Athletics Ireland should film/video these races if possible they really are fantastic to watch . fair play to kieran carlin he gets a lot of film at most nationals .

Anyone else run the 2007 version, i was 2.5 mins slower in 2015 !, it seemed a bit longer, id put a minute of my time loss down to lack of fitness+a bit heavier ground worth a bit also
Over 2.40 slower than '07. Most of it would be down to fitness or the lack of. I wouldn't say it was any longer than any other year. But conditions would have a big impact

Haven't heard much talk about (or seen much promotion for) the short course xc. Will be interesting to see what the numbers are like; hopefully, it gets support from clubs/athletes.

    Theres a piece here http://www.athleticsireland.ie/news/4k-the-perfect-distance-for-the-new-year
I reckon Dublin clubs will support it, struggling here to pull teams together out west, for various reasons , hard to see more than 100 in mens 60-70 in womens though at best

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,896 ✭✭✭Sacksian

I saw that piece but, other than that, I just haven't heard much discussion around the club about it. And haven't seen other clubs mention it.

Maybe some of the clubs involved in the juvenile races might send teams, but I'm not sure there'll be loads from Dublin.

Entry link only has individual entry and Ai fixtures calendar not working where link was so won't help entries
Can't enter a team at the moment and entries close tomorrow Gah
Promoting and marketing of cross country by athletics ireland should' be on a par with the endless great run , Remembrance run etc emails and posts .
They should email all clubs and county boards re every championship and push entries and people to go and support it
This was brought up at x c forum and needs to be actioned
Also many runners and clubs go for the easy option local five or ten k which many outside dublin clubs are terrible for doing instead of nationals
A bit off the point but it all affects numbers

Yeah, I thought that the whole point of the short course race was to promote XC more, especially amongst clubs/athletes who don't normally do it. Not sure that's how it'll work out though. And I wonder how the league aspect is going to work if senior team registration is not possible at the moment.

The entry link is still there in that AI article you posted:

The Short Course race is cancelled? Don't see anything on the AI website.

    Yes

Not sure if its course too bad or low numbers, any of the Dubs know more?

Pity seeing as we had a fairly decent womens team going up....

Travelling conditions seems a bit weird to be honest.

Could imagine the course being pretty horrific and may have been a factor with getting usage of the sports grounds (Especially after the last big national Cross Country race was held there which still lives in the memory of most)

Imagine numbers probably was the reason for it.

Don't feel half as guilty now for signing up for the BHAA race on the same day.

Never heard the likes of it.

Must be numbers but not having the entry links up overl Xmas for teams did not help. ..Course also perhaps

That course in 2011 was the worst underfoot I ever saw, think I ran 48 min for the ten k , after losing two shoes and going from last to about halfway after that . still enjoyed it though somehow!

We lost most of our runners to Dublin Masters on Sunday as it's more of a target given the clubs demographic (3:1 masters/Seniors ratio) coupled with Christmas we were always gonna struggled for a team in this one.

Still means I can do a 4 mile XC right on my doorstep.

Hopefully there will be a rescheduling though given the bloated race calendar in the next few weeks it seems unlikely.

Still nothing on any AI site - you'd think an email to people who entered might be the best way of communicating its cancellation. A two-liner on a third-party site isn't great.

Not that it matters now(!), but the individual entry link had a note that the first four over the line from club would count as club team.

I seen that up on Lindie Naughton's FB. A bit of a mess. Not sure if a mail went out from AAI, I didn't see anything, nothing updated on the website. I'm sure many Clubs are still uninformed as of yet.

Like others I'm not sure if I buy the 'conditions' excuse. Inters was sloppy in 2010 in ALSAA, it was always likely to be a mud fest. More likely a cock up with regard to entry processing and possibly poor numbers, partially as a result of this. I'd say its been a particular pain for competition secretaries, trying to get 2016 memberships in, runners registered for the year and entries in, all for it to be cancelled last minute.

I'd like to see a race like this reschedule for the end of the XC season, somewhere like the Curragh. A short course XC somewhere where the going is heavy like ALSAA just negates the reasons for having a short course in the first place.

I'm sorry it was cancelled, but it was the day before the Dublin Masters, anyway. Maybe that hit numbers? A lot of O35 Dublin runners would have been signed up for that instead and wouldn't have done another XC the day before.

It's a pity, as I would have done it if it was another weekend.

The only thing that I could imagine would be that maybe there were a few nothern teams entered (Finn Valley, Malachy's, North Down) where there is a weather warning in effect this weekend

Pretty sure that's the end of my xc season - I'll bury my sorrows in some 200m Munich hills instead this weekend!

Planning the move back to the m/d thread now.

Never heard anything like it. Lack of entries, course in a mess or pulled from AI , no buy in from competition organisers more likely reasons .

Are you not doing the Masters' on Sunday?

I don't think so at the moment. We have loads of very good masters so I won't be needed for the team, but I was mainly doing the 4k as a transition to shorter indoor races (and because it's a new national race), which is the focus now - the national novice before christmas was my main xc target so, once that was done, I mentally checked out of races longer than 4k!

Good luck, if you're doing it, btw! They'll be fantastic races.

Can anybody enter these races ? Seems like something to do after the marathon training , are spikes a must or would trail runners do ?

    BHAA open to all

Championship races require you to be a registered member with an AAI club

Some people wear trail shoes but as you get further into the winter spikes are no harm for grip (generally can pick up pair cheaper than normal running shoes)

So if you're an AAI member you can enter all xc races?

    What's the difference between novice/inter/senior?

    Cheers
