I'm so jealous of the posters on this thread for the past couple of months since I lost the UPC signal out here in culchie land. All the best stuff is on BBC's and Sky Arts. I have to make do with Saorview -and Pat Shortt doesn't really fill the vacuum. I definitely have to get myself a satellite dish ASAP.

I don't have UPC or any TV provider at all, I watch all the BBC's on iplayer.

I remember talking to a silly girl in a pub one night.

I told her I loved The Beatles, she said she loved The Monkees.

I told her they didn't write their own songs. SHe got all pissed off, and thought I was a prick.

Jeff Lynne - pop songwriting genius

Brilliant to seem him having a bit of a renaissance. Still sounds great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,722 ✭✭✭✭Welsh Megaman

So many classic songs - and seems genuinely down-to-earth too...no superstar ego, considering who he has worked with.

    Don't Bring Me Down...Bruuuuuce?

    Google says this ...
A common mondegreen in the song is the perception that, following the title line, Lynne shouts "Bruce!". According to the liner notes of the ELO compilation Flashback, he is saying a made-up lyric, "Grroosss," which some have suggested sounds like the southern German expression "Grüß Gott."

After the song's release, so many people had misinterpreted the word as "Bruce" that Lynne actually began to sing the word as "Bruce" for fun at live shows.[5]

    Mr. Blue Sky :)

I never forgive radio dj's who don't play the full version of 'Mr. Blue Sky', regardless of time constraints.

I never forgive radio dj's who don't play the full version of 'Mr. Blue Sky', regardless of time constraints.

I think every Radio Breakfast Show should begin with Mr Bue Sky in full, every morning.

Including the serious ones like Morning Ireland and Today.

Once you've heard Mr Blue Sky you know things aren't as bad as they might seem to be.

Thanks Skid but, sigh, repeat after repeat.

On the downside another Friday without anything new on BBC4.
On the upside another Friday with Tom Waits on Youtube.

Queen: From Rags to Rhapsody was enjoyable, all the '77 interviews were new to me that's for sure. Taped the concert for a quiet moment. Its easy to forget how when Queen did make the break through just how quickly they became mega - getting a live gig on BBC tv and radio on Christmas eve while Bo-Ra is still at No 1 in the charts when two years earlier they'd have been lucky to get arrested.
