    GREAT NEWS.

I've just bought a 1989 Renault 19 GTS in Southampton.

Lovely, I'd love a facelift, the aul lad had one a few years ago.....

But, i was expecting to hear about a Dacia Sandero for a second.

One thing I only noticed recently on the Civic starter button is the illumination gradually fades out just after you start the engine. Nice touch
In case you're wondering, pressing the start button when the engine is running doesn't do anything. I checked, I was half waiting for the starter to crunch but curiosity got the better of me and I just had to press it

Aye I've pressed it too. Was expecting all kinds of bad noises, but I guess Honda are smarter than I am :pac:

Does it not just turn the engine off? :o

If you hold it in, when the car is running it will knock it off! I had a Father Dougal moment in a Civic before. :S

Engineered out when car is moving as if engine switched off at 100kmph steering wheel would lock etc

    Which is kinda bad

Oh right, My mini did that too... id imagine its pretty standard. Thought he meant the button was to start and take the keys out to stop. S2000's do that don't they? Start button is pointless in them since you've to turn the keys in the ignition anyway.

I can't say I've ever had the need to press it at speed to see what would happen. I think you either have to hold it or press it twice when the car is moving to switch of the engine sure I'll try it out on the motorway tomorrow and let you know what happens :pac: the steering wouldn't lock anyway it only locks when you remove the keycard after turning of the engine and I think you have to open the driver door too but I'm not 100% sure on that bit. It's annoying in the fact every bloody passenger that gets in says oh what would happen if I press that ? If it's not that it's the Clifford alarm all you get it what's that thing that says Clifford what does it do what are them yokes on the pillar ? Very annoying.

My auld lad had a 1.9D Chamade back in 1990 and it was what kick started my interest in cars (grim I know).

I've been saying for years I'll get one and this is really as close as I could get to it. Very early RHD and in a very similar spec including no rev counter. I'll be getting it for valentines day :p

Hi all, so I've started preparation of the alloys 2 are perfect so I'll just spray the 2 bad alloys. I've primed one. But I'm wondering how many coats of primer, paint and lacquer should I spray?

Also Should I sand back any of the coats of primer or paint? I've read that sanding it back stops the orange peel affect...

I'd always do 3 of each, but it depends. You'll know when you get full coverage.
I'd always 1500 between each prime but leave the paint alone.
You can polish the lacquer with a decent cutting polish if you want to level it a bit.

Cheers dude, This stuff is really all new to me.. Wouldn't have dreamed of touching a rattle can this time last year. Purely out of fear of messing it up.. So I really do appreciate the tips/advice other members share with me. :)

I'm no expert at it either :) You know to key the surface to help the primer stick to the old coats?

Just to prevent peeling later on if it doesn't get a grip!

Edit: Found an old pic taken with a toaster of the old girl.

NOW YOU'RE TALKING. Bacarra are a great spec to have in them. Mostly all gone now

Rare as hen's teeth alright, we sold that off in 2007, and it was found burnt out 2 weeks later.

Whay NCT for another year - on a side note just a little over 3000 miles done since my last..I know where I'd love to stick my €710 motor tax

710? Yikes that's 70% of the value of my car!

Speaking of tax I taxed the Yaris last year on the 24/1/2015. But the big print is 12/15. So does that mean I don't need to tax it till the 24th which would make it a full year. Or must I tax it now, because the big print shows 12/15 anyone know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

If it says 12/15 on the disc, then one would assume it's out since the 31/12/15

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭RandomAccess

I don't think this needs its own thread, but its worth posting.

Ouch. Doesn't look too bad but I feel your pain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,920 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

The problem is that they are diamond cut and polished face. Since the lacquer is damaged I can look forward to whiteworm taking over the wheel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,158 ✭✭✭✭Alanstrainor

Can you seal it where the damage is?

And the damage isn't bad at all now. Curbs are the bane of my life when parking. The e46 coupe is far from the easiest thing to see out of when parking too.

You should try a 5er Touring. Thankfully it has parking sensors or the woman would have it half demolished by now!

I could try spraying a bit of lacquer on it but I don't know how well it will hold up. The damage you see there isn't bad but it's what will happen from here that's the problem.

Forget spraying for something that small and irregular shaped. You could try a repair pen or painting on a tiny bit with a small brush.
it won't be perfect, but outside of getting this professionally repaired, nothing will.
