TAFS looking even more harsh this morning. Cork has a tempo of 35kts Gusting 54kts at 190 degrees between 9pm-12am. I know operator's don't have headwind limits, but surely that's getting a bit strong for anything to land?

Looks like there will be strenghtening southerly wind ahead of an approaching cold front, perhaps gusting close to 50kts. However, the direction looks okay, but as it veers SSW may be one or two issues.

    Forecast is giving 180 degrees 20kts G 30kts
    BECMG 9pm-11pm 190 degrees 25kts G 41kts
    BECMG 2am-4am 230 degrees 20kts G 30kts.

Looks like RWY16 will be able to handle the stronger winds without problems. May be bumpy and some holding possible.

wouldnt it be a normal night, just every plane is more full?

Slightly more flights, but the delays at Dublin are not due to that, they are due to the use of RWY16.

Isn't it. Lots of action over my house tonight. We don't usually get much low flying action round Naaaaaaavan.

The use of 16 always seems to slow things down, is it just due to the lack of fast taxiways or is a taxiing issue in general?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,487 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

FR449 went around at DUB there.

Edit: Apologies already noted, was not listed before I posted due to a boards error.

    Wind 200 degrees 32kts gusting 46kts.

    Down now.

    Well the Ryanair made it...

I'd be very surprised if it didn't considering the wind.

It's just that with the mean direction at 210 the individual gusts will usually be from a more westerly direction (gusts usually come from the right of the mean direction), meaning they would probably be fully across the runway. When the runway is wet the crosswind limits come down considerably, so we could then be into the territory where a 30-kt gust is at the limit of say a Stobart.
