I have to disagree, as a 4-0 result is truly shocking, from the same team that beat Man City. If not complacency, then it was naive tactics?

The scoreline was flattering to them, but I would say it's mainly a combination of us having poor tactics when we went behind, and them having good tactics.

Despite all that, things could have been very different. I believe Shane Long was already on a yellow when Kos was tripped...imagine if the ref had seen it and said it was deliberate.

Our main issue was that we had to chase the game, which left us exposed at the back. The pathetic thing is that we didn't create any decent chances.

Southampton did to us what we've been doing to other teams. Southampton shots on goal: 5. Goals: 4. Arsenal shots on goal: 5. Goals: 0.

I found it very hard to contain my anger after that abortion last night. Abysmal stuff. But fück it we got a kick up the arse and its time to move on. Were still in with a serious shout. The course of true love never ran smoothly and our courtship of the premiership trophy is no different.
    We need a CDM asap

Southampton were the first team in the last month to cop on to the fact that if you currently take Ozil out of the game, we've no hope.

Wally and Giroud waiting to be brought into the game, Flamini sitting deep and Campbell fairly raw.

They did a lot more besides but that was the key IMO. I also believe that Arsenal deliberately didn't chase the game too much. At 2-0, you're risking a huge amount sending your last fit 11 out to chase lost causes.

Need Ox to start and go with one of Wally/Giroud tomorrow.

Anyone think Debuchy deserves a run in the team? Think Bellerin hasnt been of his usual high standards lately.

    That.

It didn't feel like a hammering. Thought we were always in it even at 2-0. Was game over at 3-0. Wasn't like they cut us apart or anything.

Goal 1 = Worldie. Very little you can do about those.
Goal 2 = Foul; Long trips Koscielny & they get a massive slice of luck the cross goes through Mertesackers legs
Goal 3 = Chamberlain (again!) not being up to scratch defensively.
Goal 4 = Game was done & us chasing leaving gaps.

It was an annoying loss because I don't think we we're that bad; a little off but not 4 ****ing nil off.

It might put pressure on Wenger to get a decent DMF silver linings etc

6 points from our next two games is a must

Exactly. And if we do that (really, it should be the next 3, as they're all at home) then we will have taken 18 out of 21 possible points. The Southampton match can be a blip, if the players make it that way.

Hopefully it's not a sign of the start of a burnout/downturn in form.

Wenger hinting today that we are not buying in the window.

    LINK?

If that is true then it shows he is totally lacking in ambition.

The Gunners boss downplayed speculation linking Arsenal to Basle's Mohamed Elneny and was keen to underline the quality waiting that will be at his disposal after injury.
"That's always the question you get," Wenger said. "We have many players who are injured and will come back soon.
"Buy, buy, buy, buy is always the solution that people see.

Ozil was constantly moving around trying to find space but was being shackled by both Southampton midfielders, who were running around after him. It just needs a couple of players to cop on that there's space being left (somewhere!) by players whose sole focus is to track Ozil. The likes of Ramsey, Theo and Joel Campbell have to get more on the ball in those circumstances and take responsibility to control the game and I thought they were poor.

Giroud was anonymous - it doesn't matter whether that's his fault or the midfield's but, if he's not getting the ball, push Theo up top and bring on another midfielder, or try something different.

In games like this, you really miss Santi as I'm not sure there was much footballing intelligence out there in his absence. And Arsenal really need a midfield metronome if Santi is going to be out for a while.

Having said all that, the first goal was completely unstoppable; not a fluke, but if he tried it another thousand times, I'd be surprised if he managed it again. And the second was a fairly clear foul on Kos.

Think that Egyptian lad will be signed once the window opens

Its true we have many many players, but they need to be replaced. Arteta, Rosiky, Flamini, Ox, Chambers should all be sold. And replaced with two quality players a DM and a Striker.

TBH I would be in for a defender aswell not in Jan but deffo summer. And Mert should be given a coaching role.

Not good enough for a club like Arsenal TBH, fine if its just to get us to the summer but I doubt it the way Wenger operates.

We are so close to winning the league and I hope it doesnt slip from us because of lessons not learnt in the past.

Agree and i'd add Gibbs to that list. He's not even a good option as a stand-in for Monrael.

    More space for Sanchez then.

You can't mark two world class players out of it. If teams try that then you'd like to think Ramsey and Walcott would be good enough to exploit the gaps left.

    Have you watched him?
You could have said the same for Bellerin,Coq ect..

Going by people who do watch him play he's the most talented player in their squad after Embolo. He's a mix between Ramsey and Coq but a little taller ( 5'11) and bulkier. He has the record for most distance covered in the Europa League this year.
He's helped Basel win the Swiss Super League for the last three seasons in a row.

Truth is big players rarely move in January and at £5 million Elneny seems like a smart buy.

And there's also the fact that £5 million doesn't break the bloody bank! Sign him up, I don't want a Ramsey-Flamini midfield with no replacements for the next two months.

Why would anyone want chambers or the ox sold

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 55,778 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

I hope we do buy him. At that price it would be madness not to.
BUT reading Wenger's interview i'm beginning to think we'll get nobody in.

How would posters feel if we fail to buy anyone in Jan?

He's also supposedly on a much lower wage to Flamini and Arteta.

I like this signing not the same as coq he is young with potential

Also leaves us open to a big name in summer if needed

Jack Wilshere is due back in two weeks, he plays well as a DM for England.

I'd be snapping tbh tayto if we don't make at least 1 signing in the next month. It needs to be done and my loyalty to Wenger will be brought into question something serious if he doesn't reinforce this winter.

Why are you asking that question when its pretty clear we've signed that guy? Bizarre
