I already got my scan date, for the 23rd December! Worst date they could have given me! I work in retails (run a shop), so not a hope I can get away that day with how crazy busy we will be! They even said it would take up to 3 hours! Bloody hell for what!?

So annoyed I have to ring and re-schedule. Both my husband & I work together, so we both can't be gone for that one on the day before Christmas eve! I was surprised I got an appointment so quick, I thought I'd be waiting weeks!

Hi Ciarrai - give your local scan room a call. I will be 12 weeks on 28th. I explained that I would love to have a scan pre-New Years (so we could tell people over the New Year celebrations). She was lovely about it, and has me scheduled in for 30th.

I think they say allow 2 hours in Galway - I expect much of that will be waiting around.

Its ok, I rang the hospital and they were able to change the appointment for the start of Jan. It will be easier for us with work and have all the hysteria of Christmas die down! Then I've the scan to look forward to :)

I can still go for a private scan with the fertility clinic I am with, its just I have to pay for it, but we might do it anyway as a Christmas pressie to us :)
My family all know anyway, and a couple of close friends, mainly because they all knew we were doing fertility treatment. I won't be going out over Christmas anyway, always too busy with work to have any fun! The only person in my family who doesn't know is my nephew, so we'll tell him at Christmas :)

I'm 9 weeks since yesterday, the weeks are flying! I feel like I've the beginnings of a little bump, nothing major, but its more solid than before, and I'm quite petite, so everyone is telling me I will probably show soon! It'll be mad having a bump, I've always dreamt about it and what it would be like! :)

I got a scan on entering and leaving the hospital. The difference that one or 2 weeks makes is amazing! He and little arms and legs! I cried! I think this is going to be a very crying orientated pregnancy. I can feel myself welling up just looking at my little boy and how fast he's grown! Also nearly cried watching a clip of Kelly cuocao and some puppies ffs!

I'm back to my gynae on the 10th for my 10 week scan/appointment. I get a little notebook called a mutterpass, that all expectant mothers have to carry with them at all times her in Germany.
Means I'll be exactly 12 weeks on xmas eve!
Just stepped on the scales and I've lost a total of one stone! I think this baby is eating me from the inside out lol! Anti vomiting tablets are working well and I'm eating 4 small meals a day, so I don't think the weight will be comign off for long!

I can't wait to see the next scan, it will look a lot different to the little blob on our 7 week scan anyway!

I started crying to a Christmas ad on tv for a supermarket the other night! Its ridiculous! I was in a shop the other day and almost started crying to a Christmas song. Weirdo! haha!

Well I'm nearly afraid to write in case I hex it but the sickness went last night and is still gone this morning. Is it normal for it to go so early. I'm 9 weeks today. Boobs still sore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,919 ✭✭✭dori_dormer

I weirdly got a day off sickness the other week! Was strange. There's no hard and fast rules to it as docs have no idea what causes it. They think is hcg, which peaks around week 9 but they don't know for sure! Take advantage of the break i say!

On as side note my boobs have doubled in size. ...

I was 9 weeks on Tuesday and the nausea has eased big time, saying that though I actually got sick for the first time on Wednesday. My appetite has increased a lot but only want bland foods.
I read on another website about original Hula Hoops helping to ease the nausea and I found they really worked - makes a nice change from crackers too!
Scan is next Wednesday so can't wait for that, will tell his folks that evening and probably tell work as well. We have our staff party on Friday night and cos there's only 9 nine of us it will be impossible to hide the fact I'm not drinking plus my belly has got so big they will have worked it out anyway.
My family are up the following weekend so will tell them then as would prefer to say it to their face as opposed to over the phone.

now I have a craving for Hola Hoops!! ;)

I actually made my hubby drive me to McDonalds after work Wed night as I was dying for a milkshake! I never have them usually, and rarely eat McDonalds, but I was really craving a chocolate milkshake! I ended up getting chips too! So nice :)

    TAA DAAA!! I have pooped...

I had to have an extra espresso to 'move things along'. You don't know how happy this makes me feel. Himself is currently on a long haul flight, so I can't share it with him.

My GP will do a scan, if you're in the Dublin area? Just the cost of a GP visit (€48) you'd prob need to book in a week in advance though?

I had mc Donald's last night too! It's never as nice as I imagine it will be tho :(. Also had a choc shake but I don't think my body likes dairy at the mo!

Glad your Maccy D's was better!

Bit far for me, I'm in Tralee! I am getting one done on the 6th Jan so I'll manage to wait until then. I had an early one at almost 7 weeks, which was great :)

My husband's face when I said please bring me up to McD's! He just looked at me in disbelief and a sense of 'oh no, here we go'...and its only week 9! ;)

Salt and vinegar hula hoops saved my life many times in the first two trimesters, I never ate salt and vinegar til then.

