I'm finally done with going out on the piss.

I spent most of this year training hard for an event, and as a result I hadn't "gone drinking" in ages.

Last Saturday I went to a funeral and had four pints and was pretty drunk, but then a couple of friends came back and we sat up drinking and falling til 3 or 4 in the morning. I was dying all day the following day. I barely got out of bed. Complete waste of a day. I wasn't knocking shots out of it or anything like that, just beer over an extended period.

Last night I went out for a few after work, ended up in a nightclub I haven't been in in about 10 years. Kip. Now I'm wrecked again today, it's the afternoon and the dog hasn't been walked yet, I haven't eaten anything, and I look like sh*t.

So I'm done. I love wine and Guinness and beer so I'll still have them when I want to but I won't be getting pissed any time soon. I have just as much craic when I don't drink, I save a fortune, I can drive myself home and I'm up by 8am for a run or whatever feeling great.

I know we all say "I'm never drinking again" when in the middle of a bad hangover, but have you ever made a decision not to get drunk again? Do you think the hangovers are worth it for the nights out you've had? Or are you one of those absolute bastards who can still wake up at 8 and go for a run after you've been on the razz the night before?!!

If anyone wants to bring me a bowl of stew and a pint of milk I'll PM you my address :D

But if you were down the back of the pub with someone's tongue in your mouth and hand clawing at your crotch you'd be locked in the same pub/club at opening time the next day hoping for an encore.

You sound quite upset. Have you not had a tongue in your mouth or anyone's hand on your crotch lately?

You don't need to hide down the back of pubs for that to happen dude.

I'm on my way to work (not driving obviously)

There were almost tears when my alarm went off but I'm ok now.

Jesus I was drunk. We had wine with dinner, but then we had a cocktail that came in a fish bowl. Why? Why would anyone drink a communal cocktail wots blue?

I love drinking beer & smoking weed, I'm a veteran, been doing it a long time...

I don't get hangovers, I brew my own beer au naturale & I don't over indulge, most of the time :o

I'm true to my word when I say...if it ever starts affecting my everyday functioning, I'd knock it on the head (that or my first cardiac :pac:)

A little taste often...you only got one life, indulge I say & ride the whirlwind...we all gonna die, how healthy you wanna be when you pass this mortal coil? ;)

Sorry my comment above was for you!

Your leaving yourself open for a potential future of worry, slow down a little man. Peace

I haven't had a pint since the night of the All Ireland Final. Just fancied a break from hangovers.

It was our Christmas party last Friday and there was wine and cocktails flowing from about 16.30 onwards. This was the first big session I've attended since stopping drinking. And it was pretty boring - just loads of noise and no interesting talk. I left aroung 21.30 and was home by 22.00. Pointless anecdote there, sorry.

For one reason or the other, I don't get hangovers. Even if I did, it's not enough of a deterrent for me to get pissed I don't think. Being drunk is fantastic. Nothing beats it. Nothing. I've been known to cry for extended periods of time if I drink vodka, but I've learnt these lessons - eventually. If I stick to cider and the odd Jagerbomb, I'd be fine.

That being said, I do envy people who can still have a laugh whilst being stone-cold sober. It must be very liberating knowing that you're having just as much craic for significantly less money.

there is a common theme running through this thread and that is mixing drinks

stick to one type of drink for the night and you wont wake up with the damaged brains

I've been following this plan for the last couple of years Whoops and it's great. Like you say I started to do the numbers in my head and thought the loss of a Saturday / Sunday to a hangover wasn't worth the perceived benefit of getting muckfaced the night before. I still do all the same things, but limit myself to two or three when I do drink and just nurse them. The wallet is heavier and I feel much better generally. Weekends seem about twice as long too.

I'm good man, appreciate the sentiment ;)

    But...
    ...& my own worst enemy...

I only got one life, nearly lost it a couple of times, my expiry date defaulted a while back, so I'm gonna do what I do because...it's what I do & I'm content :D

Peace back at ya ;)
