    Got down very low!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,148 ✭✭✭flanzer

Did anyone catch how low EI523 got down to in FR? With EIDW at 200 asl, and the altitudes not QNH corrected, I wonder how far above ground level he was before he aborted?

Possible he could have touched it down maybe. We had a go around at LGW year before last the wheels touched down but they couldn't complete a stable landing with the crosswinds. Kinda fun.

Looks like a scheduled cargo 747 to Prestwick, with FR24 making a mistake with its destination.

Ah, thought it was diverted for some reason - Cheers

Runway dry atm so no real problems. Wind just picked up : 31kts gusting 45, yet that is within limits for many due to the runway being dry. Lets see when the rain arrives later.

Edit: EI210 due to the wind increase can no longer take off.

Janey! Did he overshoot it slightly?

Edit: Now he has to cross an active runway!

Has been holding for 24mins, now deciding to make a 2nd approach.

Will divert to Shannon if another go-around is made.

    Edit: Landed

Wind is 210 degrees so I can't see that happening. Also hearing nothing on ATC.

Was on EI523..... very very turbulent approach.
Pilot was on his game... felt like we were approx 50ft, just as approached got hit with a gust so he punched it back into the air.
Out over Dublin bay, around by Howth skerries and back in.

Second approach was equally as turbulent, no gust and manage to land safely.

I clapped like a Yank, Can't remember the Pilots name.... I'd like to buy him a beer.
Going to crack a few open after that.

saw the 523 GA from the road beside the threshold, it was past the road, but probably not as low as 50 Ft, and took a nasty gust at just the wrong moment to upset things.

What was more interesting was the Stobart that did a miss on 28 and then went for 16, I was on the road towards the Boot inn at the time, and it looked almost like he's picked up the false glide slope it was so nose down, and he went around very early in comparison.

Not a nice afternoon for flying, and probably a lot worse now it's dark and raining as well, There were several bizjets arrived while I was at the 16 threshold earlier, the offset for the wind factor was significant, and even the heavier aircraft were having to keep a lot more offset than normal.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

EI3381 abandoning approach and is going to hold following an increase in winds. If I was a passenger I'd be thankful, those Stobarts look rocky in moderate winds :P
