Used this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mtorres.phonetester and proximity sensor seems to work fine..when i put my finger over the part at the top to the right of the earpiece it recognises it as near

try this - when you have Pocket screen Lock installed and running on the phone, wake the phone up so its in lockscreen walpaper - then cover the top of your phone with the palm of your hand, screen should go off and then take your hand away from top of phone, lockscreen should show. If you manually use the right power button to put the phone to sleep from the lockscreen then pocketscreen lock wont work (maybe manually putting phone into standby turns off the proximity sensor on this SU6 phone)

Yeah, when I do this, it works..screen goes off and comes back when I take my finger away - but it doesnt lock it, it just dims the screen
I wanted an app that would wake the phone from sleep to the lockscreen..but that isnt possible if proximity sensor doesnt work in Standby, is that the issue?

Any idea why it seems to just dim the screen rather than lock it straight away ?
And an app that allows it to light up the screen to lock screen when I open the case isnt possible?

    Thanks.

I think the problem si with the cover maybe, because when I do it with my finger it does light off..but when I close the cover, it doesnt dim the screen..I can see light coming from undernearth the cover. Quite annoying

try a quadruple tap, seems to a good success rate

Double tap on the home button has a high success rate for me, the odd time I triple tap to make sure :P

Over in Latvia now using a Latvian sim card and all of a sudden it became nearly unusable. Dropping signal randomly and I have to restart the phone for the signal come back again. This started happening when I tried to send a 5 MB video over 3G. I have restarted it about 50 times today. Switched it to 3G/2G only, seems OK so far. Hopefully it stays that way.

Possibly using different bands? Or just their 4g is not as reliable.

It's working fine now after I switched to 2G/3G only. Strange how it would just lose the signal though but come back for a short time after restart.

Has nothing to do with the fact your not using it on VF, most likely to do with the rooting. You could try flash the OTA file from SD card instead of the online update method although it may have the same results. Failing that you will need to factory reset and run online update again.

Cheer I ended up installing the stock rom again and then was able to update. Google just delivered a backup then of all my apps which was nice. Even had my google keep notes still in place!

My micro sim won't fit. Any suggestions?

This phone uses a nano sim. You're going to have to get it changed.

Also, I noticed, even if the phone is on silent, when taking pictures in WhatsApp, the shutter sound is present. I have it turned off on the main camera app and its silent when taking pictures through that, but not in WhatsApp. Anyone have any ideas on how to disable it, short of rooting the phone ?

Are you positive it's a nano sim? I have a nano sim, not a micro and it's too small for it!

Pretty certain, as I had to order a nano sim myself. Are you sure you're not putting it in where the SD card slot is? The sim slot is on the right, just above the volume button.

Can I just cut the micro sim to size?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭slowlydownwards

I chanced it and it worked. Your mileage may vary, as you need to cut a part of the metal chip on the SIM card to get it down to the right size. That was 2 months ago, SIM still working fine. Various guides on the interwebs/YT too. You'll also need decent enough scissors too.

I had a few around the house from various other devices and none worked.

Could i just go into a meteor/vodafone shop and would they cut my sim to nano for free?

This is why im sort of like convinced now that there are variations of VFSU6's out there on the market because there is another issue where some people have rooted their SU6 with no problems whatsoever but with some SU6 owners (including me) where it stayed rooted until the phone rebooted and then lost root. I have sorted it now and pushed TWRP to the phone and updated supersu but some people have managed to root their SU6 permanently only with using wondershare mobilego. Thats why I think there are different version SU6's - but logically *983* stands for *ZTE* and then 673636# meaning OPENEM (open Engineering Mode) - but no, none of those codes work on mu VFSU6 phone

*983*0# always worked by default on the two SU6's I own, both Irish and UK versions. When I enter *983*673636# into dialer a brief popup says Emode is enabled.

After dialing *983*2567336# (*ZTE*CLOSEEM#)it says Emode is disabled and i note if I now enter *983*0# nothing happens. Worth perhaps toggling "closeEm" first followed by "openEm" and then *983*0# to see if that triggers the Engineering Menu.

On that Menu another interesting option is called "Radio Info Test". Here you can "Set your preferred network type" to options not available under Mobile network settings. Usefull to lock 4g LTE Only as your network mode rather than accept the 4G/3G/2G auto. You can dial *983*3640# for direct access or if all else fails use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.snclabs.radioswitcher&hl=en to call up the same Radio Info.

There is more ZTE secret codes here to try out on your SU6 - http://cellphonetipsandtrickss.blogspot.ie/2013/10/the-super-secret-codes-fr-zte.html

Just ask either of them for a nano SIM and they'll give you one there and then. Vodafone will transfer any SIM numbers you may have over too. I assume Meteor will do the same but I have no experience with them.

They cut mine down for me

I wouldn't ask in a Vodafone shop to cut down a meteor sim! They would do it no problem in a meteor shop though. They'll either cut it or transfer your number over to a new nano sim.

Not a good idea to do that. All networks switch down to 3g/2g for calls afaik with 4g only being used for data.
