It's really creepy and really weird.

Of course I bet all those PC Brigade SJWs want to live in some kind of sanitised dystopia where we're all identical androids and can't insist on repeatedly saying creepy and weird things to people who are clearly uncomfortable with it .

Christ on a bike, Man asks out Girl, Girl turns out to be a lesbian and Man gets fined 10,000 for being sexist.

Enough of the equality already, it's gone too far.

I'd call it stupid rather than sexist tbh.

You're wan has a fine Inishowen name though, well able to handle eejits like your man.

I watched this on the news earlier.
She looked pretty uncomfortable/embarrassed/shocked when he said it and I know his chairman/boss said it was both of their workplaces so it should never have happened etc etc.

But I think its a wee bit out of proportion imo. He didn't disembowel an infant live on TV, he asked her for a date.
Should he have don't that? Probably not his finest moment but one I genuinely think he just badly misjudged and his desire to impress a very good looking woman impeded his judgement.
He got a fine, he tried to apologise(which I hear she didn't reply to/accept).
He definitely shouldn't have done it and seemed cocky even in apology but as I said he came across as a bit of a d1ck and hopefully he will have learned his lesson.

Really cringy and unprofessional but not sexist.

She was clearly very uncomfortable, Id wonder what the media reaction would be if she seemed a bit more comfortable with what he saying.

But i guess he kind of ruined any chance of that happening when he started saying

    Dont blush baby :D

im in australia atm. the media coverage of this "story" is pathetic. i thought he'd grabbed a tit or something going by the way it was being discussed, when I googled to find out what he actually did (none of the news stories would actually say) I rolled my eyes with such force I flew back out of my chair

that is presumably from the team for being an idiot rather than as a fine for a crime

Go find @abcgrandstand on twitter and look for the sound cloud link they posted yesterday discussing this. They brought in 2 female journalists who work in the same field and they outlined how often they have to deal with this kind of thing. It's almost impossible to get through an entire day without some sort of similar thing occurring. One of them points out that the guy in question here is known for this kind of behaviour and has a reputation as a creep/sleeze. She said the woman in the clip was already uncomfortable before the interview even began because of who she was interviewing.

it was unappropriated for TV. But if it happened without the camera's would it really be that bad??! which is what I presume the other journalist are on about

He didn't say anything sexual really. Flirty, maybe ott but not sexual. Unprofessional when you consider she's at work and doing her job. That kind of fine is absolutely ridiculous however.

I'd say it would be far more intimidating off camera tbh

The other journalists list a whole pile of things that they have to deal with on a regular basis. Sports is a male dominated world on and off the pitch/field/court. Women trying to make a career in it have to work twice as hard to even be taken seriously, never mind treated well.

In my opinion it doesn't matter if it happens on camera or not. The point is it's incredibly hard for a woman to do almost any job in male dominated sports anyway and behaviour like this makes it even more difficult. She's there to do a job and shouldn't have to worry about what a man is going to say to her while she's trying to do it.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter if you or I think it's sexist or harassment or not. That woman is clearly uncomfortable and the women ABC talked to say that Chris Gayle is known for this kind of thing, so much so that she's already uncomfortable before he even makes the comments. That tells me it's a problem and not just him attempting to be funny and being misinterpreted.

I just realised if I got fined for every time I was stupid around women I'd be so broke I'd have to sell organs.

Was it really? If a politician is doorstopped by a journalist and is told to F off, can the journalist sue them for unfair dismissal?

YT partner account probably, So not clicking giving views that generate cash for the person. Obvious stuff is obvious click bait to get cash.

Women are too sensitive these days, back in the day you just whacked them over the head with your club and dragged them back to the cave by the hair and they were happy to get the attention.

    She doesn't like men.

surely you cant be expected to track and remember the orientation of everybody you might come in contact with . that would probably a far worse "crime" than this sexism.

    do lesbians not like compliments.

all he said was she had nice eyes. followed by asking her out,.

if he has a history of sleazy comments like this and making women feel uncomfortable then maybe there is some kind of case but surly not sexism.

There is a difference between sexism and sexual harassment. Chances are he's sexist too. The issue at hand though would fall under harassment at worst or inappropriate behaviour at best. The comments other journalists have made lead me to believe it's at worst.

Not sure this link will work..... It did. One of the women gets a bit emotional at the start, please don't roll your eyes and turn it off. Listen to the whole thing if you're anyway interested on having a serious discussion about this. (I'm aware this is After Hours so I won't hold my breath)
