Sub 4% means that percentage of his career wins came by submission.

Sub average percentage means the average number of submission attempts in a fight with the average being out to 15 minutes.(as oppose to 25 mins for title fights)
    Ah I see cheers.

I think one of the tricks of the trade is a warm bath full of epsom salts. Just draws all the moisture from the skin.

When I boxed as a kid I remember running down to the National stadium with a black sack on to make me sweat. Ended up way under the weight limit of 44kg. The clubs scales where wrong and I didn't have to lose anything after all ðŸ˜႒ðŸ˜႒

lol im sure plenty would like the idea but with the effect it has on your body you wouldn't want to as its actually dangerous at such a quick rate.
I posted this on another thread but for the last 5 days before the weigh in most fighters would follow something along the lines of this.

Taking in very little carbs - 50 grams maybe a day. Eating small meals made up of mostly protein and fat and then limiting his water intake over the 5 days right down to nothing. Then hot baths and saunas to sweat out excess water. Diuretics sometimes are used at the end if theres a small bit of water weight still to get rid of.

His website bio basically he did Capoeira then decided he didn't like kicking people he just liked moving and couldn't find anyone who did the moving good so became the person that did the moving good. He learnt how to do a super awesome handstand and convinced people to pay him how to walk like a crocodile.

    Fair play to him.

And he can pull some fairly mad shapes in fairness I know I couldn't do that.

For most people for sure but I guess if McGregor thinks its going to help him then it can't do any harm as long as its not taking away from proper training. Movement is obviously important so maybe it has made a difference it would be great to hear what JK really thinks about it as more than anyone he is going to know what effect it has had but it seems unlikely we'll hear that.

I prob won't get to post here until tomorrow, so just wanted to say a few things before the fight. When I first seen Conor on tv, I hadn't ever heard of him before. It was his appearance on the Late Late show, & I thought he was brash, arrogant and full of himself. I watched the segment, & flicked on to something else...not really taking much notice of Conor, other than perhaps being guilty of pre judging him.

When the promotion for his next fight, after his appearance on the Late Late show began, I remembered I'd seen this chap, & said feck it, sure I'll give it a watch (I fell into F1 the same way, having seen Lewis Hamilton on Top Gear many moons ago). I watched the fight, and while admittedly it was difficult to watch for me (I'd no knowledge of MMA/UFC, & found the concept a bit brutal tbh), it piqued my interest. I began reading up about Conor, & watching videos of him.

My prejudice and ignorance began to fade, and I began to want to watch Conor fighting more & more. Each fight I watched, I got taken in more and more. I began to feel Conor, rather than being full of himself, just believed in himself in a way that was so real, so pure, that it made him something special. This wasn't just confidence, it was complete and total belief he had in himself. He had that belief when he was nobody, when he had nothing, and it has taken him a long way.

When he defeated Mendes, and held the tricolour up and spoke with such pride into the mic, about how he had done this for us, for the Irish people, I got goosebumps. Today, I think Conor is not just an incredible athlete, but by all accounts is a gifted and unique sports star. I think we're lucky to be able to call him ours, and while he takes thrash talk to an all new level, I don't for a second think he underestimates opponents, or prepares any less, despite that unbreakable confidence he has.

Tonight, he faces his toughest test without question. Jose Aldo is a different type of beast, and if anyone was ever going to ask questions of Conor, it was going to be Aldo. I think Aldo comes across very well in the media, a family man, a devoted champion, and without question an incredibly skilled fighter. Whatever happens, to me, Conor has already won. Win or lose tonight, Conor has succeeded in putting Ireland on the globe regarding MMA/UFC. He has always come through for his growing army of fans, and most importantly, he got there with hard work, in the face of adversary, with nothing but sheer self belief in himself (all the while surrounded by a close knit team of trusted friends). How can you not respect that, how can anyone not admire what he has done.

    Good luck Conor, fight well.

Well done for being open minded enough to research the topic before you form an opinion, unlike a lot of people, and on making a fantastic, well though-out post.

So all is he is strength and fitness coach is essentially what you're saying. This 'movement' lark, I'm not convinced by it being any way effectively applicable in a fight.

His movement coach trains him how to bend his body in ways that most people wouldn't be able to do. In McGregors last fight vs.Mendes he got taken down several times. In the final takedown Mendes attempted a guillotine around Conor's neck. Somehow McGregor defended it then got up and knocked Mendes out. But it was such a close run thing, if Mendes had of executed that guillotine Conor would have been beaten. I've watched the replay of that guillotine countless times and what got him out of it was the way he wriggled his body and used his flexibility to get out of the hold. It happens so quick that if you blink you'll miss it but that move was the difference between McGregor winning and losing the fight imo.

So while training in movement and flexibility might not be immediately apparent it almost certainly meant that Conor didn't lose to Mendes. Getting up off the floor and hitting him with the left hook meant that he won it. He needed both his ground skills and stand up skills to win that match, without both together he probably would have lost.

So movement and flexibility are very, very important in this game. We should see more of this tonight if Aldo goes for takedowns, Conor will have to be top of his game to defend them.
