Most people haven't got clue one about disadvantaged people. That won't stop them forming opinions though.

Care to enlighten us so. Or what.

I just donated money to the Capuchin soup kitchens. Just want to help the homeless out there, wherever they're from. It's Christmas after all

Snap. Thanks for the inspiration :) Happy Xmas!

It's remarkably easy to become homeless.

There just isn't enough houses. Even if you're earning a decent wage, if you get put out of your house for some reason it can take weeks to find a new house, negotiating deposits, landlords and the rest of the population vying for a room.

I don't know how people afford rent on a minimum wage in Dublin.

Minimum wage is approx 330 a week if you're lucky to get your 40 hours. Rent in Dub is between 100-150 a week.
Factor in travel, food, lunches, and all the other costs of living and it's not long before you're in the negative.

I pass about a dozen homeless people on my 15 min walk from the bus to work and it's horrible the conditions they survive in.

How is the government responsible if you have sex and bring a child into the world suddenly everyone should provide for your child and hand you everything for free? Get real. That's what's so wrong with our society. No one gives me hand outs for my kids I work my ass off to make sure they have a roof over their head clothes on their back and food in their belly because I chose to bring them into the world and it's my responsibility to provide for them. I've never seen a birth cert with Irish government or society of Ireland listed as a parent. If you cant afford kids don't have them. Everything in life is a choice.

And if your parents aren't as wonderful as you, then what?

    So saw this today.

What's the likelyhood of a woman being homeless with a young child in dublin.
I'd thought they come top of the priority list ?

Horrible to see someone exploiting a child like that.

was a blond lady with a little girl in rathmines?

You don't get social welfare payments without an address. You can get Supplementary Welfare Allowance by signing on twice a day and as far as I know, it's 15euro a day (which is not enough for food and a hostel/homeless shelter).

I know this because I talk to homeless people every time I'm in a city.

Ever heard the expression "There, but for the grace of god, go I"?

the homeless people are filling you with complete ****e then I am afraid my friend.

Address? the last hostel the homeless unit put them in, if they are on the streets they use the homeless unit itself as their address. I know because I actually deal with the homeless, hostels and care staff every single working day. You do however require a PPS number to apply, not all homeless will have one though.

Dont get me wrong, support charities, support those less well off but please do try and avoid handing direct cash to beggers, food, nappies if you really want to give direct. Personally I will not give to st vincent de paul nor sign up with a chugger on the street but believe focus ireland and barnardos do sterling work and can use all the help they get.

In regards using children, try to remember that if the pickings are richer with a child it only encourages people to misuse them for begging even more thus countering the very reason you put your hand in your pocket to begin with

There are 1,000 homeless children in this country at the moment; what you're saying here might have been true in 2005, it isn't now.

Are all 1,000 actually sleeping on the streets, or are they in Hotels or other accommodation?

I never said I was wonderful. Feeding clothing and sheltering your kids is the MINIMUM any parent should do. If they can't do that they are not fit to be a parent.Kids are not a commodity for hand outs and sorry but the harsh truth is there are some people out there who are not fit to be parents yet they are propped up by Johnny tax payers money and contribute SFA to society except more mouths to feed.

Brother Kevin's Capuchin Day Centre is where a lot of those who are turfed out for the day go. He's a good man and is not on a massive salary either.

It's my go to charity for donations.

I'm not religious in the slightest but he's what I call a Saint (autocorrect nearly called him a sausage there).

If your homeless you present yourself at the Homeless CWO office.
If your genuinely homeless you will be found emergency accommodation
If he CWO or any other party feel that your minor children are at any risk, the Social Workers will be alerted and the children will be taken into care.
I don't know where you pulled the figure of €15 SWA per day out of
SWA is 186 for claimant 124 for spouse or partner and 29.80 for each child.
You don't pay for emergency accommodation.
If an adult is begging with a child it is child abuse and the Gardai need to be alerted
There is absolutely no need for anybody to be begging. It is manipulative exploitation. A lot of people beg to feed their addictions
SW goes nowhere near a heroin addiction
Other people are forced to beg by a controlling partner/family member
Some people beg because there's plenty of easy pickings otherwise known as mugs this time of the year in particular.
If you gave your money instead to your local St Vincent de Paul who are going to make sure that genuinely needy families get help
I'm sick of people using the current housing crisis as a way to drive home the AAA/Sinn Fein/Independent agenda
None of these bodies give a damn about families in crisis
They just want to destroy us
