Winds gusting 45 knots. Metroliner going to have a go.

And he is landed. Makes you wonder about Ryanair cancelling their flights.

Yup. Im out in sutton and have a good view of the flight path. Saw it breaking the clouds. It was all over the shop. He's safely down. Good job! However the question was asked during the descent "have any aircraft landed?". There were 2 before him, but they were airbuses.

FR666 heading directly from SNN to BIR. DUB pick must be cancelled.
The footie fans on the return home leg to DUB maybe a little bit quiter than usual when they hit Desmomd :D

    It had routed BHX-SNN earlier.

Ryanair 885 that is just over Cardiff now, took off from Shannon then done a 360 and then on its way again.

FR293 been very hestitant about landing in DUB

Seems to be short on hours and concerned about not been able to get out of DUB.

Now asking to use 16 to depart.

Today is an example why I try not to fly with ryanair.

At least other operators are giving it a go, ryanair aren't even trying.

Each airline has their limits. If your unhappy with safety measures I'd recommend you don't get involved with aviation.

so you're saying you would avoid ryanair simply because they don't put their pax through terror tossing around approaches that have a high chance of failure?

On the flight I had into Dub last night on Aer Lingus regional, I'd have gladly taken a cancellation rather than endure that again! I actually admire Ryanair in a way for cancellations.

Yes, that's exactly how we felt too yesterday night! I was hoping they would divert to Shannon or Belfast rather than endure that kind of landing!

That is a scurrilous remark and damning towards those at the pointy end. Ever think some airlines knowing that putting aircraft into airports on marginal limits would prefer not risking the next day's schedule?

Was destined for Cork but decided against it going to Wroclaw now.

Funny, I had the opposite thought 5 years ago, sitting in Manchester airport, heavy snow, all the aer lingus flights had been cancelled, all the ryanair flights were, severely delayed, but flying nonetheless.

FR293 that just landed at Dublin was the first Ryanair flight to land in what, 10/11 hours?

Ryanair or not - I'd be happy if any airline cancelled because of safety. This time last year I was on a Ferry out of France in awful weather when the captain said he wasn't going to risk the voyage and there would be a long delay (6 hours) I could have kissed him!

These professionals know to put the safety of their passengers and crew first - It's a pain to be delayed but I'd rather that any day than a rough take off or approach.

Edit to add: Ferry doesn't equal airline but thet still use a pilot ;)

Certainly looks that way, there will be so clear out of FR's tomorrow morning.

It's not just safety, though. There are circumstances when it is safe to operate* but it just doesn't make sense for the airline to do so given the disruption it will cause to their operations.

No EU261 pay-out for weather disruption**, so why wouldn't they cancel flights and ride it out?

    * I'm not second-guessing whether it was safe or otherwise in Dublin this weekend.

Made a very quick decision. Sounded ready for it.

edit: Only 69 Pax to worry about. Over 100 no shows.

They do have to pay for hotels, meals and communications for people stuck in Dublin, so not the cheapest thing to do either.

There was a flight to MAN this morning scheduled for 06:45. Couldn't take off all morning and at around 11am it returned to stand.

On approach again. Going to SNN if he misses this approach.

    Edit: Down ok.

    EI783 landed.

Shannon has had 9 diversions so far today from my count.

    2 Stobarts destined for Cork.
    1 Ryanair destined for Cork
    4 Ryanairs destined for Dublin
2 Aer Lingus' destined for Dublin

That was a different example, was posted on this thread. DAA screwed that up.

Flight pushed back but couldn't then take off, DAA in the meantime had put another plane into that gate so there was nowhere for this plane to go. They just left them there for hours. Bit of a shamble.