I'm not one for unnecessarily avoiding foods in pregnancy but don't have the McD's milkshake too often, soft serve icecream isn't recommended in pregnancy due to the listeria risk in those machines. Stick to tubs from the freezer section most of the time if you can :) I found a few scoops of Ben & Jerry's perfect for heartburn later on :D

oh never knew that! does that mean any ice-cream from machines, such as a 99 are a no no too? :(

I need to get a tub of ice-cream, forgot to buy some when in supermarket this eve!

In fact, I could just make my own milk-shakes...Like I used to when I was a young one! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,919 ✭✭✭dori_dormer

Yeah its cos it's sitting around for ages and not cleaned regularly (well you have no idea when it was last cleaned) damn listeria!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 544 ✭✭✭Cerocco

Can someone explaine listeria to me. Is it that I can get food poisoning and possibly miscarry due to the sickness or does listeria itself harm the fetus?

This is pretty straight forward explanation. It's pretty much the only thing I take seriously food wise when pregnant

Yep same here. I ate and drank many things in small amounts but I did avoid things with a listeria risk completely.

The shakes in Eddie Rockets are made with regular ice cream, if you want to avoid the soft serve stuff. But saying that, if you were to get a whippy ice cream, McD's would probably be the safest!

Dammit there is no Eddie rockets in Germany! I had a nap today, as we attempted some xmas shopping this morning, and I dreamt of nandos. No nandos here either. Also they don't have meatball marina in the subways! Like what's the point in having subway at all here!?
My mum rang earlier and we spent an hour talking about xmas food....
I'm going to get so fat over xmas......

there is only one Eddie Rockets in Kerry, its in Killarney, 25 mins away from me! But the weather is too bad at the moment to be driving all that way to get a milk shake! lol

I bought a block of HB vanilla ice-cream earlier & I have chocolate sauce in the cupboard, so I am going to attempt making a milk-shake myself! Its been years since I've done it!

I'm so glad I actually only have to wait 2 weeks to indulge in my fave foods. If this was sept or somethign the rage would be taking over. It's weird that this is the first country we've ever lived in that doesn't really have any great snack food.
In the US I loved a special pizza crust in dominos, they don't do it anywhere else I've seen, can't even remember the name now sadly. And they have pretzel m&ms. Israel had falafel and chocolate bamba. Germany sucks :(

My mam lives in South dublin, and mil right next to blanchardstown shopping centre. So basically all the bad food I need is nearly within walking distance. Can't wait for a 3 in 1 or spice bag from the Chinese! Better get those into me before the heartburn starts!!

I only got it mildly the last time thankfully, but still hard to sleep with it! Who knows it could be 10 times worse this pregnancy like the morning sickness lol? Would be just my luck!

does heartburn come with the territory, or do some women not get it?

Some don't at all. I was able to fend it off until very late with a Rennie or two, it only got really bad the last 3 weeks (33-36). Mine was heavily influenced by pre eclampsia, I ceremoniously dumped all Gaviscon and Rennies as soon as I got back to my ward after he was born :D

Ugh my 22 mth old has a virus. Lots of puking and disgusting diahorrea :( the smell is horrendous. My nose is extra sensitive, and it's making me puke! Even with the tablets im on. Ugh. Feel terrible today, poor little man must be miserable too. When he comes for cuddles I get a puke whiff off him and need to run to the loo! Feel so sorry for him. Terrible mammy!

Also ridiculously emotional. Just cried to fairytale of New York, and then to somewhere only we know. I hope no one knocks on the door as my eyes are all puffy!

On the upside, 2 days til my next scan!

awh the poor thing :( I dread that sort of stuff, I can't bear the sight of someone being sick, or the smell. lol

feel like I've the beginnings of a bump today! Its getting noticable now and I'm only 10 weeks tomorrow! Anyone else noticing theirs? My jeans still fit though, for now! :)

Definitely feeling rounder in the belly, especially later in the day.
I've been feeling fat for a few weeks though. Clothes are a good bit tighter on me, but everything still fits, just not as nicely. I'm dying to just be able to tell people and have a proper bump, not just look like I'm piling on the pre-Christmas pounds!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,919 ✭✭✭dori_dormer

Don't think I have a bump yet, lost a stone so can't tell by clothes. Everything's a little looser lol!

I've been washing puke all day. My boy puked all over his dad this morning. I might die if he pukes on me!

Man I'm so tired! Why is my home so messy. I'd love if it was christmas tomorrow, but I haven't bought half my presents!

