If they're going to get rid of someone it should be Paul. He's not right for the show. It's a show about the best amateur bakers. (Although obviously the standard isn't high enough this year!) He's a pastry chef in a 5 star restaurant and he doesn't seem to know anything about home baking. I mean, I'm sure he bakes very well, but he bakes to a different standard. Louise Lennox is a pastry chef too and she's very good at what she does but she's much more down to earth. She definitely wouldn't be taking out rulers or getting them to make gross chocolate glazes using gelatine.

Stick her in there with Catherine Leydon and I'd be happy. Or even Rachel Allen. She'd tell you what's what without being a dick. They don't have to have a man and a woman judging just because GBBO has a man and a woman.

On the other hand, unless they choose better bakers I wouldn't want anyone that I like to be involved with the show.

I'm sad that James is gone. He was my favourite from the start.

I'm glad Emer stayed. I think the three who are left are about the best of the bakers who started out, although I'm still a bit baffled about Natasha being sent home when she was. The only explanation I can think of for that is they reckoned she wasn't going to win so wanted to send her home early to do her leaving cert rather than having her hanging around for weeks only to be dropped just before the semi final or something. I dunno.

I'm not convinced that the contestants aren't good enough in themselves. I think it might be a fair bit to do with the briefs they're being given and Paul being ridiculous about measurements. He's also very inconsistent with what he likes presentation wise. I think they're all getting a bit caught up in those stupid bits, also the focus seems to be more on things incidental to the bake like a pizza base sauce or something. I'd like to have seen what the bakers could do if the programme was being produced and directed and judged properly.

    Final night !!

I hope Emer wins it, followed by Kathy, then Claire.

Claire has to be favourite, she's probably learnt from her mistakes, but will she crack again under pressure ?
She reminds me of the banker from Kerry who won it last year, something not totally likeable about her.

I want Kathy to win with Emer 2nd and Claire 3rd.

Pity stupid x Factor is on for 3 million hours before it and pushing it back to a later time. X Feckers more like.

Not sure if I like the sound of the deconstructed apple crumble, chocolate in with it is just wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

The critics on Master Chef expressed boredom with the de-constructed idea....

    I can't say I blame them....

This is Paul's forte........I most certainly haven't seem Lily shine in this season.

Greetings all! This dessert looks lovely.....

There's a few baking elements in it alright. But it looks like the custard is served cold which is rank.

Apple crumble is comfort food. It needs to be served hot. Or warm at least.

It's stupid. He's just trying to be clever/funny. It's not impressive.

Exactly. It's a challenge for pastry chefs, not bakers. Awful challenge, and developed to catch them out.

:pac: There's no chat between them today. Gone very competitive all of a sudden.

    Lily barely cracks a smile

When Lily was announced as the new judge I was all for her, a new face, a new idea....

I'd never heard of her and, frankly, she has not made the impression I would have expected of a lovely Cork lady.

Submissive would be the word I'd use. I haven't seen Lily shine. Paul is dominating the show, Biddy's giggles were too much but Lily's ambivalence is almost as bad......

I'm also sick of the odlum's (bad) stickie on the jars too...............:(
