That red mondeo is lovely. Great work on the detail. Looks amazing

Thanks Chriity, there are a few swirl marks on it that I need to get out. I'm saving up for a DA at the moment.

The DC5 is lovely, I had my eye on one for a while. I had a Prelude a few years back and loved it.

Thanks I waited a long time to find one this clean so will be keeping it for years to come. Like preludes as well. Was only in one once but was a lovely place to be.

Im eying up a DA myself. Would love to learn to use one as its an incredible skill to have. If I get it I wont be starting on the DC5, the civic will be my little test subject :D

Plans before the DA for the dc5 is fully claybar the car, polish serval coats and serval coats of wax once the bloody rain stops ha

I remember I was at that petrol station back in October while heading to visit Lough Key.

That one in front must be the ghia spec with the chrome trim over the reg. Looks like it's sitting lower or just knackered springs/shocks?

Nice 3 series that. The 320Cd's seem quite rare. You usually only see the saloons with the 2.0 diesel engine.

you would be right in general as I had a 98 demo ghia car with all the add ons but I think the late 00 models came with ghia spec as standard

Looks better without the chrome, imo. What else came on the Ghia model?

    Alloys

    Wood effect dash :pac:

    Leccy windows/mirrors

Tilt and slide sunroof :pac: :pac:

and a couple of poxy badges. Not 100% sure about a/c

There's a lot to be said for picking up end of line models, I remember the N15 Almera I had was just before the N16 came out, so it got electric sunroof, electric windows etc (some other things I can't remember right now). as standard to shift the last lot of models out the door.

Quite a site alright, handy spot for the electric windows.

that was identical to mine, like the window switches there, same on my current car too. Even had head rests on the back seats which were uncommon on that size of car back then. Nice tinted windows factory spec and fog lights, sports grill and sunroof.

for an escort it looked really good back then

    Ghia

Mine has electric windows in the same spot.
Thankfully I don't have the wood dash. :P
Mine doesn't have passenger side airbag or electric mirrors.
OEM radio and clock are slightly different.
Other than that the interior is the same.

BTW didn't look like the Escort in front had a sunroof.

What's the idea behind the clingy plastic on the bonnet and roof. You'd often see it on newly arrived cars. To prevent damage, scrapes etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

Automotive protective film. Bit of a waste really, cars are rarely if ever entirely covered in it and it protects from nothing more than extremely light grit and rain. You can even see in this case its on the bonnet and roof, which is effectively pointless. Makes it look like they're making an effort though. :)

It's generally only on horizontal parts of the car like the roof/bonnet. Bird droppings or other shoite could really damage paint.

I wonder is our man in Co Laois collecting his annual new Ford Focus this year?

More so to prevent fallout from the sky - bird crap, iron filings, etc, as it's really only on the roof / bonnet. Most new cars often spend a fair amount of time on railway tracks and sitting around in dock-side compounds.

My Dad had 2 Escort's in the 1990's, the interior was a lot like the one posted above barring the horrid fake "wood" :D

I spent a lot of my formative driving years driving his 2nd one in an effort to impress the ladies lol. It was a 1996 "CLX" Escort Saloon and was quite a nice car for it's day. Leccy window switches near the gearstick alright which seemed to make sense back then but would be a major oddity today! It had a nice factory stereo - a bigger button double din job, not like the one in that pic. TBH though, when the Focus came along in 1999 the Escort dated very rapidly.

Yep that was it! The early Focus's had a similar unit. the "6000" version had CD rather than tape. How do I remember this stuff...
