I didn't see it all but I do think yer man McElvaney was taking the piss with the reporters, he seemed to know it was a set up, thought he would play it smart and it backfired badly making him look a fool..

He was better off if he just got up and walked out the door

We still get a serious amount of "representation" by councilors and TD's on behalf of their constituents.. Embarrassing stuff... I've had the old "do you know who I am" line from one gombeen councilor on the phone, I actually couldn't believe he said it out loud..

Reading the current teagasc magazine here at breakfast and fair play to the lad who went from 50 cows in 2014 to 120 this year, having spent savings on buying the extra cows and borrowing a shed load of money for new housing

However, the last line in the article I find Ironic, when he says 'if it doesn't pay why do it?'

How long will he need to be farming to get the probably well north of 100k he apparently spent of his own money (having gone back to work to earn it,he looks at most about 30 so must be a heart surgeon to have gathered that so quick) to buy the 70 in calf heifers, not to mention maybe a total of up to 200k on the new housing, half of which is bank borrowings

The opportunity cost at even 0.5% interest lost on the hundred k plus and say 6% that has to be paid on the other 100k

Not a decision I'd like to have taken with current milk prices
I'd have changed tack and sold 40 of the cows this year, postponing the building and cancelling the rest of the borrowing

Have to wish them the best of luck though and to each their own etc

Sixteen million euro turn over on his Waste business, and he's scrabbling around looking for 10k off a foreign firm.
I got the creepy feeling, watching the film, that more than money might be expected off the girl representing the company.

What was your reply to that ?:D
I've met a few councillors down through the years and you would know the twots a mile off usually. Some of them are alright though and the sad thing is that the electorate will probably vote more chancers in than the straight shooters next time round

"I know exactly who you are, what difference should that make?"

Didn't go down well, went rambling on about being an elected representative bla, bla, bla.

We need a good hard frost! Way too mild. Half the country is going around coughing and spluttering and the other half will be next week!
