home countries.
Due to licensing agreements, Netflix content varies between countries - many users have a virtual private network (VPN) or other proxy to get round this.
The firm said it would increase efforts in the next few weeks to block the use of such proxies
