I will have spent about 400 for everything, food, gifts, days out with the kids etc. I spent about 3000 last year on absolute crap and it didn't make the day any more special so I'm using that money on a holiday instead. My kids will be happy with what they get and we don't need to buy as much food as we think we do.

We have a pretty strict budget for me and my siblings, cos there's so many of us it'd be unmanageable otherwise, so £20 each is the maximum. So, 12 sisters, 3 brothers at £20 each was £300, then my mum got £100 on her presents, my little sister got £90, then I got them all a box of heroes from tesco for a fiver each, then two secret santa's at £35 each, two presents for chums at £25 each, then we always get takeaway on christmas eve, thats £15 odd, a meal out with said chums for christmas is £20 thereabouts, then various going about with family while there here, expenses etc, I'm looking at about £800 for the whole thing. Christ.

Thats insane! Why not do a secret santa with your fam? My mother and her siblings do that and theres only 5 of them

Well, I cannot spend what I do not have. Also my friends etc decided years ago not to give gifts as we all have all we need. But it is different when you have a large family I know. The first year we dropped giving gifts we started funding work with the homeless. As for foodl I revel in the Great Price War that is in full swing now; Killarney has all major chains and is at it now! In fact thus I spend less on eg food at Christmas than at any other time of year because it gets so cheap...stocked up on Cadburys Roses at 4.99.... NB I suppose I cheat as I DO EXPECT folk to spend hugely at my market and craft fair stall.. and they do thankfully. TWO MORE SHOPPING TRIPS!