How's everyone else doing shopping wise? I'm just glad my husband doesn't have a Christmas party that I have to go to this year

My heart and head isn't in it either. I just want it to be Christmas Day, see the look on my boys face Christmas morning, then have food handed to me all day! If I could get away with putting money in cards for my sisters I would!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 544 ✭✭✭Cerocco

Like you Dori I have lost a stone with the sickness so clothes are actually looser. I'm a big girl though so the weight loss is welcome. I don't wreckin I'll show till about 5 months. I posted too early saying the sickness was gone, it came back with a vengeance on Sunday, full on puking and I've been feeling so sick. I'm on the road all day so toilets are few and far between which just makes each day a real struggle

On the plus side I'm quite organised for xmas and only have a couple of gifts to get, thank God!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,919 ✭✭✭dori_dormer

Oh god I can not imagine how awful it would be to be sick on the road! Me and my trusty bowl barely leave the couch lol! I'm wondering if I'll show earlier this time as I'm on number 2. I remmeber being about 5 months last time and at the time being much skinnier than now ( had done a fab diet and lost a stone, then mornign sickness lost another, think I was around 10 stone) and everyone saying I looked fab (never felt better either!) and no sign of a bump unless I ate. I remember my cousins wife announcing one christmas she was expecting number 2, and she wasn't yet 12 weeks but it was soooo obvious!

So really it's a wait and see game! I retained a lot of water in the first trimester also that sort of looked like a bump but disappeared after 3 months!

I'm quite petite, so maybe that's why its a bit more obvious, not sure, unless like you said its water retention! There is a crap selection of maternity jeans here in Tralee, so I'll be venturing to Cork at least to find a few bits. Can't understand why shops don't make more effort, women are pregnant all the time, so its not like they won't need maternity wear!

I want to get some Topshop ones, but I would prefer to try them on first to make sure they are ok. I might order them online, I can return if they don't fit.

I don't really know what else to get at the moment, I don't really need much. I might wait until the sales after Christmas!

When does everyone plan on telling their work? Is there a legal time they need to be informed by or is it at the pregnant woman's discretion? My situation is I'm only in my job for 7 months and I'm contracted to the company until May when they plan to put me on their head count. I'm a bit worried that they may not take me over if they know I'll be heading off on Matty leave for 6 months in July! I'm quite worried about the whole thing

Ciaarrai I'd advise gettign over the bump jeans! Under the bump I found very uncomfortable, kept falling down. Even though the extra fabric wasn't really needed in the beginning, it saved me having to buy more jeans when my bump got big.

Cerocco, have a look at your contact or talk to hr? I don't think you could hide it til may! Do you have anything in writing that they plan on taking you permanent? Some places don't do maternity leave u less you've been permanent for a certain amount of time

Yeah, defo over the bump, the under the bump jeans aren't worth a curse. I was constantly pulling them up. I found H&M jeans great, and I think the pair I got was about €20? Avoid those 'belly belts' too, they're not great. A good hair bobbin, or elastic was better at making my regular jeans go that little bit further. Also for belly/bump bands, I thought the Penneys ones were the best. No seams or tags, which were on the Mothercare ones & they really irritated my skin.

I thought the over the bump ones looked far too big, and would fall down more than the ones with the stretch to the sides. I was thinking it would be more further into the pregnancy I'd need the over the bump ones. I won't get anything in Tralee, its beyond crap for maternity wear! I'll have to either order online (which I hate doing for jeans as I need to try on!) or go to Cork or Dublin & get decent stuff. I can't understand why there's so little available. Penney's seem to have stopped doing any maternity stuff now in Tralee. I had seen stuff last year, but now nothing there. Very annoying!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,832 ✭✭✭spottybananas

Seconding the H&M maternity jeans, I had a tiny bump but needed maternity jeans from 4 months on. The under bump ones pressed directly on baby and were so uncomfortable, I lived in the over bump ones. They're nice and warm winter and not bulky. I personally didn't want to buy two sets of clothes for early and latte pregnancy so just stuck with the H&M over bump ones. Long Penneys or Vero Moda vest tops extended the life of almost all non pregnancy tops.

I got a few bits in Next in Tralee and you've the big Mothercare, they have a relatively small but good selection, especially in the sales when they do good offers.

I used my regular jeans with an elastic & belly band until it was no longer feasible, and then went onto the H&M jeans. The material is quite stretchy, and they're very comfy. Defo weren't too loose.

Next isn't too bad, but Mothercare is the worst I've ever seen! They have the most unflattering ugly jeans I've ever seen! Not a hope I'll be going near them! lol I need to have another look in Next and see how they fit on me.
